[CLOSED] JINzakaya

* This place has closed :( Please try somewhere else. * The new retro-chic JINzakaya by award-winning Les Amis Group, is tucked in a pedestrian backstreet off Rangoon road beside sister concept Sushi Jin. Whilst Sushi Jin exudes luxuriousness with delicate Japanese food in a finer setting, JINzakaya is a riot of fun that transports one back to old Tokyo train station taverns. Immerse in this casual laid-back Japanese izakaya where one can enjoy an eclectic mix of affordable set lunches, sharing plates and assorted yakimono (grilled items). The dinner menu takes on a more Izakaya identity, offering an assortment of grilled skewers and mains to choose from. JINzakaya is ideal for a fun-filled weekend in a buoyant atmosphere of animated laughter or a casual space on weekdays for workers to decompress among colleagues. Kanpai!

Ebi Ten Donburi 桷老倩丼 (S$16++)
shrimp 🦐 tempura on rice 🍚, appetizer, pickle, soup, dessert
Available during lunch at @Jinzakaya
The appetizer was potato πŸ₯” salad πŸ₯— with a hint of truffle oil. Not bad with 4 pieces of tempura 🍀 but wished that they could be crispier. Ended the meal with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Many people already know and love foie gras for its smooth, buttery texture and insanely indulgent deliciousness. But what happens when an absolute madman decides to up the ante and grill it over charcoal?

Well, that's basically JINzakaya's freakin' fantastic grilled foie gras. Take all of its familiar elements and mix it up with a beautifully charred crust on the outside, the hot, melting insides, the superb smokiness from the charcoal grilling, and a dab of sweet & savory teriyaki sauce, and you get heaven. Artery clogging, palate pleasuring heaven. If that ain't enough debauchery for you, pair it with a glass of Japanese whisky that complements this rich, buttery stick of sin unbelievably well.

With these bad boys, it's every man for himself. Ain't no sharing gonna be happening here, lemme tell you that.

First tried this @ Ryu's few weeks ago and Dad wasn't with us; decided to order a portion for him and I think we would have to bring him to Ryu's the next time.
Jinzakaya' rendition used red beans instead of the brown sugar syrup. It wasn't as smooth and soft as Ryu's; passing off sadly as rigid normal jelly.
Couldn't help but think "only when you tasted something mediocre, will you realise the good stuff".

Behind it the nondescript bowl of mango pudding (complementary) was gr8. Smooth and milky just the way I would love it- with a citrus dressing that gave a refreshing twist to the usual yellow fruit pudding.

($3-$12++/skewer) I appreciated the Yuzu zest atop the Angus beef skewer and found the all full protein skewers conventionally decent. Would definitely appreciate if they offer value for money skewer combo sets (i.e. Mix and match/fixed combination of 6 skewers etc).

Essentially a spin off from grilled chicken ramen- the same rich broth has now been "kimchi-fied" with the appetising, orange hued Korean pickle.

I preferred to Jin Tori Ramen- for I did not find this an exceptional spin off, I have tasted good Japanese flavours complementing the Korean staple like bread and butter but this was sadly not one of such experience.

The Chirashi Don on the other hand was a stellar option; we definitely appreciated the generous cubes of sashimi and tamago over a bed of sweet Japanese rice.

($14++ ala carte) While this was arguably not what the restaurant is famous for- I'd say it outstripped the other items we had. Very commendable for an Izakaya to serve up a delectable bowl of ramen. Rich opaque broth with a flawlessly char-grilled chicken thigh; each thick and tender chunk of the latter is still etched in my mind!
We also successfully savoured the broth till its last drop- vouching for its substance.
