At just $3.50, each bowl is made to order and the coolest part is that you get to see them pull pieces of noodles from a giant dough - something that you hardly see in Singapore anymore.
Insider tip: Add $1.50 for a poached egg and liver in your Mee Hoon Kueh, and order some of their traditional Char Siew Paus while waiting! You won’t regret it 😉

Okay, it is special coz there is onions in the big pau ($1.80) which makes it sweeter maybe? Plus the meat used is more lean. (Bought from the branch outlet at tampines one basement) #burpple #burpplesg #namkeepau

handmade pieces of chewy dough w fragrant stewed mushrooms, tender minced pork balls and an egg cracked into the flavourful broth w a topping of veg and crispy fried anchovies...... this warm, hearty and comforting bowl is so satisfying, esp on a cold and rainy day ☺️👅 at only $4 (bc +$0.50 for the egg) it doesn’t get much better than this

😍😍 It's so satisfying when my mee hoon kueh has a slightly bouncy and chewy texture. After all it's supposed to be kueh, not just square flat noodles. Nam Kee also adds mushrooms to the soup so the soup smells especially fragrant and unique. 😋😋 Would be back sooner if it wasn't all the way hidden in Turf City. 😓😓

😋 Nam Kee sells good Pau as well as Mee Hoon Kueh & Crispy Egg Noodles. The handmade dough is so smooth and chewy. Overall the bowl of Mee Hoon Kueh is flavourful and gives a comforting homey feel. That explains the long queues during lunch time.

$4 ( with egg) I love this little bowl of mee hoon quay.

Amongst all the pricier food options in Grandstand is 南记 Nam Kee, which specializes in traditional in-house handmade paus, recipes from Malaysia. It's not an unusual sight to see people taking away tens of them, which makes me really wonder why I haven't yet tried one!?

What keeps my family coming back here is their bowls of hand pulled mee hoon kway that we know we can always rely on for a hearty and comforting meal. Seriously shiok especially when it's cold and rainy outside! The kways were cooked to a nice bite, minced pork were tender and the soup although clear, was packed with flavour. Plus those crispy anchovies and stewed mushrooms - oh man I would pay for an extra serving of them!!! Portion's slightly smaller than usual but you can get the big bowl at $5. Other noodle options are the usuals - ban mian, you mian, ke kou noodles.

Nam Kee's almost always packed with people so if you're in big groups, avoid the peak hours! #BurppleCheapNGood

Back from a food-filled time in Perth and school kicks in full gear but before that Sunday brunch constitute of local tastes. The handmade paus here are great with tasty fillings; the chewy manually torn mee hoon Kuey were an exception too. I usually like perfectly squared Mee Hoon Kuey that are not coalesced in a mass but the ones here were great as they were without being clumpy! I'd come back for the 3.50$ bowl over and over again 😬

Best ever. Very flavourful and wholesome. The mee hoon kuey is painstakingly hand pinched for every bowl.

I love love love this. I dare say it's one of the best around. The pieces of dough are torn off right in front of you and flicked into the soup. They're cooked perfectly with the right chew to it, and that soup stock is just so packed full of flavour. Even the stewed mushrooms are flavour bombs. Also love the paus here (check out their Ye Zi Mei pau, which is super huge and yummy!)

GIANT BAO 😊😊 A succulent and juicy meat inside the bun. A surprise juice is drilling down when cut off the bun

Fancy of bao !! Amy Yip bao is one of the bao that we shouldn't miss out from Nam Kee traditional handmade JB bao. It is big enough to satistify my bao craving with a juicy and tender meat filling. Oh! And the Mee Hoon Kueh reminds me of traditional local food

Also in the shop, paus of many kinds, and also lou mai kai. This amy yip da pau is bigger then my face for $4. Couldn't finish and da pau for supper. $4 for 2 meals.... not bad huh? The meat and juice was so good along with the not so thick skin, the "liao" was stuffed fully inside!

The interior of this place seem to be odd within the collection of stores in the grandstand. This small store in the shop sells pork porridge, mee hun kuay and ke kou mian. Very JB street food style. Please note the super Gigantic Amy Yip Da Pau behind... as big as the bowl of porridge.

The #meehoonkueh (hand-torn noodles) was of nice chewy bouncy texture and came with Ikan billis, fried shallots and fragrant mushrooms. Egg was an added 50c. Altogether, it was a simple but yummy & satisfying soupy bowl of noodles. We also enjoyed their handmade baos. The #charsiewbao had generous filling of sweet tender barbecued pork and the big bao had a yummy egg and flavourful lean meat (liked that it wasn’t fatty/ oily like some places)
⚠️ @thegrandstand_sg isn’t the most convenient of places by there is free parking available and they also offer shutter bus services to many areas (botanics, Clementi, Toa Payoh)

But we changed plans last min to plaza singapura. And guess what, there is now a nam kee pau in plaza sing too! Tried their noodle items this time! Wanted to try their meehoonkuey but it was already sold out, hence the ban mian ($4). The banmian was chewy! V diff from the soft soft nua nua kind you get in food courts. But there wasn't alot of minced meat. Bf had the jumbo fish cutlet curry rice ($5.80). It was really jumbo!

But one thing they really need to improve on is the queue/wait time. Firstly, it was really confusing having 3 diff queues (signs were also only in English and the older folks were all confused)- One for rice, one for noodles and one for bao items. It was made worse during changing shift time when there was only one man manning two counters, which got customers confused. secondly, the person who was in charge of cooking the banmian was away which led to a backlog of orders. We had to wait 22mins for the banmian! The bao queue was also quite long even when there weren't that many ppl. The waiter was just not v efficient?

It's called the Amy Yip Pau, named after a HK actress with a very heavy front/ assets. Didn't manage to take a cross section of this Pau because the moment I started off with a bite, the soup from the core began to leak out... Making the aftermath kinda messy. This Pau contains pork chunks, mushrooms, Chinese sausages and half an egg.
