Yummy! The udon was of good quality and quite qq, better than the average udon which doesn’t have as nice a bite to it. The soup was clear and light, and the burdock tempura was good too - crisp and the thin strips of burdock had a pleasant fibrousy texture, but was still very easy to eat. It was a little oily tho, but thankfully it didn’t leave a greasy aftertaste.
The self-add-on toppings like shredded seaweed, spring onions, chili powder, and tempura bits was a nice touch, this way you can customise the type and amount of topping to your liking. I didn’t try the tempura bits but it looked quite crisp.
Come before 11.45 or else the queues may get quite long!
Hidden gem serving yummy chewy, springy udon that you can choose to be served w hot/cold dipping sauce. The fishcake was so good too. Will be back!
The udon was very enjoyable because of its smooth and chewy texture! The soup was clear and flavourful and I mixed in some chilli powder for good measure.

It’s a good choice when having lunch with Muslim colleagues. Came at 12 noon on a Monday but the crowd seems to be quite small. There’s empty seats and didn’t wait long for the food. I was slightly dissolved with my onsen egg though, it was tad too cooked. As compared to other kiseki ventures this is probably one of the not so good ones.
Halal-certified udon joint in the heart of the CBD!
In the “The Basement”, a newly renovated F&B and shopping space in the Hong Leong Building, houses Chef Teppei Yamashita’s latest concept, Fu-Men.
Fu-Men prides itself in being a halal-certified establishment and also for Fukuoka cuisine as it serves Hakata udon. Hakata udon is thinner than sanuki udon (think Tamoya, Marugame) and less chewy.
I had the premium beef udon, $15 (or $8.50 for half a bowl) and what I loved about it was the clear broth that was light and less salty. The broth was made with light soy sauce, flying fish, dried anchovies, dried bonito and kelp.
It is indeed a tad pricey but for being right smack in the CBD, it’s pretty reasonable.
Another new restaurant here at the basement of Hong Leong Building. Chef Teppei Yamashita opened another venture here with udon specialised restaurant. Serving up Hakata-style udon from Fukuoka.
Gobo Ten Udon is one of their signature item, topped with Burdock Tempura with udon soup base. Personally I would recommend you to get a side dish to complete your meal here. $12+
This is Hakata style, so the noodles are softer and thinner than what we are familiar with - the Sanuki style.
I actually found myself liking the burdock root Tempura. Just that the wait of 30 min - after sitting down, was too long for CBD.

Burdock so good!! Never imagined a walking stick-looking root vegetable can taste this good! You can help yourself to the different types of condiments available so for this I added just a pinch of yuzu chili. The broth became slightly spicy and was a hearty bowl of lunch for me!
From the Teppei Group, this newly opened udon place is a hidden gem. When I was there before the lunch crowd, I got to really enjoy the udon in a super quiet environment with Jap pop music in the background. Udon was not the usual IMO, very wholesome and springy. Broth was slightly sweet-salty yet clean tasting on the palate and slurp worthy! Fishcake was not bad. Overall a 8/10. Price: Half bowl at $7, Onsen egg additional $2 (not including GST.)
Offer a variety of ingredients and types of udon (with soup, dry, with sauce) and even half or full bowl, which is so hard to decide every time so I had 2 half bowl twice to make sure I can try everything! Ranges from $5 to $8 for half bowl, i tried deep fried burdock, shrimp and yam and likes most of them. The udon is a warm and comforting with light broth. Even for deep fried ingredients like burdock, it is not too heavy which is great. Should visit when you wanna have something warm and light.
The only ingredient i dont really enjoy is the yam one which tastes a bit too raw for me and not sticky enough as expected.
Ontama Gobo Udon
Comforting bowl of udon... smooth, chewy noodles with a light flavored broth and a mountain of crispy gobo tempura.
Ontama Bukkake Udon
Chef Teppei Yamashita latest concept which specialise in Fukuoka "Hakata udon". Really good at affordable price.
I have been having Fu-Men's stamina bukkake udon (yes, that's what they call it don't laugh) on a weekly basis since I started squatting in RP.
Bukkake udon is essentially a dry cold udon with a cold dashi based broth splashed onto it (think Japanese bak chor Mee). Fu-Men's stamina udon has minced chicken and beef, sliced beef and beef tendons topped onto it.
It's yummy and tasty. A little expensive at nearly $16 per bowl but it's nearby, comfortable with aircon and has loads of sitting areas so I ain't complaining!

Located deep in the bowels of the basement of Hong Leong Building is a little udon shop that serves Hakata-style udon from Fukuoka.
The udon here are thick with a nice bite, and yet soft, tender and slurp-worthy. I like that the broth for their tempura udon was light yet savoury. Their chicken tempura was juicy and tender, way better than some of the joints which purportedly specialises in tempura.
We also enjoyed their signature mazesoba known as "muscle soba". The gravy coating the udon was really addictive but I personally prefer the tempura udon!

I love the texture of udon and can eat it almost every day I think.

Tucked in the corner of The Basement, a pretty good place for lunch because they offer half bowls (no food coma! Or for the usual hungry people you can get variety of two half bowls🤷🏻♀️) and it’s actually pretty quiet without the hectic lunch crowd (but ok it could be because we had a late lunch).
Thinner-than-usual udon with very comforting clean-tasting broth! Got the half portion with prawn tempura. I had expected a more lightly battered prawn tempura so this was decent but not outstanding - it remained crisp till the end of my meal!
Also added $6 for the Goboten, burdock root tempura, which was pretty good with a light earthy flavour, but I wish they’d extend the half portion option to this add-on too. It’s probably sufficient for 2pax to share.
Lunch buddy got the stamina bowl, ($14+), with a very generous amount of minced beef (manageable spiciness), beef tendon and a runny egg.
