Ordered the pork katsu curry.
Breadcrumbs were fried to perfection, not too greasy and pretty light tbh. Meat portion was also very reasonable for the price. The pork was tender and juicy and had a really good combination of lean meat and fat. Curry was also not too overwhelming, really complimented the rice and pork with each bite.
Really a hidden gem.
Pork Katsu? Yes please. Molten cheese? Yummy. Molten cheese oozing out of pork katsu? Hell yeah! I've been besotted with Maruhachi's pork katsu don ever since trying them last year, and its Cheese Menchi Katsu, back by popular demand for a limited time (till 30th June), are veritably vivacious.
The ๐๐ต๐ฒ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ ๐ ๐ฒ๐ป๐ฐ๐ต๐ถ ๐๐ฎ๐๐๐ ๐ฆ๐ฒ๐ ($12.90) consisted of two large globes of minced pork fried to perfection, served with a side of salad with sesame dressing. Crunchy outside and succulent inside, the pork was impeccable.
Slicing the globes apart, the cheese slowly oozed out, taking its time to make a grand entrance, like a movie star on the red carpet. The cheese's salty profile added depth to the pork's flavour. The refreshing salad also helped cut through the grease.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. @maruhachi2020 is the best katsu don hawker stall in Singapore!
The crust was understandably soggier after being drenched in egg and sauce, but letโs talk about the cut - tender, juicy and slightly fatty; I was head over heels๐ฅฐ

Cheese Menchi Katsu Curry ($10.80)
v hearty & satisfying despite having less cheese than advertised. japanese curry tends to be v sweet but i appreciated that this one wasnโt!!
Maruhachi, known for serving up affordably priced restaurant-quality tonkatsu, has recently launched their limited edition (till 30 June 2022) Cheese Menchi Katsu in celebration of their 8th and newest outlet opening in Bedok. Hereโs what we tried at their Edgefield Plains outlet:
~Cheese Menchi Katsu Curry ($10.80)
~Blackpig Katsu Set ($15.80, served with Japanese rice & miso soup)
~Special Pork Katsu Don ($12.80)
As it was my first time trying their tonkatsu, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality, despite its humble setting. Itโs comparable to those Iโve had at some Japanese restaurants before. The Blackpig Katsu was my favourite - it was crispy and pretty succulent overall! I enjoyed the Cheese Menchi Katsu Curry too, but would have enjoyed it even more if it had more cheese. They are also available on GrabFood, foodpanda and Deliveroo (selected outlets).
