More Reviews of good food at Chuan Kee Seafood (Lower Delta)

Went to Chuan Kee Seafood last week and ordered their Assam Steamed Fish, Chilli Crab (1kg), Sambal Kangkong, Sambal Sotong, Other Fried Mixed Vegetables, Har Cheong Gai Chicken, and Fresh Oysters😇 Total bill was about $270 for 5 pax!

Overall ratings 8/10! Food was good but crab was not very fresh☹️ Would head back again for the Assam Steamed Fish💯

Egg was average cos floury, I didn't have the oysters.

Their free soy beancurd dessert was pretty good

They didn't have signature tofu and sifang tofu on the same day, quite ridiculous.

This was decent though, the spices were surprisingly somewhat perceptible and the minced meat was generous enough

Not authentic obviously but it's a passable rendition

Fresh grouper, quite ex for the portion, but this was a solid version. The curry was satisfying and thick enough, veggies were cooked well and the fish was well cooked

Solid, recommended. Just annoyed that they didn't have Assam sauce that day

Good portion, this is a very good version. The sambal has enough umami, is sweet and there's heat. Veggies were cooked well, petai wasn't too smelly, and the ikan bilis was very crispy.

Recommended

No more char kway teow mee

Quite a good portion, feeds 5 easily because it's quite filling despite the portion

The sauce was nice, seafood was quite generous, and the yellow noodles were decent

So overall a v good mee goreng

Went to Chuan Kee Seafood last week and ordered their Four Heaven King Vegetables ($10), Grouper Fish Assam Steamed ($48), Oatmeal Prawns ($22), and 2 Bamboo Clams (~$20)!😇

Overall ratings 10/10!! All the dishes were fresh and we were served very quickly too😍 Would definitely head back again to try other items hehe

Decent Tze char in industrial estate. Packed during dinner time. Prices were reasonable.

There’s complimentary popcorn, beancurd and ice cream station for every dining patron.

Mee goreng was yummy, not overly sweet with nice touch of spice, doneness of noodles just right, not too soft with some texture. Pork ribs on the other hand was tad too sweet for my liking.

The tasty assam fish sauce was just slightly spicy and not too oily. I would’ve preferred a more generous serving of vegetables though.

They also serve complimentary popcorn & ice cream.

Served in a pineapple. Large bite sized tender chicken pieces won't pineapple chunks and vegetables

Had family dinner at this Zi Char within the Henderson industrial estate.

In the picture:
Steamed Lala
Salt and pepper toufu
Fried dragon vegetables
Fish steamboat

We also had one fried radish omelette, marmite chicken and 2 crabs (salted egg yolk and black pepper)

Total bill came up to $300 for 12 of us. Pretty worth it imo. The crabs are tasty and fresh and we had a whole grouper in the steamboat with a very hearty and tasty broth.

🚘 free parking when I was there on a weekday night!

Had chilli crab with man tow, char siew, coffee ribs and curry fish head here today. The chilli crab is quite spicy compared with those I had before, but there is a lot of meat from the crab (and we even got to choose the crab we want). The coffee ribs is quite flavourful but not overwhelming.

A bit disappointed about the char siew as it is quite fat but I understood that ours is the last plate so probably there is no choice. Wish the deep fried man tou is more crispy too as it is a bit soft.

$104.5 in total which is still quite reasonable.

This “char siew” was nothing short of incredible. Fantastically smoky and beautifully caramelised, it’s also melt-in-the-mouth tender as a fatty cut of pork was used.
Although I‘ve geotagged this as “Chuan Kee Seafood”, it is actually from a roast meats stall a couple of units away from the “Chuan Kee Seafood” stall (both are located in the same canteen of an old light industrial building estate). You need to go in the day time if you want to have it by itself. But if you are heading over in the evening to “Chuan Kee” for “zi char”, you can call ahead and ask their staff to help you reserve a portion (I learned this tip from Burpple Tastemaker @blueskiescottonclouds).
Pictured above is a $10 serving. I think it’s enough for: 1 x hardcore protein-lover, 2 x hungry friends (or a couple), 3 x individuals who like pork or 4 x curious folks who are looking to taste the “char siew”.

Kids loved this. The version here is different from the ones in Malaysia. Still it holds its own well.

Family loved them as much as I do. Thank you for accommodating my request

Claypot Ee Mian! This comes with a runny yolk and chock full of vegetables. There’s also prawns 🦐 and clams. #feedthetheme

Disappointing experience

The good reviews about Chuan kee led me to check out this place with much anticipation.

The Assam fishhead was so small and bony and being only half a head ( and almost no flesh from the body) - it was not even sufficient to feed one person . The accompanied vegetables of ladies fingers were so sparse , they looked more like garnishes. The sauce - though has a sour kick - was sticky from the use of cornstarch to thicken the sauce . Worse still - I felt extremely thirsty after my meal .

The spinach with crabmeat sauce was equally bad . Very “ old “ spinach and almost no crabmeat present in the sauce . Just a pile of vegetables covered with an egg and cornstarch gravy.

The homemade spinach egg and toufu beancurd with mushrooms was probably the “ best “ dish but not memorable either. It didn’t quite have any element of surprise being said that it was homemade .

Coming to the last dish which was the fried kwey Teow dish . It was perhaps the dish that made me take a second mouthful. However , it was neither like a traditional char kwey Teow Nor a Mee goreng -it tasted like a bit of each .

For the quality of food , the bill was not justifiable .

Hope this post would help some of you to save some calories and $$$$.

Tried both the white pepper and black pepper versions and most of us preferred the white one as it was spicier and had more kick!

More so when the boss goes and fries it himself. A special order as this is not in their menu. Thanks so much!

One of the better egg yolk thingy I've eaten so far. This is definitely not the too wet nor dry ones. You can really taste the yolk and the ribs are very meaty, tender and tasty. Yummy yummy yum yum.
