Cold Rendang Custard, Chye Poh Fries, Seafood Laksa and Orange Pork Ribs. These are the few dishes which I enjoyed at SLAKE. With a more centralised location (previously at Bedok), I will frequent it more.
Focusing on contemporary SEA cuisine and known for the vibrant flavours, youโll be in for a treat. After trying their Chye Poh Fries ($12), I canโt look at them the same way. Topped with crispy chye poh and aged black vinegar mayo, this is one dish I canโt stop reaching for.
Seafood Laksa Linguine ($22), generously filled with prawns, mussels, clams, taupok and onsen egg is another recommended dish. Generous rempah with sauce clinging to each strand of pasta, we clean this in no time. But if youโre not a fan of pasta, the hearty Slake Nasi Kerabu ($19) aka Brown Rice Salad is a flavourful alternative.
P.S: if youโre up for it, they serve Battered Pig Ears too!
The chye poh fries ๐ charmed me with their subtle radish bits (tasted like the stuff in chee kueh) but could have used more radish to really sell its unique flavour.
The 10pc Har Cheong Drumlets ๐ really impressed me with their crispy crumbs outside and tender interior. The prawn paste taste could be stronger but this was a good take on the classic har cheong gai!
If you're feeling adventurous, you can even add on to the set with kombu, umami, and Japanese curry mayo ๐ to add some exciting dimension to your fries. I felt that the kombu was the best because it gave a hint of unique seaweed flavour that gave a more satisfying umami kick than the umami mayo itself.
Last but not least, the bundle is topped off with mala popcorn ๐ฟ that isn't spicy but just peppered and flavoured to taste like mala sauce.
Taco feast bundle ($99) ๐ฎ 8/10
Believe me when I say this was a feast. This set includes: 12 Tacos + 2 boxes of Fries + 2 Sambal Mayo + 10pcs Har Cheong Drumlets + 2 Mala Homemade Popcorn!
Each taco was delightfully combined with Asian flavours at provided for an extremely satisfying and hearty meal. Pictured are the:
Ebi Fry Chilli Crab ๐ค
Beef Pot Roast Taco ๐
Hoisin Duck Taco ๐ฆ
Vietnamese Cha Ca Cod Taco ๐
Nanban Chicken Taco ๐
Filipino Pork Soft Bone Sisig Taco ๐
I would say all of them taste really good -- the beef pot roast and cod were quite flavourful with the cod being quite spicy and exhillarating.
However, the nanban chicken tasted a bit strange with the chunks of chicken and achar, and the sisig was a bit too shredded and bland.
Spam and mayonaise spread on some bread, topped with tobikko and some pickled broccoli stems.
Came to Slake specially for this after seeing it on NOC's Food King but it was not accurately represented. The video showed the spread separately in a glass container where you could spread it yourself whereas it was served to us like this. The bread is not crispy, the spread wasnt anything special either. Overall quite disappointing. Does look really nice though

Drizzled with some sour sauce which makes the pork taste less heavy. It was really crispy, even after being covered by the sauce for a while. The pork was very soft as well. One thing to note is that it has a lot of pork fat, so people who don't like that might want to avoid this. It was a little too much for 2 people, I recommend this to be shared among 3 people

Came here after watching Food King. I felt that there wasn't a lot of variety for mains in their menu. The carbonara uses angel hair pasta and is unique as it isn't very creamy. The sous vide egg is a good addition to the pasta as well. Since it isn't that heavy, it doesnt get jelat but may get a bit salty after awhile. But there was a lot of ingredients inside (bacon and mushroom). I would still recommend trying!
