🍞Peanut Chocolate Toast
📍8 Degrees Taiwanese Bistro (@8degreesatsg)
📌 Multiple Outlets
💰 $6++ ($7++ with pearls)

I would never have initially ordered this on my own accord but my friend wanted to get it, so we did and I’m so glad that I gave this a chance because it is so bloody incredible.

While I had expected the bread to be just some normal thick bread slice with a layer of pb on top, I was surprised that the bread was actually FRENCH TOAST! That made it even more tasty and the peanut butter was amazing, it was super flowy and there were small bits of peanuts for added crunch. The chocolate element was a bit lacking imo, barely tasted it over the overpowering peanut butter.

We chose to add pearls on top for $1, and it became even more amazing… was pretty surprised at the large portion of pearls given. The pearls were super chewy and not tough at all, sooo good.

What an impressive gem! Albeit a bit pricey given how basic the concept of this toast is but worth it if you’re in the market for some pb french toast and you’re lazy to make it yourself.

I love my breads stuffed to the brim so this didn’t let me down. The coconut filling is crumbly and sweet, its really fragrant too and nicely filled. Really worth the price since its so generously stuffed!

🍫Cocoa Chocolate Lava Pau
📍Bei-ing Dim Sum Club (@chinesetapastheory)
📌East Coast Road
💰 $1.80

At Bei-Ing Dim Sum Club, you can choose to have your chocolate pau either deep fried or steamed. Being the fatty that I am, I went with the fried version but tbh it wasn’t that mindblowing, it just tasted a bit oilier and lacked that fried mantou taste and fluffiness.

The chocolate filling leaned towards the cheaper side, with a really runny and oily filling. Its a little on the smaller end too so the price is a bit steep, generally would stick to their other dimsum offerings.

🍞 Blueberry Lava

💰 6 for $12.50

Was a little worried about this baguette as I was scared that it would taste overly artificial. While the blueberry element definitely isnt 100% natural, it wasnt cloying or too hard to swallow, and generally I liked it for the price!

🍞Floss Net Bun with Quail Eggs
📍Oishii Bakery
📌 West Coast Plaza
💰 $2.20

My friend and I argued over whether this bun was appealing or vomit-inducing. Personally I find it super cute and creative, while she was a #hater said it was disgusting. Naturally I wanted to try it so I got it (thank you friend for the treat) 🥰

The bun is both topped with and filled with seaweed floss, which I loved. There was a nice amount of floss throughout the bread and the quail eggs added a nice savoury taste to the whole thing. Kinda reminded me of those giant floss breads with eggs.

Would def get it again!

🍞 Umami Mushroom Bun
📍MADU The Bakery (@madubakerysg)
📌 Race Course Road
💰 $6

When MADU The Bakery was still a home-based business, this was the one bun that turned me on like a light switch because ZAYUM SHE LOADED AF. This bun has cheese, mushrooms, and a shit load of bonito flakes. Trés magnifique wow.

True to its name, this bun is an umami bomb. Super savoury flavours from the mushrooms, salty bonito flakes, cheese and everything. The bread is soft and nicely toasted with a crisp exterior. I think theres an option to add on truffle oil, which would probably have made this extra extra bomb. Maybe if they added furikake to this, it would be the bombest.

Must try and I'll def get this again!

🍞 Ong Lai Huat
🧧 CNY 2023 Special
📍BreadTalk (@breadtalksg)
📌 Multiple Outlets
💰 $2.30

Another one of BreadTalk’s CNY offerings that caught my eye, this polo bun is filled with pineapple jam AND mochi 😱

The polo cookie is really fragrant and delicious while the pineapple jam is sweet but not too sweet. As always, the mochi is really stretchy and soft, retaining its chewy texture even when refrigerated overnight. The amount of fillings isnt super generous but the flavour makes up for it.

Pretty impressive and really unique!

🍞 Mala Pot
🧧 CNY 2022 Special
📍BreadTalk (@breadtalksg)
📌 Multiple Outlets
💰 $6.80

BreadTalk may face its fair share of criticism but one thing that cannot be disputed is their incredible creativity when it comes to new products. The Mala Pot is their biggest solo bread to date, made to replicate a mala hotpot with a whole slew of ingredients, including lotus root, mala chicken filling, broccoli, surumi crab leg, cheese, enoki mushrooms, beancurd and more. Of course, it also dons a hefty price tag to justify its size and amount of toppings.

This bread alone could probably serve as a whole meal. Its savoury and slightly spicy with all the elements coming together to create a unique experience of textures and flavours, and I honestly think this is BreadTalk’s most impressive creation to date.

I did find the mala chicken filling a little rubbery but it wasnt a big deal as the other savoury ingredients came together to elevate the rest of the bread.

Its pretty pricey but worth the try given the sheer creativity of it. Huge props to the R&D team for bringing this to fruition!

🍍Pineapple Osmanthus ($8.80)
A CNY version of their ever-popular Fleur de Framboise, this pastry is shaped into a flower with pineapple stew in the centre and topped with osmanthus pear confit. The pastry is buttery and the amount of pineapple stew is adequate in providing each bite with a tangy sweetness. Do be sure to cut this in a cake style in order to enjoy a good dispersion of pastry and pineapple!

🥐 Matcha Yuzu La LeBombz
📍La Levain (@lalevainsg)
📌 23 Hamilton Road
💰 $8
🤑 Promo code: 《BREADINOSAUR》for $5 off on @pickupp.sg

Matcha and yuzu, an unorthodox combo. I was expecting the fillings to be a mix of yuzu and matcha cream, but its just yuzu cream. The matcha is relegated to the ganache topping.

The matcha ganache is really gao and rich, I can taste the sweetness of the white chocolate base, really good. The yuzu isnt too sour and its tangy and refreshing. However I would have preferred a more even ratio of the yuzu cream to matcha cream, as there wasnt much matcha cream imo.

❗Use my promo code 《BREADINOSAUR》on @pickupp.sg to get $5 off with min spend of $14!
