Pictured is a bacon sandwich and "chips" while behind is a cordon bleu. The last time I went, the food wasn't very special and I was a little miffed about the "chips" which just turned out to be lightly salted crisps 😔 I do seem to remember that their food was slightly cheaper than the usual $16-20 in other nearby cafes, though. |

Their interior, with its white tables and brown chairs, has a clean Scandinavian colour aesthetic that was quite minimalist. I went on a Sunday afternoon and it was quite empty and we weren't packed like sardines in an echo-filled hall unlike in other cafés, so that was good. |

Unfortunately, they're closed until further notice so I'm not sure if you'll be able to give them a try even when Phase 1 ends 😕 But I hope this picture gives you cafe vibes and reminds you of the times where we could meet friends over a cuppa and marbled cafe tables! ☺️ | .

Was looking for a place to chill after a hike at macritchie with my friend and chanced upon this place! Turns out to be such a great choice because we were also looking for a spacious/quiet place with free wifi so we could do some trip planning 😛 And this place fits all our criteria!

A lovely, cozy neighbourhood cafe. The service was very friendly too. Food was pretty delicious though nothing too spectacular. Tried the ondeh-ondeh latte which was so pretty and delish! Love the wooden cups and delicate mini spoons (I have a thing for cutlery hahaha)✨

Wouldn’t mind coming back here to hang out / for a cuppa if I’m around the area.

As a new entrant to the already competitive Thomson café scene, I’d say they have much to work on. This was a painfully mediocre dish. Slightly dry patty, cheap Kraft cheese, and a perplexing side of Lays (straight out turn-off). Whoever said potato crisps were tolerable substitutes for fries in a “burger and chips”?! That’s literalism of a criminal degree. Saving graces: sunny side up, black pepper seared portobello. But they’re just not enough!!! I’m struggling to find justifications for the frankly extortionate price.

💭 Just forget it

This is OK. The matcha shone and it wasn’t too sweet. But it’s easy to mistake the thin consistency for dilution, and perhaps the way forward is to pump in a little more milk. It’s a latte after all. That said, I wouldn’t seek out this place on account of its latte. The flak is not undeserved (see my other review) so it’s a no from me – at least not till they ameliorate food standards.

Thumbs up for the matcha latte, 10/10 for visual n flavour. What a pleasant experience I had there - not only for the food but also had a nice conversation with the cafe owners and who would expect to be entertained with a magic show while you’re eating? Definitely cheered up my day.

A sweet take on matcha latte with a double dose of matcha! The drink comes with an additional scoop of matcha ice cream which makes it a lil too sweet for my liking, but the matcha by itself packs a pinch!

Matcha Latte: asked for one without sugar, which was gladly delivered. What a pity that the matcha flavour wasn’t very strong in this one.

Mocha: really enjoyed how the chocolate still managed to shine through the strong caffeine

I've heard of the cafe on several social platforms but never tried it yet. Today decided to have a go at it, did not regret at all ! The ambience is great, brightly lit with well air conditioned. The boss himself came and took our orders & gave his genuine recommendations. His service is impeccable. From asking feedback after every table to saying goodbyes to every table when he's going off, surely tells of his passion in running this place. Food's great, ice cream's good. Cons: perhaps the pricing for tea could be lower (same priced as lattes) or served in a pot instead. Overall, it's a pleasant dining experience that deserves a second visit. 👍🏻👍🏻

I feel like people were mumbling curses behind my back when I collected lolol

But anyway!! First KopiPass experience at Nook and Cranny (formerly Five by Five) went pretty well

Tried their recommended Chicken Bleu ($15.50): boneless chicken thigh stuffed with bacon and cheese served with orzo rice pasta and salad. Dk what herbs they baked the chicken in but wow 👍🏻👍🏻 For the Truffled Mac and Cheese ($14.50): the truffle oil really worked its magic here. This was my fave!!

Redeemed a freeeeee signature matcha latte (a must try at this cafe) and a hot mocha for myself! #burpple #kopipass #dqky

Crispy waffles serves with 4 scoops of ice cream. Royal cheese was weird, blueberry was good together with the milo. Surprisingly, the mango was not too bad and is quite a unique taste. Good deal 👍🏼

Chicken thigh covered in cheese instead of the usual stuffed type (I prefer the latter). The meat itself was decently tender and juicy with a hint of spice in its marination. Came with a side of orzo rice and greens, but found it quite an average dish.

First time trying orzo pasta and it tasted great, with bacon bits mixed in. However, it was a tad too oily, and I need to complain about the chicken itself. It was juicy and tender, but they stuffed the inside with too strong a seasoning (?) filling(tasted like rosemary) and the bacon kinda fell apart instead of wrapping nicely round the chicken. My cheese was also served downwards, with the heat of the orzo melting it before I could properly cut into it. Poor execution and lack of consistency, as my friend's chicken bleu had melted cheese atop the chicken. Concept of the dish is good, but still quite a few misses, especially with the cheese.

Nook & Cranny's Nook Beef Sandwich ($14.50++) is basically the Portobello Beef Burger's smaller brethren, but it's no less heavenly than the burger.

The same thick, juicy beef patty is sandwiched between two well buttered slices of brioche toast, a slice of melted cheddar cheese that stretches oh so lewdly when you pull that thick sandwich apart, and a violently explosive sunny side up egg that won't explode if you cut into it while laughing too much.

If you're looking to sin in moderation, then this baby is the perfect choice to cram your face with.

Almost like a coconut ice cream with lots of taro "ripples", the Coconut Taro Ice Cream (S$4.50) is one ice cream flavour you ought to try. But no worries if you are not ready to commit, because you can always ask for a spoonful to try before you buy.

A lifesaver for hungry folks, the Portobello Beef Burger (S$15.50) is a flavourful main course that has beef patty and sliced Portobello mushrooms. The ingredient-rich burger also contained bacon, honey ham, cheddar cheese, and that alluring sunny side up (read: yolk porn) which the doneness was surely on-point for the yolk to run.

But hope that it's not always the case for the patty to be too cooked, which could make it rubbery and difficult to cut with the knife.

One of the best sellers on Nook & Cranny's menu would be their Chicken Bleu - boneless chicken thigh stuffed with bacon & cheese and deep fried, served atop orzo and with a side of greens.

I'm not usually a fan of Cordon Bleu as I'm always afraid of either uncooked meat, or extremely dry meat. However, Nook & Cranny's version surprises me with a juicy & oozy center, allowing the meat to remain succulent even after being deep fried.

The orzo that goes with it may not be everyone's favourite, but it does go pretty well once the cheese oozes out and you have everything together.

The waffle batter here’s sweeter but had quite a good amount of crisp and fluffiness, along with a light fragrance. A decent dessert option! Also, it seems like the Thai Milk Tea and Coconut Taro are the most popular ice cream flavours.

Brioche toast layered with pan fried beef patty, bacon, fried egg, cheddar cheese and mesclun. Served with chips!

Because he's a fungi. Geddit?! Thank you, thank you, I'll be here all week. On a more serious note, Nook & Cranny's Portobello Beef Burger is seriously excellent, and is definitely one of the better café burgers round town.

A delightful, juicy and scintillating beef patty that's as thick as Christina Hendricks has a nice, gooey blanket of cheddar cheese melted on top of it. It's then lovingly smothered beneath a bevy of beautifully browned portobello mushrooms, a rasher of bacon, a slice of honey ham, and a wobbly, perfectly fried sunny side up egg for all your eggporn lusts. I went into this burger with tempered expectations, and I'm glad to report that this burger has exceeded all my expectations and then some.

The stellar seasoning job on the minced beef patty was definitely the play of the match here, catapulting the whole whopper of a burger into sensational status. Even though it's pan fried and not grilled, the burger is seared superbly, and the thick beef patty is just so moist and dropping with its lovely juices. The Portobellos brought a lovely chewy earthiness to compliment the meatiness of the beef, and while I didn't notice the bacon in there, the thin slices of honey ham within definitely had my attention with its slight sweetness and soft, delicate textures to contrast with the patty.

Even though it may just be a café in a (rather large, I must say) nook & cranny, the Portobello Beef Burger will ensure that everything keeps moo-ving along smoo-thly for Nook & Cranny, and it can even stand up to the big boys nearby.

A massive thank you goes out to Nook & Cranny for hosting us, and another massive thank you to Burpple for the invite!
