Healthy and good, especially the ytf.

Hong Kong kailan, braised pork belly, curry pork ribs. Rice damn little. Very fat pork belly. I hate this veggie hahaha.

I always have a soft spot for such pork patty.

Had I known that each bowl came with a slice of ๐—ฃ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜„๐—ป ๐—–๐—ฎ๐—ธ๐—ฒ, I wouldnโ€™t have ordered one portion ($4.90) to try. Texture and taste-wise they were like fish cakes and I thought they werenโ€™t particularly noteworthy.

Still, @shiniansg is a great place for affordable Pig Trotter Rice and Iโ€™d recommend trying it if you havenโ€™t had this dish before.

I was also impressed with the ๐—ฃ๐—ถ๐—ด ๐—ง๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐˜๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—ฅ๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ฒ ($5.90), which the staff warned contained more bones than meat. Scraping the meat and tendon off the bones was surprisingly enjoyable. I felt like a lion on National Geographic.

We started with the ๐—ฃ๐—ถ๐—ด ๐—Ÿ๐—ฒ๐—ด ๐—ฅ๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ฒ ($5.90). The tender lean meat and the fatty skin, which wasnโ€™t overly oily, provided great textural contrast, while the sour preserved vegetables were delightful. The sapid gravy elevated the flavours of every component in the bowl. An excellent dish!

Pig Trotter Rice is not a dish commonly seen in Singapore, so Shi Nian must be doing something right with its rapid expansion. I have no idea how many outlets they have, but I went to the one at Kovan 209 Market.

Saw these old couple selling Lor Mee and I decided to give it a try. Wowwwโ€ฆ Very nice & delicious Shredded Chicken Lor Mee. Try it yourself. The dried shredded chicken egg noodles looks good as well! #supportlocalhawker #singaporefood๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ‘

Throwback post - Take another shot to show the portion of egg in the congee.

Uncle too generous liao ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜… . I cannot finish salted egg white since there is not much congee left.

Throwback post - Craving for porridge and that bring me to this stall. Not sure if it has changed hands but kinda remember it having a different signboard and was helmed by an aunt.

Nevertheless, I ordered Duo Egg Congee. Subtle flavor, not to the extent of being bland. Like the chunky you tiao being added as well along with the shallots and spring onion further elevate it.

Unassuming yet enjoyed every mouthful of it ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

Anthony Indonesian cuisine sells an affordable and satisfying plate of nasi padang here at kovan 209.

The have many varieties of chicken leg, from curry to green chilli to Ayam merah to rendang.

Despite passing by Chinatown Beef King multiple times, I've never once tried it. I finally decided to give it a go.

The ๐—•๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐—ณ ๐—ก๐—ผ๐—ผ๐—ฑ๐—น๐—ฒ๐˜€ ($7 for Medium) came with abundant slices of tender beef, while the thick bee hoon was smooth and slippery. Unlike other beef noodle stalls, the gravy here was peppery. It's definitely something new, but personally I prefer the traditional taste.

Anyway there's a wildly popular beef noodle stall in a kopi tiam less than five minutes' walk away. That is still one of my favourites in Singapore.

Typically I don't post about ๐˜ค๐˜ฉ๐˜ข๐˜ฑ ๐˜ค๐˜ฉ๐˜บ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ฑ๐˜ฏ๐˜จ (literally "mixed vegetables rice") because these stalls are everywhere and they offer more or less the same dishes. But Creative Home Dishes deserves special mention.

Not because my 1 meat + 3 vegetables cost $6 -- the market rate is $4 to $5 for four dishes -- but the ๐—–๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ฟ๐˜† ๐—–๐—ต๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ธ๐—ฒ๐—ป ๐——๐—ฟ๐˜‚๐—บ๐˜€๐˜๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ธ was humongous. Its length was nearly 3/4 that of my fork and its width about 3 times of said fork (swipe to 3rd photo)!

Now, economic rice is rarely mind-blowing (this one isn't), but the food at this stall is good, bordering on excellent. And $6 for a fat ass chicken drumstick + 3 vegetables is like the ๐˜จ๐˜ข๐˜ฉ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ giving you two years' worth of GST vouchers all at one go!

New year, new resolutions, same old comfort food. There are two wildly popular bak chor mee stalls (that also offer curry chicken noodles, btw) at Kovan 209 Market & Food Centre. The one in the middle aisle seems to be doing better as it occupies two adjacent stalls, but I always find myself gravitating towards Fa Ji.

The handmade bouncy fishballs were a joy to chew on, while the noodles tossed in the spicy and vinegary sauce were alluringly ambrosial. The other components -- sliced pork, minced pork, pig's liver and a single meatball -- were deftly executed as well.

Over the years, the price of a bowl of ๐— ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฐ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ ๐— ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐—ก๐—ผ๐—ผ๐—ฑ๐—น๐—ฒ๐˜€ has slowly increased from under $3 to $4, but the queue hasn't gotten any shorter, which is a testament to its enduring quality.

I donโ€™t know the price & stall name as my mom dabaos them back but this is the only min jiang kueh stall at Kovan 209 Market :D Only discovered this stall recently and now itโ€™s my Saturday breakfast staple. The mjk batter is squishy and chewy, and thereโ€™s just something addictive about that texture. Itโ€™s like Grannyโ€™s Pancakes but thinner. The red bean paste is mildly sweet, smooth and has a sweet and savoury flavour which I really like as thereโ€™s a variety of flavours going on there which makes eating exciting. The peanut one is not as fragrant, and the peanuts were soggy. It doesnโ€™t have the roasted peanut fragrance but it wasnโ€™t bad either if you love peanuts. I alternate between these two flavours one bite at a time and I felt like I was in mjk heaven.

Relatively new stall here. You pick the style for your chicken, including grill, curry and sambal. A good concept in the hands of a not-so-good cook. The cabbage and the rice especially weren't done well.

I had been wanting to try this. Quite shiok, although a bit dried up. The pork slices especially were excellent.

๐Ÿ’ธ: $3

๐Ÿ’ฌ: Woah their picture on the signboard is really a bog fucking lie because there was but the smallest portion of duck meat and instead of century egg, i was given 1/8 of a braised egg (oh how i wish i was kidding about the 1/8) &&&& fucking rude China lady who served me & got irritated when i said the wrong number while ordering

but ok all in all, if you just want smthg to slurp down, i'd say this could be an option, because the braised sauce was flavourful and tasted v comforting with warm porridge
