Much has been written about this place so I will not delve or explain much, except that you should head down and get your hands (and tummy) on a plate. The gooey mess of a mountain topped with pork cutlet, fried egg, ngor hiang and cabbage is a recipe for food coma. Nothing fanciful or boujee, just simple, honest and ugly delicious food done right that is just oh-so-comforting.

Most probably can't make up what this plate of messy goodness consists of, but it's this mess itself that makes curry rice so darn attractive. I ordered 4 different ingredients: pork belly, pork cutlet, fried egg and stir fried cabbage and it costed me $6.30. I feel like the pork belly is a must get, as its so well braised due to its tender and flavourful meat! Love how they scooped many different kind of sauces into my plate, soaking every grain of rice with the wonderful curry sauce! Only one word needed to describe this: shiok!

Heard and read so many good reviews on this place, and is usually listed among the best hainan curry rice in SG.

The curry served here was a mixtures of a few gravy/sauces which they lump on your plate, it certainly looks very ugly and messy.

Overall for me though, Sadly, I felt the curry to be very bland and not at all spicy dispute a layer of chilli inside their "layers"

Maybe they having an off day, will Try again in the near future.

Looked ugly but tasted so yummy 😋

A messy plate of rice coated generously with their special curry sauce. Their curry sauce is a mixture of four different sauces - chilli sauce, chilli oil, braised gravy, and curry. The curry gravy is smooth, thick and sticky with a mild spice level.

I got myself chap chye, tau pok, bean sprouts and fish cake. The chap chye was soft and well seasoned while the tau pok is soaked with braised sauce and coated with the curry sauce that makes it so good. The beansprouts together with cubes of tau kwa added more crunch and texture to my plate. The fish cake tasted very normal, not the bouncy type.

Beach Road Scissor-Cut Curry Rice has always been my go-to comfort food as this is one of my family’s favourite dinner/supper spots ever since I was a kid.

We ordered braised pork belly, curry chicken wings, cabbage and ngoh hiang for 3 pax and it costs $21.40, which is pretty reasonable given the generous portion. One thing to note is that the curry is barely spicy, so if you are looking for a fiery kick, this probably will not work for you. Having said that, the combination of thick curry and braised sauce is delicious, with a slight sweet undertone that complements the flavours. It is a sloppy mess when ladled over a plate of rice, but this is one tasty mess.

The braised pork belly is not the kind that melts in your mouth, but there is a good meat-to-fat ratio and the savoury dark sauce complements the curry. The chicken wings are stewed in a rich and aromatic curry sauce till they are fall-off-the-bone tender. The cabbage is very soft and sweet - this is actually one of my favourite dishes and we always order double portion of this. As for the ngoh hiang, it is not crispy at all but that does not bother me as the pork filling is well-seasoned and it goes well with the curry.

It’s kind of weird because the different components are rather ordinary on their own but it tastes really good when you throw everything together and drench it in that thick curry and braised sauce. Simple pleasures in life👍🏻
