curry sauce was really thick and rich! chicken was tender too but i didn’t really like the sambal as it was too sweet
The Hainanese Curry Chicken Drumstick Set ($9.80) is an uptake interpretation of the locale Hainanese curry rice. It has rice drenched in moderately thick, light and fragrant curry that was mildly spicy and subtly sweet. Completed with a curry chicken drumstick, chap chye with fish maw, steamed egg with green beans, tempeh and crackers, it was a good ol' plate of curry rice that packed a ton of flavour and simply indulgent. A highlight is its house-made chilli that gave it a spicy punch.

Hainanese 'Fen Pi' Laksa - $14.80

Love the flavourful laksa that’s using Fen Pi noodle. Comes with sliced with ramen char siu, succulent prawns, beancurd skin rolls, hard-boiled egg, beansprouts and house-made sambal chilli. I even asked for extra gravy, that’s how yummy it was

Overall a decent plate of chicken cutlet. The potato chips crumb indeed does make the cutlet crisper. Apart from that nothing else really stands out for this dish.

Third time trying @thehainanstorybakery 's swiss rolls! Ive tried their belgian chocolate roll and kaya pandan roll before, which were great, so my standards for this roll were pretty high too.
Was kinda surprised to find that the taro filling had been cooked with fried shallots inside, cuz Ive never had a yam cake with shallots before. Hence this cake roll was very slightly more savoury than other yam cakes I've had.
The yam filling was very very smooth and had a natural yam taste. The addition of fried shallots added an fragrant onion aroma that wasn't overwhelming or strange.
The cake was also suuuuper soft and fluffy. That, combined with the generous amount of yam filling, made this a really good cake!
You can get this swiss roll, along with plenty of @thehainanstorybakery 's other bakes with FREE DELIVERY via @pickupp.sg ! Get an extra $5 off when you use my code 《BREADINOSAUR》when checking out with a min spend of $14 😚

Located at B2 of Jewel, The Hainan Story offers a wide range of Hainanese delicacies, including chicken rice, pork cutlet and curry rice. It was a popular spot and we had to wait awhile for a seat on a Friday evening. Food was however served quickly upon ordering through our phones.
For the curry rice dishes, one could select between a sunny side-up or the long bean omelette (pictured), as well as between spicy lady’s finger or chap chye (pictured). While decent, the omelette was nothing special. I felt the same way about the chap chye, which included pieces of fish maw, mushrooms, carrot and cabbage drowning in a thick viscous sauce. The tempeh pieces and koropok were more special. For the protein, the dory fish was fried well, with a crunchy surface and tender meat beneath the breading. The curry sauce coating the rice grains was flavorful and the chili sauce given at the side gave the dish an extra hint of spiciness desired for spice lovers.
The egg tarts, while served cold, were also pretty decent. The buttery base was fragrant and the eggy centre was tender.
For a place like Jewel, we feel that the prices are acceptable and the standards are pretty good too.
