The first trying some Turkish food locally at Sahara Bar & Restaurant. Quite a pleasant first experience especially their appetizers!
We had their Cacik. It’s like served chilled, yoghurt mixed with cucumber, garlic and herb. It’s kind of light and refreshing, and makes you wanting to have more.
Their lamb is well seasoned with herbs and spices and done pretty well. It compliments very well with the spicy and tangy salsa salad. Their Kofte lamb on the other hand is a little on the tougher end. Neither of them has a strong gamy smell.
Their dessert homemade kunefe is interesting too. It’s shredded filo pastry filled with cheese and baked. On itself there’s not much flavor to it, it’s plain and chewy but once you add the cream and syrup, it’s a whole new level.
A good substitute for a trip to turkey 😅.
Tavuk sote @ $22
Something like a chicken stew dish. A bit on the salty side and the taste is quite monotonous after a while. Bread texture wasn't great, could be made softer and fluffier and there's also not much taste to it.
Used 1 for 1 on burpple beyond.
Unlikely to be back to try even other dishes when there's other and better Turkish food options in town.
Musakka (chicken) @ $20
The food was okay, a bit liquidy (probably the sauce) on the inside, maybe can bake a bit longer. Bread was a bit tough. Taste was quite monotonous after a while.
Used 1 for 1 on burpple beyond.
Unlikely to be back to even try other dishes when there's many other and better turkish food options around town.
Nice place in the heart of boat quay. Staff is super friendly and service is fast. The view is fantastic overlooking the quay.
The place is smoker's Friendly which is a good or bad thing, depending on your nicotine preferences.
Average cost for 2 is about $100, but it's totally worth the money. We ordered the grilled platter for 80++, plus a few drinks. Paid about $150 for 3 people. Must try when in boat quay.
We also tried the dessert, which I will review separately.
Explore the Middle East with your tastebuds! Located along the bustling stretch at Boat Quay, Sahara Bar & Restaurant is a stop you'll have to make. Sample the wide variety of flavours offered via dishes like the Imam Bayildi (baked eggplant) ($20) or Lamb Shank ($28). Even better, have the best of both worlds with the Mix Grill Platter ($49)! As Burppler Anushree Tricannad puts it, "This dish took me back to my Dubai days. A plate filled with freshly baked pita bread along with super delicious hummus. The consistency of the hummus (topped with olive oil) was perfect."
I personally don't like both the meaty dishes Cevapcici $26++ and Musakka $18++. They are both dry and too spice-spicy for me. I felt jelak eating them.
The chicken soup and avocado salad were really appetizing and refreshing 👍, though.
The Turkish coffee is small in size and filled with very fine coffee powder 😅 Not my cup of coffee 😛
