Had a family dinner at this famous zi char restaurant to try some of their dishes and first thing you notice is that their portions are enormous. We believe their large portion can feed 8-10 people!
One of their signature got to be their Fermented Pork Belly ($30 for large portion). With a crispy crust, this succulent pieces were tender and packed with lots of umami coming from the fermented marination. Very addictive, these were delicious with their chilli sauce!
Their Crispy Chicken with Salted Egg ($30 for large portion) was also satisfying and all of them were generously coated with rich salted egg sauce that is perfect with rice! However, their chicken pieces come with small pieces of bone which was uninviting, maybe it's to show diners that they use fresh chicken 😂
Another specialty is their Seafood Mee Goreng ($20 for large portion) which was so flavourful from the chilli and tomato base and they came with quite generous portions of seafood. Their prawns were really plump and meaty, absolutely delicious.
Definitely a good place for family dinners!
We ordered a variety of dishes, and I must say we were all so impressed! Here are some of my favourites:
Fermented Pork Belly ($22 for medium size) - we were pretty shocked when the plate came in such a huge portion. This definitely can feed 6-8 people! This is one addictive dish, as the pork belly slices were not only really crispy, but tender and flavourful from the spices used. Definitely a must order here!
Salted Egg Chicken ($15 for small) - the small portion definitely isn't small, as it can feed 3-4 people! Love how saucy the dish is and the salted egg flavour is definitely pronounced!
Seafood Mee Goreng ($14 for medium) - this came generous with seafood ingredients like prawns, sliced fish and squid. A different rendition of mee goreng, this one is not spicy but have a strong tomato flavour that is really pleasant. A wonderful dish that can serve as carbs for the meal!
All in all, portions are huge and food is really good!
Crown Prince Spicy Mee Hoon 太子米粉 from @penangseafoodrestaurant !
One of my top favourite tzechar places in aljunied!
Second time ordering this! I love the beehoon! Super thin strands (it is like the putien dry beehoon)! This is similar to chaotah beehoon too (like the one from JB Ah Meng). The difference is this has 5 big prawns given (while the JB Ah Meng's version has cuttlefish and pork slices in them)!
Be sure to get the sambal chilli sauce! Goes well with the beehoon!
ordered this through grabfood, so no waiting involved! $10.70 on grabfood! Do note this is more expensive than walk in takeaway price! (if you have grabfood vouchers then it is a good deal!)
My favourite Tze Char takeaway place!
Making it a point to try at least a different dish each time I come here
🥡Sambal fried rice: my preferred fried rice for the sambal kick 🔥
🥡sliced fish hor fan: yea my family only eats sliced fish hor fan. We dislike smelly pork slices in the typical hor fan dishes haha. But sliced fish hor fan will always cost more lol
🥡 Seafood mee goreng: this was the first time we tried it. It was so good! Can order again! (mental note to myself to rmbr to ask for NO beansprouts! I thought there won't be beansprouts so didn't add the special note when ordering)
I can fondly remember the spicy and tangy assam laksa from Pasar Air Itam but since we are not able to travel there anytime soon, the assam laksa from Penang Seafood Restaurant will suffice for now. Comes with a thick and rich broth, with huge chunks of fish, this is a slurp-worthy bowl that will whet your appetite from your first bite. Another signature dish at Penang Seafood Restaurant is their lala hokkien mee, which is stir-fried to a wetter consistency. Although the wok hei might be somewhere missing in this rendition, it is still a very decent plate that you will not complain if its served to you.

Ordered this fragrance beehoon from Penang seafood restaurant! Wasn't quite sure what this item was when I saw it listed on the menu since there were no photos. Just nice, I checked out Instagram photos and saw someone recommending this. This is essentially like fried shengmian but in beehoon form. I greatly recommend this! Much easier to eat than shengmian as well as it is thinner and once soaked in the gravy you can have the less fried version too! One packet is filled with 2 prawns, many slices of pork and fishcake. The eggy gravy went well with the fried meehoon!
