Nice. Pretty too.
Savoury. Can even be called salty. Interesting.
Bakery with atas-looking bread. This is essentially a brown sugar bun. Very cool. Tasted atas too.
Feel like a kid in a toy stall on Christmas eve.
Every Bread looks so good. Maybe becoz I am sick of seeing the same breads in all those bakery chains all over Singapore.
So spoilt for choices, I end up taking all those that I can't leave without.
Bread shops were competitive at the basement of Great World. Among them, Gokoku Shichifuku was a brand that was brought in by RE&S Group (the same group that owned Ichiban Boshi). With a wide selection of bread and baked buns with fillings, bread lovers would find it difficult not to take a second look, especially when they could earn loyalty e-stamps with every S$20.00 spent.
Of course, the Signature Hokkaido Red Bean Anpan (S$2.40) was a mandatory purchase for me because the red bean paste was perfectly sweet with many red beans that could be nibbled with every bite. What was surprisingly good was that the bread was also very soft and fluffy, so it would probably also be a hit among young children because they could also easily eat this bread. I mean, don’t we all reminisce a nice Anpan from a Japanese bakery during our childhood?
Tbh this tasted quite similar to pullman’s an pan on first bite, but with a bit more fragrant bread. Their red bean filling is great, it’s the Japanese bakery type of red bean filling (similar to what u get at other Japanese bakeries), I find that it tastes lighter compared to local bakeries, but still tasty.
Did a side by side comparison of this & pullman’s (just so happen to get both their an pans on the same day) and I think gokoku’s edges out pullman’s by a smalll margin but both are great! This is $2.40 while pullman’s is $1.30 so I guess it rly depends on whether you’re willing to pay a $0.90 premium or not + convenience.
