More Reviews of good food at Sumo Big Prawn Noodle (Ang Mo Kio 628 Market)

When you think of Sumo prawn mee you think of big prawns. But you may forget their other quirk - they don't have dry version. I'm not sure is it principle or lazy. Did the soup live up to it? It didn't make my list of the greatest, but it's very good. Even the chilli accompaniment is not the kind used in dry prawn mee. I give points for that though because eating them together was a new experience. Thank god for semi-peeling the prawns. Their bowls by default come with clams.

Recently checked out Sumo Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee, the sister shop of famous Sumo Big Prawn. This stall sells Hokkien mee, fried carrot cake etc and we tried the Hokkien mee. Was a little disappointed because we thought that these would be cooked fresher on the spot but the guy manning the stall simply scooped up some noodles leftover in an unheated wok and served it to us. Thankfully noodles were still warm. Taste wise it was decent too and had plenty of umami, but overall it could be fresher.

Few years ago, they were the talk of the town serving lobsters in hawker centers and the queue to get a bowl of noodles easily took more than 30mins. Fast forward... there wasn’t any queue on a weekend lunch hour.

A bowl of prawn noodle comes with 3 prawns and a handful of plump juicy clams. The prawns were fresh and the broth was sweet and flavourful but I felt that something was missing. The taste of prawn in the broth was not prominent enough and tasted more like a bowl of seafood soup. it’s probably due to the use of other types of crustacean 》$5

Not gonna lie, when I first saw the price list I was like “Wah so ex”, but after trying the food here I’ll come back and willingly fork out the money. Portion sizes are massive, definitely sumo-sized, and they don’t hold back with the ingredients. The prawns are easily the biggest I’ve had in a prawn noodle till date and they were Uber fresh, extremely juicy and deliciously crunchy. Broth wise is on the lighter side but it still had a strong prawn taste, if that makes sense. Really want to come back and order the bowl with crayfish, looks insanely good.

Sumo prawn noodles ($5)

Comes with 3 small prawns and clams. Soup is sweet but has msg as I felt thirsty after that. The prawns have no muddy taste but some had the shells sticking to the flesh, so can be fresher.

The soup was really tasty and really enjoy having it with the la la. I got the big prawn which is really good also. $8

Great prawn mee!! Broth is flavourful and they give about 2 big prawns, 1 smaller prawn and lots of clams fr the $8 bowl! If you order this on GrabFood, the noodles and beansprout will come separately from the soup which is a PLUS! The only gripe I have is that they don’t seem to clean the beansprouts :’(

Had the prawn noodles soup ($5), which comes with 3 normal sized prawns and alot of lala clams. Broth is quite rich and flavorful. There are other options such as big prawns, lobsters or just lala clams.

Clear broth soup, little prawn unami. What they r selling is a bowl of seafood soup masquerading as “prawn mee”. Throw in $25 if u wan a lobster

They really do serve big prawns! The prawns were well cooked, however, do be careful while you’re peeling the prawn head as it might get a little messy! The noodles were chewy and there was a generous portion of clams given too! 🤤 I think the best part of this dish was the flavor-packed broth which was super shiok but if you prefer a lighter broth, this is not for you! Do take as much broth as you can with your noodles as it’s pretty greasy to drink on its own!

Ordered the $5 prawn noodles and added $1 for more lala (thankfully generous with the ingredients and the lala were quite plump and juicy). Pretty sure there was a whiff of Chinese wine when it was first served to us - soup was flavourful but light so perhaps it’s not for people who prefer a richer broth. Generally enjoyed it except for the prominent taste of garlic/ shallots towards the end. Prawns were alright but not as fresh as we had expected, so we will probably just go for the lala noodles or perhaps spend a little on the crayfish! Wouldn’t mind having this again when I’m in the area.

While there was a generous serving of fresh juicy prawns and yummy lala, we felt that the soup was not as rich or flavorful as we would have liked. There was more garlic and onion taste than prawn or seafood flavor. Still a good bowl nonetheless
⚠️ The long 1hr queues that made the #hawkerstall known has eased. But we did go at 1.30pm on Sunday after lunch peak hours

The 45mins queue trend is over! Seafood is sweet, fresh and succulent but soup seems to be lacklustre in flavors. You can taste the savoriness of the soup but missing the sweetness from the seafood. But one thing is true, not too much of MSG (or not at all) as I did not have to quench my thirst thereafter.

Price: $24.90
This is located at a hawker centre so don't expect anything from the ambience. This lobster meehoon soup consists of a variety of super duper fresh seafood; lobster, big prawns, lala. There's 3 prices for this as it's according to the size of the lobster; $24.90/$29.90/34.90. A bowl of seafood essence 👍🏻

We ordered small size ($5) which has clams and unshelled prawns x3, medium size ($8) which has more carbohydrates, prawns, and clams, and the $15 portion which is a big bowl with crayfish and clams. We shared all the "liao" among ourselves, as the big bowl has lots of clams and 6 x halves of crayfish. Despite the slightly steeper price than normal, it was well worth it for the generous amount of ingredients and sweet sweet soup. We ordered all bee hoon so as not to let the alkaline taste of yellow noodles affect the soup.
The stall has a long queue but they cleared us quite fast.
Enjoyable food, they deserve the good reputation that we have heard.

while hawker food hunting in Ang Mo Kio with @dareren 💖💕✨ Lobster Bee Hoon Soup ($18.90-$24.90, so cheap!!!!) was sold out so it was the Crayfish Bee Hoon ($15) for us!! Three whole crayfish sliced in halves and a generous portion of clams. The soup stock is sooooo sweet we slurped it all up. Damn worth it! 😋 #burpple #dqky
