so underrated. the plain prata is slightly crisp on the outside, the dough is thin but fluffy in the middle + the fish curry is v decent. i usually have 3 for teabreak w/o feeling jelat at all as it’s not too oily too!
coming from someone who doesn’t eat siew mai usually, it says a lot. it’s super flavourful and juicy, altho i’m pretty sure it’s due to higher ratio of pork fats as compared to normal. but it’s ok it’s worth it. i tried the charcoal chicken one before (whilst that one is defo more insta worthy it is lacklustre taste wise so just get it instead heh)
.
har gou is normal.... nth much to shout abt but the prawns v fresh and bouncy + skin not v thick!! .
OK their crispy prawn chee cheong fun is a MUST GET too. the rice rolls are silky smooth and thin + the crispy covering and the huge prawns....... the contrasting textures is so good like it adds dimension to the dish not to mention it’s super flavourful too
.
the fresh shrimp spring rolls r pretty normal too... their shrimp is super on point but the casing was slightly too crisp (dk what i complaining tbh it is supposed to be fried but it’s like too fried for me???? 🤣 sorry picky consumer)
.
the new wanton noodles w fresh shrimp dumpling is also just avg hahahaha the shrimps legit on point (i think the same is used for all their dishes) and the noodles q enough but i wldnt go down specially for it!! omg if u read my rambles till here HI :”)
this charsiewsou is a level abv the rest bc of 3 things, firstly the pastry is buttery and flakey whilst not being dry!! secondly the charsiew filling is v substantial, not overly sweet which can get jelat but it complements the pastry well. thirdly just look at the ratio of meat to crust (swipe left) it’s super good....... #burpplebeyond
i loved the buttery shell (altho i wld have preferred it more crisp as it was a lil doughy) and they were sooo generous w the liu sha, which flowed out with just a tiny bite!! it was both sweet and savoury, w smoothness from the liusha and a nice bite from the bun. the liu sha filling was slightly grainy and separated but definitely distinct in flavour! 1-1 in #burpplebeyond :-)
the filling of chinese sausage and mushrooms flavours the entire dish rly well w a tinge of wokhei!! got this dish 1-1 with #burpplebeyond 😋
the pie had the same filling, encased in a delectably buttery crust + the ratio of filling to crust was perfecto. honolulu rly has my tummy when it comes to these hk pastries
from the thin chewy skin to the thick sweet sauce, crunchy bits + nuts, juicy meat and the main filling itself is so flavorful
wanted selera rasa at first but it was closed on fri (sadz didn’t check beforehand) so we settled for no.1 adam’s instead but no regrets — the coconut infused rice was warm, soft and fluffy!! while all the other ingredients are defo abv average altho nth to shout abt, their chicken wings were rly good; crisp on the outside w a well flavored batter that had some additional spices that deviated from the norm to rly elevate its taste to another level!! also love how affordable it is, despite adding begedil, hotdog and rice to our sutra special it only totaled up to $10.50 for everything :”) wld defo be back soon to get their mutton rendang!!
LE cafe has some of the best snacks w their beancurd tarts and their rock buns as my go to!! the shell while fragile and on the crumbly side still holds a bite which provides a nice contrasting texture to the soft and silky filling which makes it such a light and delightful treat.
a chewy, soft pandan crepe packed full w juicy coconut gula melaka filling 🤤 the best i have ever tasted!! it’s so flipping good i bought 4 boxes!! swipe left for a dissection of this amazingness
being a fan of their original ones (+ i rly like pandan) i just had to try this!! as always, the buttery biscuit-like base is soooo good!! 🤤 the custard was wobbly and velvety smooth, but the pandan taste was slightly subtle for me. i think i prefer the original but it was still amazing :~) for $1.90 they r defo worth the price!!
buttery, creamy scrambled eggs folded into multiple layers, loved the dimension of this!! the bolo bun was soft and fluffy, but sadly it was kinda plain :( and i expected the top crust to be thicker and crunchier!! slightly overpriced for $6.50 though ~~~
JK had the HK noodles which tbh wasn’t gd and not worth gg back for ($9.90) 🙃
