Zi Char
$90 for a crab which can be shared by 3-4 person, the chili sauce is not bad and the crab comes with a lot of meat. We ordered the salted egg one too but most of us find the chili sauce one is better.
The cereal prawn is fine while the La La is disappointing - don’t feel like its fresh la la and it is very salty & spicy.
The good thing for having zi char here is we manage to eat the five star hainanese chicken rice too at Sin Hoi Sai (you can order for take away and have it at Sin Hoi Sai) which is very tender and juicy. $50 for one chicken and Har Cheong Gai which is good.
Service is a bit slow so better order everything in one shot.
Had chilli crab with man tow, char siew, coffee ribs and curry fish head here today. The chilli crab is quite spicy compared with those I had before, but there is a lot of meat from the crab (and we even got to choose the crab we want). The coffee ribs is quite flavourful but not overwhelming.
A bit disappointed about the char siew as it is quite fat but I understood that ours is the last plate so probably there is no choice. Wish the deep fried man tou is more crispy too as it is a bit soft.
$104.5 in total which is still quite reasonable.
Had US angus beef rib eye (600g, $84), small har cheong kai ($15), small salted egg squid ($16) and fried baby kailan (small, $8). Were surprised when we saw the fried rice that comes together with the beef but unfortunately it tastes a bit burnt. The beef is tender but was cut into small pieces - i wish i could have a bigger piece! The har cheong kai is done very nicely - with crispy skin and juicy texture, i think it is a must to be ordered! Don’t particularly enjoy the salted egg squid as we think the sauce is too thick. Roughly $37 for each, definitely not the cheapest zi char but is quite reasonable considering the quality.
Had this last night to be shared by 4, with fried mee hoon, fish soup, curry fish head, stir fry lala, a veg and a salted egg prawn (which is always the last dish to be served so not included in the photo. Everything is nice especially the fried mee hoon. Around $30 per person. Feeling a bit thirty though after the dinner.
Was too full when we ordered so only ordered asam laksa and lala hokkien mee. The asam laksa’s soup is so much thicker than expected that it looks like a sauce rather than soup. The lala hokkien mee is very tasty with wokhei! Be prepared to wait for dishes during Sunday - we waited for these two dishes for more than half hour...
Was recommended to try this so we had a pretty high expectation on this. We waited for nearly half hour for the dish and it turns out to be so-so only. We were expecting something thicker and with a stronger taste of salted egg. This goes well with rice but not what we were expecting though.
Had only 2 crabs with chili sauce plus small mantou ($2 for 6 pieces) And its very satisfying for both of us! The portion is just right for us and the sauce is not too spicy but still very tasty. Recommend!
Had butter ribs ($8) and drunken cockels ($7) and it tastes so good. The butter ribs is both sweet and salty at the same time while the drunken cockels is fresh. Recommend to come at around 6pm as queue starts to be long from 6:45pm.
Three of us went to this restaurant and we ordered too much for our dinner! We picked coffee rib, salted egg crab, cereal prawn and one veg but that's definitely too much for me even we picked small for all food. The food are all strong in taste but should be good if you eat them with rice.
The sweet and sour pork ($26) was not bad, very crispy and not too sour, but a bit pricey for this portion. The other dishes are alright, nothing particularly outstanding though.
We came at around 7pm and waited for half hour for the seat. We ordered the dishes and wait for another half hour for the dish. Had their signature dishes such as char bee hoon and salty egg prawn etc. The dishes are nice and tasty. Better come in a group and be prepared to wait...
