Food —— 💯 overrall, all three mains were a hit 👍 Tassie Scallop Pie ($15) was rich and creamy with 4-5 scallops inside ✨ Buttermilk Chicken Pancake ($20) was a marriage between Macdonalds Hotcakes and KFC fried chicken ‼️ good value for the price 💯 Tassie Grilled Salmon ($28) - premium dish due to use of Tasmania Salmon 🐟 and Barley Risotto 💕 For desserts, Affogato ($7.90) exceeded expectations - creamy rich vanilla sorbet used 👍 Will actually revisited for brunch‼️ since i’m in the area 😳

For $28 you get to dig into this hearty plate of honey bacon, pork sausage, baked beans, grilled tomato, sautéed mushrooms, tater tots, choice of eggs (scrambled, sunny side up or poached), a slice of sourdough toast and a mesclun salad. Needless to say, it was very filling and I enjoyed every single bite of it. Loved the cafe vibes as well! Highly recommend the coffee too ☕️

The last time I dined at @sevenscafe.sg, the only Swiss roll available was the critically acclaimed houjicha roll. Thus, it was a pleasant surprise to see the brand new Noir roll emerge as a counterpart to the houjicha roll. After all, more options mean more winning for us café hoppers.⠀

I was definitely winning with the Noir, as this monochromic dessert was a delight. Despite having spent time in the display chiller, the charcoal sponge was still fluffy & sprightly. The sponge cake layer was dense enough to sate any cake cravings, but sat lightly in the stomach. At the center is where the real treasure lay: an abundance of black sesame cream.⠀

The cream was smooth and luscious, but most importantly, it was utterly inundated with the aromas & flavours of black sesame. The bold, rich nutty & roasty aromas and flavours are turned up to eleven here, and the typical bitterness of black sesame is ameliorated by the subtle sweetness of the dessert. The pungency of the black sesame is so intense that it has managed to impregnate the charcoal sponge with its amazing aromas too. The sweetness is rather mild, and is a dessert that goes easy on the sugar but goes hard on the sesame.⠀

While it is extremely expensive at $9.90++ a slice, each slice of Noir is pretty chonky and can even be shared between two or three. Pricey, but the quality makes sure that you’re firmly in the black.

Cod was created to be the perfect fish for fish & chips, so I was glad to find out that @sevenscafe.sg utilises that flaky fish. The Cod & Chips ($24++) is a gargantuan meal, built from three colossal cod fillets battered & deep fried, along with a whole heaping helping of shoestring fries. In all honesty, it’s more cod & fries than cod & chips as the fries are a far cry from proper thick cut chips, but I’m just being pedantic at this point.⠀

Chips or no, the battered cod was absolutely stunning. Look at the subtle off white shade of the fresh cod. The tasteful thickness of it. Oh my god, it even has crumbly bits. Yes indeed, the cod has everything needed to make you sweat profusely with pleasure. The firm, flaky fresh fillets of cod were the polar opposite of the deafeningly crunchy batter that encased it. Speaking of the batter, it’s truly beautiful. Crunchy and impossibly airy, it adhered to the cod rather well and made this dish oh so memorable.⠀

However, the brilliant batter was its own downfall. All that crunch came at a price, and that price was the absorption of a copious amount of oil. Truth be told, the first and second giant fillets were down easily & eagerly. It wasn’t until I cut into the third that the greasiness hit me like a truck, and my heart & arteries started begging for mercy. At that point, I was desperate for something bland, or something sour & zesty to cut through the grease, but all I had were fries that exacerbated the problem.⠀

With that said, I still firmly believe that this cracking cod & chips is downright decadent. Just don’t conquer it solo, share the love around instead.
