This place opens till 11pm late into the night and offers a decent variety of home-cooked dishes. I ordered a portion of minced pork, stewed cabbage, steamed pomfret and braised intestines to go along with a bowl of porridge. The fish is fresh and meaty. Intestines were well-cleaned and cooked, retaining a chewy and springy texture. The dishes are nothing magnificent but comforting, simple, affordable and reasonably priced. This is probably why there is always a queue for some late-night Teochew porridge 》$22
($6.80) I expected to be so hard and tough texture for bagel but it's quite soft and chewy texture tbh. But it's quite overall nice tbh. I hope that I can try breakfast bagel chicken ham version next time.
Chinese New Year has always been the season that some would be looking forward to to get their yearly cravings for McDonald’s Prosperity Burgers checked; we are folks that aren’t that drawn towards the Prosperity Burger all these while — have never been quite a fan of black pepper-based items so our attention usually gets drawn towards the other items. Together with the comeback of the Prosperity Burger for the upcoming Chinese New Year festivities, McDonald’s have also released their dessert offering — the Pineapple Pie, with all of the items featuring a Hello Kitty-themed packaging to go along.
Given how the Pineapple Pie is a fruit-based flavour without that doesn’t come with an infusion of cream cheese like some of its past creations over the span of 2023, the Pineapple Pie shares quite a bit of likeness with its more well-known sibling; the classic Apple Pie that we have come to love. The hand pie features that said crispy, deep-fried pastry that comes with the Apple Pie; don’t think this needs much of an introduction here, while the pie is filled with pineapple jam that is of a similar consistency as that of the filling in the Apple Pie — all that with some chunks of pineapple to chew on. Truth to be told, there isn’t that much of a stark difference between the two, though we thought that the Pineapple Pie might appeal to those whom prefer zingier notes — the Pineapple Pie does come with a sourish tang that also makes it less sweet compared to the Apple Pie. Overall, something which we thought was a little bit on the safer side as compared to other dessert pies that they have to offer especially when taking reference of the item from their Apple Pie; worth a try for those whom are curious, and also those whom must conquer the seasonal items of the menu at least once somehow.
($5.45) I decided to try it out since they released it during new jeans event previously. But the dark chocolate frappe was too milky and a bit of bitter taste for me.
My newfound favourite late dinner/supper place for Teochew porridge. The queue is usually long here and they serve a wide variety of side dishes. The steamed pomfret was one of their more popular dishes but it ran out before I reached the front of the queue. I ordered some french beans, cabbage, pork belly, braised intestines and tau kee. These dishes are priced reasonably with good portions. Simply comforting with a home-cooked taste 》$11
There are a lot of other stalls bearing their name, but the originator is the hawker at Toa Payoh, with other related stalls run by family or relatives.
.
Hand made and rustic, their fish balls are lightly bouncy with mild salty sweet savoury flavour, and the fish paste stuffed beancurd skin is spongy soft with grainy sweet salty notes.
.
The noodles are softly springy, generously portioned, picking up the savoury spicy sour salty flavours of the gravy nicely.
.
The her giao / fish dumpling is chewy and slippery, with pleasant meaty fishy sweet flavour.
.
The originator usually goes full flavoured, while the related stalls have more balance overall.

There's usually a significant queue. I quite enjoyed it, especially the soup, but maybe it's just I was hungry haha.

Went to Toa Payoh to try this prawn noodles after seeing recommendations on a famous foodie video. Burpple says it opens at 7.30pm but when I arrived at 7pm it was already serving customers. I was the only customer in the queue at that time.
Ordered the largest portion at $6 as I was feeling hungry. Portion was not huge. Maybe just enough for an adult lunch. Inside there were maybe 8 slivers of halved prawns and 10 pieces of thinly sliced pork, garnished with factory fried shallots. No lard. No fish cakes. No pork ribs. My heart was sinking fast.
As with all prawn noodles, I always order bee Hoon in soup. It is the acid test to see if the bee hoon tastes good after soaking up the broth. Speaking of the broth, it was very bland and so the bee hoon was tasteless as well.
Enough said. Definitely not coming back for seconds.
Fried sweet potato coated with salted egg mix! A must try!

Woohoo~~~Maccas' #twisterfries are back!!! 🥳♥️♥️♥️ Always a welcome change to the typical CNY steamboats, aren't these curly fries fun to eat? 😋 And how cute is the Chinese name 扭扭薯条 ??? 🥰💞
Known to be good prawn mee for supper. Is it good anytime? I'd say not really. I appreciate the mee pok, since I dislike yellow noodle, and an okay broth, but the prawns and pork were forgettable.
