Pluses: double (!!!) medium-rare Angus chuck patties which were properly gamy without being tough, oozing with American cheddar and bedecked with onion strips caramelised in red wine. Could be better: greasiness, and doughy buns. I wish they tasted less like cheap Gardenia rolls.

💭 Can try
The Angus beef patty was a little dry and lacked a succulent bite. But the delicious hatcho miso sauce came in generous quantities and gave each bite the wetness it deserved. The unexpected highlight was the caramelised onions – treacle-textured with a sweetness that fell in harmony with the miso sauce.

💭 Can try
As a new entrant to the already competitive Thomson café scene, I’d say they have much to work on. This was a painfully mediocre dish. Slightly dry patty, cheap Kraft cheese, and a perplexing side of Lays (straight out turn-off). Whoever said potato crisps were tolerable substitutes for fries in a “burger and chips”?! That’s literalism of a criminal degree. Saving graces: sunny side up, black pepper seared portobello. But they’re just not enough!!! I’m struggling to find justifications for the frankly extortionate price.

💭 Just forget it
What to expect: delightful medium-rare patty, truffle shrooms and strings of caramelised onions topped amply with cheese & mayo. Served with a side of shoestring fries which were piping hot and crispy on the first bite. Nothing flamboyant, but just right for a decadent meal. I know people have complained of dryness and gristliness in the patty, but thankfully mine suffered no such afflictions. The rocket was a bad idea though.
