More Reviews of good food at Peperoni Pizzeria (Upper Thomson)

At an office get together, a colleague said this was a must order at peperoni and she was right. Beyond the reliable pizzas Peperoni offers, explaining its numerous locations that had braved the competitive food scene in SG; don’t forget to get these succulent chicken wings with a mildly spicy sauce!

Their wings are a good dupe of McSpicy, where you sink your teeth into the crunchy batter to get to the steaming hot, tender meat inside. It’s really finger licking good and would go well with alcohol 🤪

The mains all go very nicely with their sweet, sprightly and refreshing Aperol Slushie which helps to wash things down.

Then came the star of the meal, the famous XXL pizza that they are renowned for. The pizza had elasticity in the middle and slightly charred bubbles on the edges, promising a satisfying crunch to the crust. Dressed in Salmon & Kale with Umami Sauce on 1 side, the kale may look somewhat wilted in the heat but it was crisp and buried under a snowfall of salmon chunks and dressing. The Burrata & Prosciutto is a fail safe option and needless to say, was pretty bomb.

The Roasted Cauliflower may not sound as tantalising as their other dishes but never judge a book by its cover. It’s unassuming outlook of a cauliflower with wisps of charred ends on its florets sitting innocently on a pool of sauce made from Sumac, Yoghurt, Tahini, Garlic, Honey, White Sesame, Majoram, Oregano, Thyme, Parsley will leave you going mm and ahhs.

peperoni pizzeria is no stranger to many of you but did you know they’ve recently revamped their menu introducing new dishes that’s bound to satisfy even the pickiest of tastebuds?

Take for example their Citrus Avocado with Ice Plant. As someone who vehemently dislikes vegetables, I found this dish strangely likeable. Comprising of Avocado, Ice Plant, Cherry Tomato, Red Radish, Orange Segment, Ricotta Crumb, Hazelnut and Orange Vinaigrette, this was a citrusy and refreshing dish that’ll do well in kicking start your appetite.

@peperonipizzeria doesn’t just do perfect pizza pies, they craft a charming Calamari Fritti as well, for the relatively reasonable price for $14++. Fourteen bucks for an appetiser is about right, and the sumptuous squid certainly warrants that price tag & possibly a little more.⠀

The felicitously fresh, snappy squid is coated in a beautiful batter that forms a stunningly crispy shell, which forms a perfect yin/yang contrast with the tender yet compellingly chewy squid. It’s salted superbly, but the sharp lemon mayonnaise & the mildly spicy arrabbiata sauce exponentially elevates this otherwise simple appetiser. The lemon mayo adds a redolent richness to the entire affair that’s kept in check by a zing from the zest of the lemon, while the mildly spicy arrabbiata adds a subtle, savoury spiciness to the proceedings.⠀

In summary: get the calamari at Peperoni Pizzeria. Thank me later in the form of US legal tender hundred dollar bills later. What can I say except you’re welcome.

@peperonipizzeria? It’s been eighty four years...okay, it may not have been that long, but it’s been literal years since I last paid a visit to this pizza chain that’s frequented by the upper crust of pie society (see what I did there?)⠀

I was pretty puffed to discover that they’d kept their trademark half & half pizzas around, and I went with the double trouble of chicken truffle & portobello on a large 12 inch pie base ($30++). The chicken roulades on the chicken truffle half were almost as magnificently moist & tantalisingly tender as I remember it with just a slight dip in quality. The aroma of truffle from the black truffle dressing was terrifically tantalising, and one smells the pizza before one even lays eyes on it.⠀

Even though it was most definitely truffle oil as opposed to the real thing, the heady fragrance leased its pleasant pungency to the mildly flavoured chicken, the stunningly sweet sautéed onions, and the herbaceous baby spinach. As for the other half of the pizza, it’s an extremely well executed mushroom pizza that’s been lubed up with more (yes, MOAR) truffle oil for extra pizzazz. Sure, the egg was effectively a hard baked egg, but you’ll still catch me saying “hell yeah brother” to the portobello pizza.⠀

Now, those tasty toppings wouldn’t mean jack if the pizza base was a disgrace, but believe me folks, Peperoni has one of the best pie bases in town, which cements their rightful role in the upper crust of Singapore’s pizza circuit. The dough is tremendously thin & airy, and the centre of it all is pleasurably pliant while the crust is creditably crispy with a comely char on it. Yeah, I’ll just let the picture speak for itself.⠀

Peperoni may have misspelled their brand name, but when they slide out picturesque pizzas this piquant, nobody cares fam. These big pizza pies hit your eye like the moon, and that’s amore.

This came with lemon mayo dip and Arrabbiata Sauce which went super well with the crispy calamari. A good side to share with friends too!

We customized our pizza to have the special half & half flavours of Carne (Meatballs, Bacon, Pepperoni, Mozzarella) and Burrata & Prosciutto (Burrata, Tomato Confit, Parma Ham, Rocket). Both were really good, and worth paying the higher price for the special flavours!

This combination was like a meat galore above a red sauce base, with the standard pineapple and ham on one side and the meatballs, pepperoni and bacon on the other.

It was one of those best comfort foods that I would order through Deliveroo, and while the pizzas here were at a premium price, I would really vouch that Peperoni Pizzeria served really scrumptious pizza with that crust that I absolutely would not say no to. So for those who do not like to eat the pizza crust when they go to a pizza restaurant, I would advise you not to waste the dough here and finish even the last crumb that you could find.

Pretty standard truffle fries - crispy thinly cut with detectable truffle taste - but portion was a little small for $10. Definitely would stick to their pizzas instead!

Would recommend skipping this cause wasn’t baked or mildly charred as I expected, but rather came more steamed than anything 😢😢 Maybe a saving grace was the onions maybe, but definitively not worth the price

Tried their Half & Half XXL pizza with Fruitti Di Mare (squid, prawns, venus clams, oregano) and Carne (meatballs, bacon, pepperoni, mozzarella). The former was pretty average and I guess plus points for generous servings of seafood, and the latter was a tad too dry for my liking even with the protein overload 😔😔 But don’t get me wrong, really love their pizzas here an definitely do give their Burrata & Prosciutto pizza a try! 🍕🍕 PSA: 3% cashback if you pay with a card linked to ShopBack! Really loved their Burrata & Prosciutto - generously topped with strips of parma ham, chunks of burrata cheese, tomato confit (this gave such a nice sweet tangy spin to it!) and rockets (easy hack to atas up any pizza) 🤤🤤 Also, am a fan of their XXL-sized (21") pizzas ($62 for Speciale flavours; $55 for Classico flavours) that are the perfect centrepiece to any large group gatherings! 🍕🍕PSA: 3% cashback if you pay with a card linked to ShopBack! If you like butter and garlic, you will love this to garlic bits!!! Must try!

Seemingly simple-looking dish (no filter needed!) but sooo tasty! The dish was wiped spotless and reminisced about the very next second. Although it had the chili icon on the menu, it wasn't spicy.. Maybe be aware of the chili seeds when wiping the dish clean!

The pizza was massive and delicious. Could see the fireplace where the pizza was baked. Nice open kitchen concept. Mvp was the mac and cheese. Creamy and cheesy. Truffle fries was alright. Restaurant feels homely. Overall a pleasant experience!

You see the clams. There are also squid, prawn and oregano.

I can never understand an egg that can't be shared. Apart from that, the mushrooms and truffle oil make this great.

Bacon, honey, Gouda. Bacon and honey may sound weird at first but when u think of maple glazed bacon it really isn't a surprise bacon and honey work so well together. Incredibly moreish and it's impressive how such a small amount of bacon can be so savoury
