Got the Herbal Seafood Batang($8) and Sliced Batang Fish Soup($6) Add XO($0.50).

Herbal soup was not bad. Had a sweet herbal-y taste which became stronger nearing the end. There were prawns, meatball, fish and a tomato. Fish was not overly cooked. Meatball was not bad.

Sliced Batang Fish Soup with XO was ok. Not as nice as the herbal one but I like that there were cabbage, egg floss and ginger in it.

Overall not too bad.

We came across this shop at the Old Airport Road Hawker Centre, which is really hard to miss given it's blue signboards! As the stall highlighted their their seafood herbal soup is a must-try, we decided to get the $7 portion and added on another 50 cents for the 粗米粉.

However, we were surprised by how small the $7 portion is, given that there were smaller sizes of $5 and $6 - there were only 2 prawns and 4 meatballs and some batang fish 😅 We initially wanted to share the $7 portion between the two of us but we had to get something else as it was just not enough...

While the dish was supposed to have herbal soup as the base, the taste of herbs in the soup was not evident. However, one can tell that the soup base has been simmered in seafood for quite a while as it is slightly sweet, likely due to the prawns. The remaining ingredients were pretty standard, but they were cooked well.

We will probably not get the herbal seafood soup next time, but try the other items on the menu, such as their fried fish bee hoon, since the uncle mentioned that the fried fish was sold out.

We recently had the opportunity to try both the Chinese Spinach Seafood Soup with Wolfberries & Herbal Seafood Soup from Jun Yuan House of Fish located at Old Airport Road Food Centre.

The soup base for Chinese Spinach Seafood Soup with Wolfberries is boiled for 6 hours with pork and fish bones while soup broth for the Herbal Seafood Soup is mixed with stir fried prawn and the other seafood with dried fish. The former had a lighter more comforting homely taste while the latter had a richer and more flavourful taste integrated with the seafood and herbs; both soups were delicious and appealed to us in different ways.

Currently run by 2nd Gen hawkerpreneurs, Jun Yuan House of Fish is one of the more underrated seafood soup stalls around and they definitely deserve more recognition for their excellent seafood soups, so hurry come down and try!

It's not everyday we look back & appreciate the work of the culinary heroes championing this trade behind the scenes.

Here supporting another young Singaporean hawker's passion amidst the hustle bustle of our favourite old airport food centre. Tucked along near the middle section is one brightly lighted blue signboard stall selling this traditional Teo Chew fish soup.
.
This humble bowl comes with two fresh large prawns, a couple of tender minced meat balls & some optimally sliced Batang (mackerel) fish that were silky smooth, succulent & firm to bite. I also personally like that the soup dashed with hint of Chinese wine wasn't the full-bodied kind & was refreshingly light - opted for the addition of milk which accents the flavour of the broth but doesn't overpower it. It was a terribly warm evening when I visited yesterday, but this nevertheless remained comforting for both the body & soul.
.
The life of any hawker is tedious, with long working hours, sweltering heat & sometimes annoying business challenges. Yet I see a promising future at this stall engineered by 24 year old young hawker Jason & his friend (same age as me, what am I doing with my life?) Some of their signatures include red grouper fish soup as well. Do bookmark this & support next time you guys are at old airport yeah?
.
P.S. At times like this I feel like I write with passion but seriously this was totally not sponsored 😂 Good food coupled with warm service just always make me super happy. Thank you.

Overloaded with fish which are so fresh and the soup base is 👍The best part is having Tau Cheo (soy bean paste) sauce to dip my fishes. I love having hot soup on a cold rainy afternoon 😊 》$5 + $0.50 Rice
