Came by for a mid-afternoon pick-me-up and the place was pretty empty with only a handful of tables filled - perfect for a chill Saturday afternoon tea break! I got the Matcha Latte ($6) and the Tokyo Special Banana Cream Bun ($4.50). Matcha latte was alright, not the worst, but I was sorely disappointed by the banana cream bun. The tokyo banana flavour did not really shine through and not really worth its price tag - perhaps just as a novelty treat.

Dearborn warrants a second visit. THIS WEEK. Just for their seasonal 𝐋𝐄𝐌𝐎𝐍 𝐏𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐂𝐇𝐈𝐎💥💥 granola. Crunchy and freshly-baked with maple syrup to give a warm caramel flavour. It's not too sweet, but rather light and refreshing🍋, littered with whole pistachio nuts. I recommend pairing it with 𝐃𝐀𝐈𝐑𝐘-𝐅𝐑𝐄𝐄 𝐂𝐎𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐔𝐓 𝐕𝐀𝐍𝐈𝐋𝐋𝐀 𝐁𝐄𝐀𝐍 𝐘𝐎𝐆𝐔𝐑𝐓🥥 This bowl costs $9, but imo you are paying for quality and the novelty!

Seating is outdoors (fans are provided) and pet-friendly so you might see cute doggos🤩🥺

The cross section revealed a generous amount of black sesame filling. Our first impression was that the filling was thickly packed and finely ground, sporting a dark shade of onyx black. Maybe because we didn’t have it immediately, the filling wasn’t liquidy at all, and remained like a thick paste even after heating it up.

Rather a unique dish, I like the Hollandise sauce with the rosti

The egg is nicely cooked and the croissant is crisp

The sourdough was a little tough for my liking (maybe coz turned cold fast), altho the butter was prob the star. Extremely light in terms of texture, and had a savoury cheddar flavour -- reminds of some strong cheese chips 🤭. Definitely was tempted to get the butter on its own, which he does sell separately ($15)!

Note that they only have seats just outside the shop with fans (no air-con) if you're planning to eat there! Have also yet to try the other items on the menu but wouldn't mind having a bag of black ssm granola to myself! 🤭

Overall Rating: 7.5/10

No way I was gonna give their Black Sesame Granola a miss after seeing and hearing good reviews about them!

Black Sesame Granola w/ Delta Greek Yoghurt ($8)
Would recommend first eating the black sesame granola on its own without the yoghurt, so you get to savour the full flavours of the black sesame! After pairing with the Greek Yoghurt, which was pretty smooth and light, it kinda overpowers the black ssm a little. Still an enjoyable one imo!

The popular Nitamago Potato Salad Sando ($14) was carbs on carbs as it consisted of oozy ramen eggs paired with potato salad and truffle oil. It was somewhat unconventional as it was cold, creamy and refreshing. The Lemongrass Chicken Sando ($14) features thai marinated grilled chicken thigh, cabbage, tomato and yuzu and karashi mayo. It had a lighter taste than expected as the thai marinate on the tender chicken was subtle.

The Populus Scramble consisted of basic ingredients like turkey bacon, croissant, scrambled eggs with herbs (essentially spring onions and big red chilli).

Not a very good photographer (esp for food), but plating was well done, enough for me to take like a pro for once.

The textbook scrambled eggs was a win for me, the herbs gave it a slight Asian twist. But apart from that, nothing to shout about, no complexity nor depth in flavours. Croissant was very mediocre, and after 3 mouths it was all really one-dimensional. I couldn’t finish it. It just did not make the cut for such price point ($22 bef GST & svc charge).

Hesitant to come back, but if I do then I’d probably try something else. Also, there was not much viable options for my poor vegetarian friend. Her favourite mushrooms were already pre-mixed with garlic so no customisations.

Option to choose burger bun, brown rice patty or lettuce leaves. Love how healthy it is cos baked, it's nt fried or grilled. Brown rice patty wasn't what I expect but it's not bad, think there's tumeric added. Patty made from lots of various vegs, beans, peas, etc. Came with huge poriton of sweet potato fries which is not fried too👍🏻 & side salad, both with tangy, refreshing dressing. It's sth I would order again!

Good for low carb meal! The "cheese" sauce is made with cashew nut but rly has a cheesy taste, I think there's nutritional yeast added (can taste it). Rly like the sauce👍🏻 Generous portion of side salad with refreshing dressing!
