Shiok. We let the boss decide our bkt, and he threw together a big pot for us. It was like an endless pit of goodies. We had ribs, pork belly and pork leg, but we also added pork muscle, which was a life-changing recommendation.
Original Herbal Bak Kut Teh (RM20)
I liked how we are able to customize and pick ingredients we like. Intestines were quite clean - minimal to no porky taste. Broth was flavorful, comforting and not too heavy

Apparently one of the most popular and oldest BKT joints in Johor, having existed for 50 years! Sadly the bak kut teh broth was a disappointment - not as herbal or flavourful as I would’ve liked it to be. But the meat was juicy & tender, especially the pork belly. I think I’ll stick with my Klang BKT.

A chance encounter with this little bak kut teh shop that has retained all its old-school charm, serving herbal bak kut teh fired over charcoal. We were conservative with our orders at first, but we ended up ordering everything they had on their lean menu cos we loved it. Makes for a good quiet breakfast at this quaint corner of JB.

Diced chicken braised with ginger and sesame oil in claypot. The fragance of sesame oil is swarming into my nose when served onto the table!

OMG!! Such big and thick slices of pig kidney braised in claypot. Super soft and and full of flavour!

Tucked in a sleepy corner of the street in Johor, Hwa Mei gets excessively busy in the late morning. Everything really hits the mark at this charcoal-fired joint but make sure you don’t leave without ordering the pigs skin. That really is exceptional.
Chicken was braised with black sauce and sesame oil to give the nice sesame fragance. Chicken was tender and the black sauce was slightly on the sweeter side. Not my favourite from this stall but this was a nice to have apart from the usual order.
A different type of BKT as compared to those peppery type from SG. Huge pot for sharing comes with lots of pork ribs cut into small pieces to ease the eating. Topped it off with intestine, enoki mushroom and fried beancurd skin. Love that the soup is sweet and light!
