I am in love! The nian gao waffle really exceeded my expectations - it’s the usual crispy and fluffy waffle, but with a sticky, chewy inner layer of nian gao on the inside. It really added another dimension to the waffles game. I remember my first bite into it like it was yesterday - I literally exclaimed “mmmm!” out loud. 🤭 Maybe I’m biased because I personally love nian gao.
I think it’s really important to eat it hot and crispy because towards the end, as the waffles got cold, it became slightly softer and didn’t pack the same punch as its initial impression.

Ice cream was good too. We got the tea flavours - Tie Guan Yin & Honey Camomile, which went wonderfully with the sweet nian gao. Both flavours were very fragrant and not too sweet, and its creaminess to top it all was perfect for us.

Would recommend this place for anyone that loves nian gao, or want to try a different type of waffle. And yes, I would be back again to try their other ice cream flavours! They have quite the plethora of tea flavours as compared to the usual gelato shop, to our delight.

We visited in the late afternoon, right before dinner time, so it was relatively quiet. I’d expect the place to be quite busy during peak periods, as it’s situated literally right beside NEX / Serangoon MRT, making it such an accessible location.

I liked this very much! It’s a mix of the traditional flavours and the modern. The waffles were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The Nian Gao is quite sweet and adds great texture to the waffles, although it does not have a powerful distinct taste. The osmanthus oolong ice cream has a strong oolong tea flavour (not overwhelming) while the honey chamomile has a slightly herbal flavour. The ice cream flavours are unique and will definitely appeal to anyone looking for something pleasantly different.

Though my first love will always be mochi waffles, The Better Scoop’s Nian Gao Waffle ($6.80) was bangin’! Much softer than I imagined, the glutinous rice cake embedded within had a tender chewy bite and a very pleasant sweetness as well as flavour which sets it apart from the typical mild-tasting mochi center. I also like that the Nian Gao was well-spread throughout the entire waffle and offered a wonderful textural contrast to the airy, light cooked batter. Areas not touched by the ice cream were amazingly crisp and it didn’t feel all that cloying due to the fluffiness of the warm waffle layer. Oh and let’s not forget the Tie Guan Yin/ Iron Buddha Tea ice cream ($4.20/ single scoop) I got. Like a light milk tea in ice cream form, the flavour was very complementary to the waffle and had a distinct earthy taste. Well-rounded with the milky notes, the taste of the tea was delicate yet aromatic - great to have even after a heavy meal. The texture was creamy and smooth as well.

Interesting chewy niangao waffle, slightly overhyped... but nevertheless still a satisfying sweet treat! Tried honey chamomile blue pea & osmanthus oolong ice cream, will return for more😌

uniqueness 10/10 for the waffle plus it was soo yummy! it has a slight chew, was not overly sweet - an unexpected great combi with the crispy waffle! tried the honey chamomile blue pea + osmanthus oolong flavours of the ice cream both were so fragrant and a will-order-again for me!
