chicken cheese brown creamy risottoπŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹

Disappointed. I rmbed their sukiyaki being much better when it was delivered a few years back. The shiitake is gone(which soaks up flavour marvelously well), sauce was too salty, beef was tough( I rmbed they used pretty good beef).

Pepper Lunch @ JEM 01/12/19
So I'm pretty sure the majority of Singaporeans will be familiar with the Pepper Lunch they find at food courts, but that will be their Pepper Lunch Express. Their restaurant offers a wider variety of dishes including steak and pasta.

Add Egg & Cheese ($1.70)
Add 3 veg ($1.20) - King Oyster Mushroom, Broccoli, Bean Sprouts
This looked really appetising when I first got it. Even after mixing everything in, I could hardly wait for my first bite due to the bits of partially melted stringy cheese and creamy yolk coating the rice. However, upon taking my first bite, it was admittedly underwhelming as everything tasted bland. The only distinct burst of flavour I got was from my occassional bites of the oyster mushroom which was juicy and delicious. That being said, they do offer salt, black pepper and honey brown sauce at the side for those who may not like how healthy it tastes.
Overall, not satisfying but reasonable portion for the price and sufficiently filling.

Tender and juicy beef cubes with beansprouts and an egg. Would love to have the option to upsize the portion of beef though. The consistency of the beef was fresh and tender.

New Zealand πŸ‡³πŸ‡Ώ Angus Rib Eye (S$19.90)
Available at @pepperlunchsg in @jurongeastmall
Topup S$3.80 for a drink and side which selected ribena and salted caramel pudding.
Help yourself to condiments such as honey brown sauce, garlic soy sauce, pepper and salt, which I felt was not needed as the meat was quite flavoured.

Comes with a soft drink

Loved that it came with the cheese alr caramelised and the risotto sauce served by the side so you get to enjoy your beef pepper rice+cheese first lol. Tbh the tomato sauce was actually really good, a bright balance of sweet and sour, however when you mix everything in, the parmesan tends to overpower the sweetness of the tomato sauce and you're left this with bitterness. So my advice would be to remove the parmesan since the rice is already cheesy enough without the parmesan. Mix everything fast, otherwise the beef would be overcooked and not tender anymore(made the same mistake over and over). Texture wise it's actually much closer to an actual risotto than I expected since the Japanese short grain rice has a nice chew to it but that being said it's still not the real thing so don't expect too much and you will be happy.

Funny how I always felt pepper lunch was overpriced and avoided it during my student days but had a sudden craving for it and now had it two weekends in a row :p

To an ice milo. Pretty good, not the usual diluted version. Would encourage you to top up the 60cents

Think it costs 14.9 normally but I used the fave voucher for first timers so it came to be 13.3. (4 fave vouchers in 1 day lol)

It's been a long time since I had the sukiyaki in Hamamatsu but this came eerily close. Not sure if it was because of my craving(which it completely satisfied) that I think this way but no matter what this is a pretty damn good sukiyaki. The beef was tender, and the sauce was quite authentic, rendering the strong garlic soy quite useless apart from the soft tofu which it went perfectly with. I'm used to thinking Japanese flavours are more mild but this sukiyaki was supremely satisfying. Highly recommended if you're dining in, else it's quite pricey

Tried the new course Beef Risotto today! The cheese adds creamy texture to the beef n rice and the pepper*tomato made it less dull than a normal Risotto. N the complementary tomato n cheesy sauce is a must try! But I would recommend to add only small portion of it - not to mask the pepper flavour!

Totally delighted to see there's Unagi Pepper Rice now! Even without so much additional sauce, it's already so tasty! This menu makes wanna go back to Pepper Lunch for more πŸ€—

Though I enjoyed the crispy burnt cheese with the chicken steak very much, this meal would have been perfect if I could change the curry rice to their sambal pepper rice.

So I was wondering, @pepperlunchsg , in line with your tagline "Sizzle It Your Way", would you consider offering a fully customized menu? One where I can pair your rice/pasta with any of your available protein + any of your existing sauce? Now that'll really be what I call sizzle it my way!πŸ˜‹

Cheesy omelette with brown sauce and chicken (S$13.90). Really love this combination of fluffy egg omelette with melted cheese + succulent and tender chucks of chicken meat. Yummilicious! πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹

In Singapore, there are 7 Pepper Lunch restaurants and 32 Pepper Lunch Express which can be found at the food courts in shopping malls.
We visited the branch at JEM, Jurong East. The place was nice and cozy and quite packed during dinner time. We ordered a Teriyaki Chicken with Egg, a Chicken Curry Cheesy Risotto and a bowl of Mashed Potato.
The Mashed Potato was smooth and the gravy on top was neither too salty nor oily. However, we felt that it was not as good as the one at the Jurong Point Branch.
The Teriyaki Chicken with Egg is the safe option as we had tried it several times. Mixing it with an adequate amount of Honey Brown Sauce and Garlic Soy Sauce and we got a hot plate of pure goodness!

The Chicken Curry Cheesy Risotto was fantastic as well and the highlight was probably watching the cheese melt on the rice and seeing how high it could stretch when we pulled it.
What is your favourite dish at Pepper Lunch?

Note: Do take your photos of the dish quickly as the rice and meat may get charred if you do not stir it fast!
