Hence, to commemorate the upcoming festive period, Executive Chef Nicky Ng from Mitzo has launched a Festive Set Menu that will be available until 1 January 2021, which you can order, and have it delivered to the comfort of your home. This 6-course set menu is good for 2 persons and it comes with their signature Special Barbecued Pork, Deep Fried Prawns with Fermented Beancurd Mayonnaise, Double-boiled Pumpkin & Turkey Soup, Braised Miso Lamb Shank, Chilean Sea Bass with Wild Mushroom Sauce and Unagi & Seaweed Fried Rice. The festive set menu is priced at $148 without cocktails or $178 which comes with two portions of Purp Me Up Festive Cocktails.

The special barbecued pork is without a doubt one of Mitzo’s best dishes with the correct meat to fat ratio and the nicely caramelized top while the prawns that are coated in a fermented beancurd mayonnaise brings about a nice fusion of flavours. Continuing with the contemporary fusion of flavours, the lamb shank is steamed with ginger and Chinese wine before it gets braised in a bonito, dashi and miso mixture to remove the gaminess from the meat.

Presenting the mooncakes from Mitzo this year and the restaurant has launched the Baked Yam Mooncakes with Salted Egg Yolk & Pistachio Nuts ($78 for 4 pcs/$98 for 6pcs). Each of these baked goodies are handcrafted with the traditional spiral flaky layer which resulted in a buttery texture and the inside contains the smooth and sweet yam paste, complimented with the savoury salted egg yolk. The flavours are balanced nicely so that you do not get surfeited after a couple of bites and with the added crushed pistachios, it gives a layering mouthfeel.

Traditionally, mooncakes are paired with a cup of hot tea but with a contemporary twist, Mitzo has concocted a cocktail that’s specially made for the Mid-Autumn festival. Named the Moonlighter, this cocktail is made with a base of eight treasure tea that’s infused and shaken with Milagro tequila, Licor 43, grapefruit juice, chrysanthemum syrup and orange bitters. Sipping on this unique cocktail while enjoying the baked mooncakes is the pairing that Mitzo is recommending so that the floral and citrus notes of the cocktail helps to refresh your senses. There is a bundle of mooncakes and cocktail retailing at $104 for 4 mooncakes and 2 cocktails or $128 for 6 mooncakes and 2 cocktails.

I love their exquisite cute little handmade dim sum with a naughty play of East Meet West. Escargot cheese puff?! What will be the first thing that comes to your mind? Interestingly, you have that crusty 酥脆 puff and within is a piece of escargot and semi hardened cheese. Something really unique. Beside that, I really love their truffle duck! But just hoping that it could be a little bit more tender!

Portions tend to be tiny, and the menu is not super long, but generally speaking the food is good and unusual. The char siew is fantastic, although it’s a bit sweet, so limiting consumption to two pieces per person probably maximises pleasure. The signature truffle duck is delectable. The seabass is quite yummy. Other dishes we had are ok without being wow - the main thing is there was no bad dish. Service is very attentive, albeit a bit awkward throughout the evening. Prices are reasonable, especially with a discount voucher from a variety of suppliers like Entertainer. Overall, a good restaurant, but not good enough to displace the premium Chinese restaurants at hotels in the Orchard Road area, eg. Regent, Four Seasons, Orchard Hotel, Mandarin Orchard. But in my opinion, it beats Goodwood Park, Marriott, and maybe St Regis.

We loved this light, refreshing dessert! Perfect ending to follow a heavy meal. The popping boba was fun, and the lychee sorbet was delicious!

Instead of it being braised, the Pen Cai from @MitzoSG is a dry rendition, with each item done separately and served together in the pot. This is quite different from the rest we had, and is surprisingly delicious.

Mitzo’s weekend brunch buffet starts from 1130H to 1430H at a cost of $68++ per pax. If you like, you could top up $60++ for free-flow cocktails. While the food on offer was a series of hits and misses, it was overall a really memorable dining experience and a brunch worth trying for celebrating special occasions.
Food: 7.5/10
Ambience: 8.5/10
Service: 8.5/10
Price: 6.5/10
