The cookie, slightly brittle crust style.

Either version of the egg tart you choose, both are equally good.

Leung sang has been around for a long time, around 40+ years, and recently opened another outlet at bugis junction.

The custard is the same for both types of egg Tarts. It's sweetness is not over powering and the texture is just right and it smells so good too.

The flaky puffy like crust style.

The amount of filling in this polo seems to be a little inconsistent hmm in other pictures I saw, the fillings looked a lot more generous. Half of my bun was filled pretty well with fillings while the other half was just bread 😅 for $1.20 it's still really worth it though, cuz the whole bun feels so heavy!

The polo is really crumbly and sweet, the cookie becomes crispy when heated in the oven. The bread is really dense and chewy and the roasted chicken fillings taste like char siew and it has a pretty "authentic" taste, not those cheap kinds. They go so well together!

This is definitely better than random neighbourhood bakery char siew polos and for only $1.20, really worth it. Hopefully there will be more fillings next time, so I'll definitely be back to try again!

Was really surprised at how generous the fillings in this bun were! Not sure if the custard is supposed to be flowy or not cuz I kept it in the fridge and heated it in the oven (the outside got a bit burnt but the custard was still cold when I ate it 🤔) but anyways the consistency of the custard is really thick and kinda solid, not those gooey kinds. It was really well filled!

The custard basically tastes like regular custard, nothing more to say HAHAH the polo cookie is sweet and crumbly and isn't overwhelmingly sweet together with the custard!

Probably wouldn't get this again but still really worth the price, and the fillings are so generous. Would recommend if you like this kind of custard!

This pastry tastes exactly like a mini lotus mooncake with salted egg, except that the crust is different. This crust is really buttery and crumbly, while the lotus paste is sweet. The salted egg is crumbly too, and it's pretty soft, unlike other salted egg pastries where the egg is kinda rubbery and chewy. Like it!

This is one of those foods that tastes kinda unhealthy tbh HAHAHA with the buttery-ness of the pastry and the dense fillings, I'd probably not eat this often.

I still prefer mooncake cuz I love the skin but this is a relatively more affordable version that is pretty good quality! If you love mooncakes and buttery pastries, do give it a try!

Found this really interesting cuz I've never seen a curry chicken polo before! The fillings in this were about 30% chicken, 70% potato.

The curry was on the saltier side, not that spicy imo. It's like having a curry bun but instead of regular bread, it's a crumbly polo bun. The bread is dense and chewy and overall a good bun!

Personally not that big of a fan of curry buns as compared to other buns so I wouldn't get this again, however it's really worth the price!

They have 2 kinds of tart bases: a Hong Kong style layered one vs a Western style biscuit one. I actually can't tell the difference between the two. The Hong Kong one would be better if it were more layered, flaky and airy. The Western one would be better with some salt crumbs rubbed in and more butter. Main redeeming factor is the smooth, bouncy egg custard. Overall, decent but not my favourite.

Price: $1.50 per piece

Someone bought this for me from the Tiong Bahru and when I first tried it, I went OOOH. Think flaky crispy crust filled with a smooth egg custard centre! 😍 I quickly googled Tiong Bahru egg tart and this super old school bakery popped up. It makes me so happy to know that such charming, old school bakeries like these still exist. While the egg tarts may not be as fragrant or as buttery as the ones at Tai Cheong or Honolulu, for $1.40, I have no complaints. I’ll definitely visit the store myself one day and eat these egg tart babies while they’re hot!

Hong Kong Egg Tart (~$1.50) was freshly baked and so... amazing... warm, wobbly, soft and custardy, damn it gave taicheong a run for its money 🍳🥧
.
Crust was flaky at the sides and more crumbly at the bottom, and they didn’t skimp on the egg custard at all! 🌿

Ig @goodfomood

Was in Tiong Bahru and googled for small bites - Leung Sang Hong Kong Pastries were the first few results for their traditional HK style egg tarts! Lightly sweetened egg custard in a buttery and flaky crust, it was a good snack to have! If you’re not a fan of the flaky crust, they also have the normal Western egg tart crust at the same price.

Which do you prefer?

For me, I prefer some crunchy element so Western style egg tart won my vote 💛

Who can resist those crispy & buttery crust filled with generous filling of custard which isn't too sweet 😍 One of a few places which offer 2 different styles of egg tarts.

Flaky pastry, creamy egg custard and cheaper than lots of other similar egg tarts - that’s why I love it. The egg custard just flows out into your mouth when you bite into it taken fresh. It tastes just as good even after a few hours. Really yummy. They even have the western buttery pastry type of egg tarts. There’s a daily offer of buy 10 and get 1 free which is value for money when I treat my colleagues. 👍

Among all the egg tart I had, this $1.40 egg tart really hit the sweet spot. Creamy egg custard, buttery crust and hint of the eggy flavor. If only they start selling HK milk tea, I would really feel like "home" .

Other choice like their char siew bun and chicken pie were pretty good too.

Was browsing through @burpple to find what to have in Tiong bahru area and we found a jem, Leung Sang Hong Kong Pastries.

They sell an assortment of pastries at $1.40 each and when you buy 10, you get 1 free! We bought their Leung Sang Egg Tart and Roasted Chicken Pastry.

Jae prefers the "Hong Kong" style Egg Tarts where the crusts is buttery, flaky and crumbly and this is the exact description to Leung Sang's Egg Tart! Their egg curd is smooth and creamy too.

The crust of their Roasted Chicken Pastry is similar to their Egg tart's but is wrapped around roasted chicken fillings (similar to char siew). They give generous servings of chicken that every bite consists of chunks of chicken!

Yesterday while ordering, Jae made a mistake in her order and the auntie had to change a  box (for storing of pastries) which she apologised for causing the inconvenience. And to Jae's apology, the auntie's replied that customers are always right and that sometimes when she makes mistake, people refuse to accept her apology. It was rather upsetting to hear that and we feel like people often forgot that people like auntie (or others who serves us food or gives us service) are people with feelings too. If everyone are more courteous to each other, everyone would be a happier person.

These may not be the hottest commodity in town, but hey no queue and very yummy too! Assorted traditional pastries at S$1.40 each from Tiong Bahru estate - buy 10 get 1 free. Their Char Siew Soh is not bad too, especially fresh out of the oven! 😋
💟 Tip: go for their Traditional Egg Tart, it's flaky and yummier than their Western Egg Tart - different tart base.

la kopi while waiting for the rain to stop. Fabulous egg tarts of 2 styles (layered skin and crusty skin) - smooth

What a hidden gem!!!!! I chanced upon it one fateful day & oh boy I was amazed!!! The polo bao crust is so so flaky and I love it how they are so generous with the crumbs and these crumbs just fall all over the place when bitten into it. The bao itself is chewy but isn’t too doughy and the generous overwhelming roasted chicken is marinated so well :”) what a great find!!! I didn’t manage to try the rest which was gobbled up when I bought them back home but will def be back!! Prob the best polo bao I have had in Singapore :”)

The site of the shop, or rather, the entire building is where my grandparents’ flat used to stand (swipe to last photo).

The flat was built by SIT (Singapore Improvement Trust), predecessor of HDB.

I remember running along the very long corridor and I could see CK Tangs from the front door. So much memories here...
