Top: smoke shack burger @ $11.80
Bottom: shack burger @ $9.90

Black & white milkshake @ $7.60
Cheese fries @ $6.30

Burgers are great, tasty and juicy. The buns are soft and nice.

Drinks and sides are quite pricey. The fries are better off normal than cheese.

@shakeshacksg Black Truffle Fries ($8.90) marks a return to form for the Shack’s renowned fries. The last time round, I ordered the Steakhouse fries and got stale, stodgy spuds and a distressing lack of sauce. This time, the fries were nearly fresh out the fryer, and they’re sauced to the socks.⠀

Just like with the burger, the fantastic fries were doused with black truffle mayo and garnished with crispy fried shallots and scallions. The gratifyingly crisp fries got an extra boost from the shallots, and that truffle mayo turns the excellent fries into godly fries. The intoxicating essence of truffle permeates everything, turning the spuds into an amazingly aromatic experience, while the rich creaminess of the mayonnaise turns the lusciousness up to eleven.

However, there is such a thing as too much of a good thing, as the mountain of fab fries combined with the hedonism of the truffle mayo and the fried scallions got too much to bear after the halfway mark. These breathtaking Black Truffle Fries demand to be washed down with a pint of four of Shake Shack’s Shackmeister ale, and to be shared with friends (may or may not come with benefits). Tis the season of giving after all, no?

I have no clue as to how I missed @shakeshacksg Black Truffle Burger last year, but I sure wasn’t gonna miss it this year. I was prepared for truffle, and I made it double for $17.50. A standard Shackburger has its components of lettuce, tomato and proprietary Shacksauce substituted off for black truffle mayonnaise, crispy shallots & arugula.⠀

Is it just me, or have Shake Shack’s traditionally thin smashed beef patties gotten tastefully thicker since my last visit? Each patty in my double burger was phat, and my burger was stacked. Thickness aside, the beef lived up to the standards expected of the Shack. A gorgeously caramelised crust overlaid with melted Swiss cheese forms the exterior of the patties, while the innards were delectably juicy despite being grilled to well done.⠀

There were many complaints about the dire lack of black truffle mayo last year, but I’m pleased to announce that the mayo is more than sufficient this year. The mayonnaise is utterly imbued with the flavour & scent of black truffles, and it blesses the breathtaking burger with its earthy, heady aroma. The crispy deep fried shallots were a great addition for the crunch, but their greasiness was the straw that broke the camel’s back, making the burger too rich to handle.⠀

Or it would’ve been without the inspired inclusion of arugula into the mix. The natural bitterness & pepperiness of the arugula sweeps all that creamy, fatty richness from the beef, cheese, greasy buttered bun, fried shallots & truffle off your tastebuds and readies them for round two.⠀

Yes, The Shack’s Black Truffle Burger is indulgence redefined and will give nutritionists an aneurysm, but it’s Christmas, and it’s Wideboi Winter. Go treat yourself to this brilliant black truffle burger multiple times before it vanishes at the stroke of midnight on 31 December.

I’ve always regarded @shakeshacksg French Fries as one of the best in the business, so I was quite pumped for the limited edition NY Steakhouse Fries ($6.90). The fantastic fries are drizzled with the same horseradish peppercorn mayo that goes on the burger, and these fries are topped with crispy bacon and scallions.⠀

Maybe the Suntec outlet was having a bad day on the Friday evening I went, but the fries were cold and stodgy. A far cry from the usually hot, crispy outside and fluffy inside fries that I’ve come to expect from Shake Shack. The horseradish mayo was the exact same one applied to the burger; and as such it also lacked punchiness. Also, I thought I was smart in finessing more sauce by ordering the sauce on the side, but I’m dead certain I actually got less sauce and ended up looking like a bozo.⠀

It’s a bit sad that the best element here was the crispy bacon bits. It’s the same applewood smoked bacon that goes into the Shack’s burgers, but it’s extra crisp & coarsely chopped up into pretty sizeable bits here. Sadly, the Steakhouse Fries are only really good for one try and one try only. Stick with the cheese fries instead.
