They have 2 kinds of tart bases: a Hong Kong style layered one vs a Western style biscuit one. I actually can't tell the difference between the two. The Hong Kong one would be better if it were more layered, flaky and airy. The Western one would be better with some salt crumbs rubbed in and more butter. Main redeeming factor is the smooth, bouncy egg custard. Overall, decent but not my favourite.

Managed to snag the last cinnamon roll in the heat of the afternoon, perhaps to the dismay of the lady behind me. The bread was soft and fluffy, and the cinnamon sugar filling smooth and lightly sweet. Also loved the large sugar granules on top which provided a nice textural contrast against the fluffy bread swirls. A little pricey, but quite a treat.

Finally trying their bread after so long. Never knew of their existence because they're tucked away at a corner of Takashimaya basement.

Really soft - possibly the softest cinnamon roll I've ever had, with really light icing and juicy apple chunks. Yum!!

Chanced upon their newest outlet at Novena Square 2, next to Barcook Bakery. It just opened today (1 December). Got both the original flavour and pandan egg tart. I personally prefer the original. The pandan one has a very subtle pandan flavour which isn't overpowering. However, I felt that the plain egg custard was softer and smoother. The crust for both is biscuit-like rather than flaky layers, but still buttery and crumbly.

They have a new wholemeal cheese series which consists of 4 new flavours: kimchi cheese, oreo cheese, hazelnut cheese, and chicken pie cheese. I think they've had the Oreo one before so that's not as new. I tried the cheesy chicken pie & cheese hazelnut flavours this time.

Pictured here is the cheesy chicken pie! There wasn't as much chicken pie filling as I would have liked, although the little bits I managed to taste weren't bad (it even has peas as you can see). However, I think it was saved only by the melty cheese. For the price, I'd probably give this a miss and stick to their cheaper and more reliable flavours like cheese or hazelnut royale.

A chicken pie filled with chunks of chicken, sweet potato and diced onions.

Gotta say I was a little bit disappointed at first: there are no menus, and ordering/collecting is self-service. And the staff don't seem to be very attentive when people want to ask something cuz of the set-up.
But all things considered, it's a cosy place to chill if you want a hot cuppa and the food is all right - nothing amazing, but decent fare at decent prices.

They serve a portion of this free when you dine in, and the bread is served warm and toasty. I preferred the warm bread rolls to the hard bread sticks.

I love the one from Tiong Bahru Bakery, so decided to give this a try. It's slightly sweeter and more sugary, but in terms of how flaky the pastry is/taste, I would say it's a pretty good dupe. Not bad!
