Whenever u read a list of Top 5, top 10, top 12 list of teochew porridge, Joo Seng Teochew Porridge will always be in it. Google reviews though, has not been very kind to them, with a 3.5 rating only(mostly due to the staff)
As it has been raining over this pass CNY long weekend, it was also raining tonight, weather so cold, walk pass a teochew porridge place, like the best combination for a late dinner.
Place was still rather pack at 8.30pm, way pass dinner time.
-Braised duck was rather good, it wasn't hard or dry, and the sauce was rather thick and flavourful
- Braised pork was quite good, but was a little upset that it was almost 70% fats for each piece I ate.
- Cai Po Omelette was my favourite dish today. Although it was cold, it was flavourful.
- hae bi hiam, cabbage were just fillers, nothing really fantastic
- Fried small fish(Anchovies) were rather terrible, its texture was like " Lao Hong", like stale chips that have been opened for the entire day and has lost its crispiness.
Overall though, it was still a rather good teochew porridge. It is expensive here too.
Joo Seng Teochew Porridge opens till 4am daily. So it's a great supper spot if u feeling hungry at 2am in the morning.
Total Price: $21 including 1 Coca Cola
Ordered some braised duck, celery, lala and tau pok for our late night meal to go with porridge. We just couldn't resist their braised items like braised duck and tau pok as they are always rich in flavour and goes very well with porridge.
The braised duck was soft, tender and it is particularly good with their rich and fragrant braised sauce. I liked that the tau pok braised with a distinct herbal taste - simply tasty. We also love the fresh lala that comes with some spicy flavours to add some punch to our meal.
Price varies with the choices of dishes ordered. Our meal came up to $19.30 with three bowls of porridge.
Joo Seng Teochew Porrisge! Fun fact: I used to stay at Joo Seng! 😅
Have been eyeing this teochew porridge for a long long time and decided to make a visit after green corridor walk (from buona vista to beauty world)! This portion for 4 pax (with 3 drinks) amounted to $42.9! Not sure about the breakdown because teochew porridge don't give you the details (one thing that I don't really like about visiting these teochew porridge places. Lol and these place was weird they insisted that we paid for the meal AFTER eating. Making us wonder throughout the meal how much the meal will cost 🤦🏻♀️). It is like atas caifan. Comforting food to eat though: Chye por egg, otah, fishcake, meatballs, braised duck (the braised duck is a MUST get here). The taupok, fried silverfish and braised cabbage were all requested by my dining companions, I won't usually order these items 😄
After reading some articles, I decided to go Joo Seng.
Ordered their signature braised duck leg, which is very tender and pair with their garlic chilli 😋.
The lala also good, but the Intestine a bit salty although it's clean.
Any suggestions for teochew porridge?
💰$30.4 (plus 2 drinks and salted egg not in the photo).

Haven’t been to Joo Seng in a while! Food was still as comforting as we remember, but somehow it seemed to be much pricier. Get their tender braised duck if you’re here, it serves as a good pairing with the porridge. We also like the thoroughly braised beancurd!
Swung by for a late dinner on a rainy day! This Teochew porridge is a perennial favourite and a good choice any time. We had braised duck, cui rou, qing cai and tau kee with two bowls of porridge ($17.20 for two). Love the traditional style of cooking and the strong flavours that are balanced by the warm watery rice. Portion was really filling!! #oldisgold
