Teochew Porridge 潮州粥
My newfound favourite late dinner/supper place for Teochew porridge. The queue is usually long here and they serve a wide variety of side dishes. The steamed pomfret was one of their more popular dishes but it ran out before I reached the front of the queue. I ordered some french beans, cabbage, pork belly, braised intestines and tau kee. These dishes are priced reasonably with good portions. Simply comforting with a home-cooked taste 》$11
This is the place to go if you are looking for reasonably priced Teochew porridge with a wide variety of dishes to select from. Taste-wise they are neither the best nor the worst. It’s just a decent and simple place to go for a no-frills Teochew porridge meal.
Dishes that I have tried are minced pork with fermented black beans, braised pork belly, braised pig skin, handmade fish cake and preserved vegetables. These dishes are relatively standard except for the pig skin which was not braised well enough and quite tough in texture 》$18.20
Teochew porridge shop that serves the usual comfort food at a reasonable price even past midnight till 4 am. They offer an extensive range of dishes that satisfy almost anyone and everyone. Porridge is served hot with average and simple yet comforting dishes 》$9.70
This stall serves very affordable, fresh and tasty old favourite Teochew dishes and they are well known for their steamed fish and handmade fish cake so it is a definitely must-order. The constant long queues are a good indication of their popularity but they are quite efficient and the wait is relatively short.
I loved their average-sized, fresh and tender steamed grouper. It was served hot and fresh out from the steamer, topped with salted vegetables and sliced ginger along with clear and subtly sweet broth 》$15
One of the popular places around Hougang for authentic and traditional Teochew porridge. We ordered simple dishes like minced pork, braised pig skin, braised tau pok, potato & luncheon meat in tomato sauce and spicy lala to pair with the comforting and plain porridge. Not the best Teochew porridge but they are one of the cheap and good ones around here 》$18.50
Ordered some braised duck, celery, lala and tau pok for our late night meal to go with porridge. We just couldn't resist their braised items like braised duck and tau pok as they are always rich in flavour and goes very well with porridge.
The braised duck was soft, tender and it is particularly good with their rich and fragrant braised sauce. I liked that the tau pok braised with a distinct herbal taste - simply tasty. We also love the fresh lala that comes with some spicy flavours to add some punch to our meal.
Price varies with the choices of dishes ordered. Our meal came up to $19.30 with three bowls of porridge.
Ran out of places to eat late at night and decided to give this a try. They are located under a HDB block selling very affordable and good Teochew porridge till wee hours. We ordered 2 bowls of porridge with minced pork patty, bitter gourd, lala and peanut to feed two bellies and we were surprised at how cheap our total bill ($6) was. They also provide condiments like tau cheo (salted fermented soybeans), chilli and braised sauce. Not the best tasting Teochew porridge but I will still come back for the affordable price paid for such quality.
Their asam fish, braised meat and minced pork were quite good. I would say to just skip the salted veg (kiam chye) and try other dishes.
Not the best Teochew porridge along Kovan but this could be a place for late night meal. We paid less than $20 for everything that’s on the table so it’s definitely value for money but it does not taste as good as it’s competitors along Kovan. It’s a choice between lesser crowd, value for money and average tasting food or crowded place with steep prices and quality food.

Late dinner/supper for a comforting bowl of teochew porridge with a myriad selection of ingredients to choose from. I loved their braised duck over here 👍 Price has been increasing over the years but it's still a great fix for teochew porridge ☺
Unlike the thick, broken grains we are used to in Cantonese congee, the seafood porridge was served in Teochew style, where the whole rice grain still intact and soaked in broth. The broth is delicious and the seafood are fresh. They are also very generous with the ingredients with large chunks of fish slices and squid 》$6

I'm in a relationship with food. Why can't we just declare our never ending love and vows towards some food item? I'm sure that would not result in divorces.
