North Indian dinner kinda night!
I had Khansama a few evenings ago and am glad I finally tried something new: the spiced cauliflower and potatoes dish, Aloo Gobi/ Alu Gobhi ($12.50). Well-seasoned, this comforting dish marries tender potatoes and cauliflower with a blend of aromatics, cooked with onions and tomatoes. With little to no spicy kick, it was wonderfully moreish, and the medley of textures was very enjoyable.
And of course, it is not North Indian dinner if I don’t get Butter Chicken and Naan. I love Butter Chicken but I have not tried all that many as I am usually afraid of the differing spice level so for Khansama’s rendition ($19.50) it is a little spicy and more savoury than sweet. Not overly buttery and quite spice-forward (I do prefer sweeter more buttery variants so I would say this is more balanced and not too cloying). The chicken chunks were tender and flavourful, perfect with their warm and fragrant Garlic Butter Naan ($4.50). Overall, it was pricey for the portion but the items we tried were tasty and boldly seasoned.
The design of the menu needs some work. There's 3 possible places this could have came up, and weirdly enough it's not in the biryani part. Even the waiter couldn't find it on the menu, we found it ourselves later knowing that it has to be there(think it's under mutton dishes)
Pretty good, mutton was tender and doesn't have much gaminess
Solid rendition, creamy and prominent but not overwhelming tomato taste. Ckn was tender too
Better CFM w the waiter, we only intended to order one
Not too shabby, but it will lose its crisp in the Aircon room
I don't wanna sound insensitive, but they don't actually taste that different. I'm glad there's some burnt parts, it's quite crispy and the texture was tender enough. It's very salty though, that's quite a problem, maybe they brined the ckn that's why
They are probably not the best Indian restaurant lol. It's decent but not fantastic
This was v strong w the yoghurt taste. It almost doesn't make sense that it's liquid. I wish for the mango taste to be stronger, and despite the small looking glass I kept diluting the drink w water lol else it's abit too authentic for me(too thick)
Seems to be popular with the tourists. Thankfully still authentic. Huge menu! Might return to try the other stuff.
Flavorful food. Right quantity. Chicken was soft and tender.
Spinach was a little spicy preparation, but chef was okay to make less spicy.
A little high on the price, and that was the only negative.
Location easy to find on Google maps, little India.
4 on 5 for me.
For two people we ordered Chicken 65, Saffron Rice, Chili Chicken, Cheese Naan, and two Tiger beers. Spicy, without being overwhelming. S$65. Service was attentive and prompt. Would recommend and would return. 4/5 stars.
Result is the explosion of heart & belly-warming flavours bringing souls to the new world. If you believe in past life then trust that I always think I've been reincarnated into the wrong family, should've been born Indian since that's my all-time favourite cuisine (followed by Mexican) - but man are they expensive.
friday, bring on the colors and let the never ending work be "naan"!

sightseeing tours can be so yesterday right? how about an uniquely singapore culinary tour! combining satisfying food centric tours and fuelled by a delectable experience by the good folks at @cravesingapore!
.
a throwback to last sunday @cravesingapore's spice trail at little india where we gad the streets of little india, explored tekka wet market, savored sweet indian treats and indulged in an authentic north indian cuisine at khansama. gosh, you have to got to try palak paneer ($12.50) - a north Indian curry mixture of pureed palak (spinach), tomato, gravy sauce, paneer (cottage cheese) and god know how many spices went in there. also, the butter chicken ($14.50) is to die for.
a @burpple invite. discover the lesser known side of singapore at http://cravesingapore.com now
That everyone, is some amazing Teh Tarik, one of the best ones I've had! It was so smooth with a precise balance of tea and milk, not too sweet but extremely soothing that it keeps you going for seconds. And maybe even thirds and fourths. Who cares about the calories anymore! 😍
It was fun learning about the history, taking in all the sights and sounds, and of course, food! With traditional sweet treats from Komala Vilas created from different permutations of basic ingredients (my favourite has got to be Kalakand - of paneer and milk) and lunch at Khansama (hits and missed but I loved the tehtarik and spiced papadum) #cravesgtours managed to make me feel like a tourist, again.
Just want thosai a huge thank you @cravesingapore and Edwin for the informative tour and #burpple for the invite!
Crave! Tour Part II led us around Little India for a Spice Tour! 🏃🏻 Learned a lot more about the Indian cuisine and history of Little India, sampled popular sweet snacks and had lunch at Khansama which serves one of THE BEST TEH TARIK I've had in a long while (it had us ordering second and even third servings)! ☕️
Thank you @cravesingapore and Edwin for bringing us around on the learning journey and @burpple for the kind invite! 🙆🏻 #CraveSG #CraveSGTours
I have discovered chicken tikka nirvana and it resides at 166 Serangoon Road. This sounds especially unbelievable coming from me because I am someone who has never understood the appeal of chicken tikka, let alone rave about it. But here I am, doing exactly that. Which should say plenty about the food.
The platter we ordered contained six types of boneless chicken pieces that had been marinated with different combinations of rare spices, lime juice plus either yogurt, or a mild cashew nut and cream paste. After which, they were baked in a "tandoor" or clay oven. Regardless of the marinade used, every single piece of chicken tasted absolutely PHENOMENAL! They were super tender and more importantly, really moist (now, this was the part that most impressed me because I have only ever had dryish to dry renditions elsewhere). Furthermore, thanks to the assorted marinades, each of the chicken tikka pieces quietly exploded in my mouth, showering its own unique firework of mildly-spiced flavours. Wow. Wow. Wow.
This restaurant is famous for its butter chicken which is quite possibly the most delicious sauce I’ve ever had (I have dipped naan in huzbo’s before!). Absolutely gorgeous, just looking at this photo makes me hungry.

And so they say the best showcase of a culture is in its food, this restaurant has been nominated by Doug’s North Indian ex-boss, as the cuisine closest to the authentic taste of his hometown.
.
For starters, always get something barbecued, easy to eat, to begin the meal experience. A tikka will do the trick. We had half a chicken tandoori ($14). The chicken is tender, pleasantly marinated in a concoction of spices that coat the pieces and sets this apart from your casual grill.
.
Now enter the naan. Soft and fluffy, the naan ($3.50) is easily torn into bite-sized pieces, easy to savour if you enjoy that freshly baked texture with a little steam coming from the bread.
.
Now for the perennial favourite, the butter chicken ($14.50). The primary use of this dish is for dipping your naan, to soak up all the goodness (or unhealthiness😅) of the butter curry. Chicken is tender, flavourful, and comes in little morsels best eaten with the naan. Just a light heat, this is less spicy compared to the tandoori but the curry gravy is heavenly, and with a good hit from the spices.
.
Chicken dum Briyani ($12.50) topped off our meal. The long grain rice is extremely fragrant with cardamom seeds and anise star delighting the senses, definitely one of the most fragrant chicken briyani around. Chicken pieces are generous, fragrant, and will definitely keep you wanting more!
.
Washing down all the lovely culture in the meal is a cup of Teh Halia ($3). Ginger infused milk tea, this gives a soothing heat that goes down well with all the spicy food.
Ready for your immersion yet? 😏

We tell people we want them to try the awesome food but really it’s so we get to eat the awesome food. This photo is from earlier this month when we took my parents. As always we massively over ordered as we got carried away! This time I had the Saag Paneer and the waiter persuaded me to have a Daal Tadka as well...”persuaded”...I never have flavoured rices as I feel it’s unnecessary and distracts from the curry, so I have just have mine white steamed. Oh and I had to have some of their incred spicy popadoms too...🐽🐷🐽🐷🐽 #indianfood #vegetarian #veggie #veggiefood #khansama #saagpaneer #popadoms #littleindia
Very yumz butter chicken on garlic naan 😋 against the backdrop of beautiful street lightings 🎆
