Not as delicious as years ago. Prices are also slightly high ($5 for bigger portion of the standard chicken rice) for a normal-quality chicken rice.
Ordered curry fish head which I wished they boiled longer before serving because the vege were not fully cooked and the taupok had not soaked in the curry. Curry felt diluted until the end when it was more boiled down. Quite a disappointment cuz most tables ordered it.
Also ordered half a white chicken and deep fried fritters to share which were ok. Oily rice was not bad but white rice was a little hard which was ok after pouring curry over. Total bill was around $55 for 3.
Ji De Lai has been my top rated chicken rice for a few years now, and it has even earned itself a spot on the Michelin Bib Gourmand list in 2023. So, has the quality dropped off from the excitement of earning a spot on the Bib Gourmand and from the increased crowds?⠀
⠀
Ladies and gentlemen, it is with great pleasure I announce that Ji De Lai is just as good as it used to be before getting the thumbs up from Michelin. The steamed chicken sports smooth porcelain skin that covers the moist meat beneath, and that meat has been fully infused with all the sapidity of the stock it has been poached in. After chopping up the bird, Ji De Lai’s secret fantastically fragrant soya sauce mix is ladled over the chicken for maximum piquancy. The chicken is savoury, herby & carries a faint pandan note, and each bite topped off with a dollop of Ji De Lai’s fiery, ginger-y chili is pure chicken bliss.⠀
⠀
Even though I prefer the steamed/poached chicken over the roasted (JDL is the only place where I would pick the steamed over the roast chicken), the roast chicken is more than capable. It’s salty & savoury from all the aromatic spices rubbed into the bird before getting roasted, and the fat is rendered out while roasting to leave behind a nicely crisped skin. The meat is still marvellously moist and terrifically titillating, and each bite of bird is guaranteed to spark joy.⠀
⠀
Pair these breathtaking birds with the luscious, rich grains of fragrant chicken rice, and you’ll start to see why even the Michelin guide remembers to honour Ji De Lai in their prestigious list.
Fragrant rice, succulent roasted chicken, and a comforting braised egg alongside some bok choy. This spot easily ranks high on my list of favorite chicken rice places. The pricing remains wallet-friendly, just the way I like it. And guess what? The soup is free-flow and self-service. Can't skip mentioning their ginger—it's truly amazing! 🥰

Steamed Chicken Set (S$5.50)
Supposed to served oyster sauce vegetables but not available so replaced with a plate of bean sprouts. The bean sprouts was kind of raw.
Note 📝 : Don’t forget to help yourself to the soup which was packed with chicken feet, carrot and potato
Awesome chicken rice at a very affordable price
Wee Kim Hainanese Chicken Rice.😋
Still as great as I had it years ago especially that ginger paste. Always order my standard thigh area for extra juiciness.
Succulent chicken with smooth skin on topped of bean sprout, drizzled in soya sesame sauce. Paired with a plate of flavoured rice and help yourself with a bowl of chicken feet peanut soup(Yes, scoop it and make your money worth). Do spam the ginger paste! Chilli was watery but do not be little it, its quite spicy!🌶
Comforting food must paired with ah neh teh cino for a sweet ending.😇

This franchise was certainly affected by the recent disruption to supply of fresh chickens, with their serving of chicken increasingly being thin sliced.
.
Still, be it poached or roasted, the highlight is their gravy, robust with meaty savoury salty sweet nutty flavour, infusing the tender chewy chicken meat.
.
The fluffy oily rice is properly decadent with grainy savoury sweet flavour, while the juicy sliced cucumbers and achar / pickled Peranakan salad carry vegetal sweet sour tangy zesty notes.
.
Completed with a cloudy but tasty chicken broth. Expect a short queue, though it moves quickly.

Affordable and tastisfying authentic Hainanese chicken rice that will fill your tummy with great satisfaction.
From succulent steamed meat with smooth, glistening jello skin and that roasted, juicy & slightly old meat to of that heavily chicken flavour, fragrant, fluffy & tasty rice; every spoonful of it was so heavenly. I like that thick soya sesame oil fragrance that was being drizzled onto the chicken, giving it an umami profile.
As some of the meat were slightly old in texture but the taste of it, doesn't compromised.
Soup was warm and comforting.
Another great place with solid ginger sauce, savoury and gingery spicy. Just look at how much I spammed.🤣 Wanted more tho.
Chilli sauce was in between creamy and watery, spicy level moderate, a bit bitter I feel but nonetheless still tasty.

Now that the gyms are closed and the pubs are strictly takeaway only, my weekends have become painfully empty, just like my entire life and bank account. That leaves me with a ton of time to kill, so what better (and tastier) way to do that than to venture out to the massive open air insane asylum that is Yishun for some of the best chicken rice in Singapore?⠀
⠀
For years now, Ji De Lai has been fighting off its competitors like a Yishun resident fighting off the cops, and they’re still chicken rice royalty. The supple steamed chicken sports silky smooth skin swaddling tender, juicy meat that’s been fully flavoured with the subtle yet tasty herbs & seasoning.⠀
⠀
The roast chicken is ridiculously redolent from the five spice mix & herbs, and is roasted perfectly. Gloriously golden skin is backed up by perfectly roasted chicken that’s moist & provides a marvellous mouthfeel as you savour every chew of this charmer of a chicken.
Spice these chicks up with a dash of delightfully gingery & garlicky chili sauce that’s rather potent, and chase it down with a spoonful of felicitously chicken fat flavoured chicken rice. Repeat as much as possible, and you will eventually find yourself in Flavortown.
Ji De Lai’s name is prophetic, because they foresaw my unforgettable addiction to what might just be the best chicken rice in sunny Singapore.
Some say that 925 Chicken Rice is the best chicken rice in Yishun. Do you agree? Well, read on to find out what I think.
Only steamed chicken is served here. Sorry, roast chicken fans. It’s quite reasonably priced for what you get for $4 (1 person). You get to choose your chicken parts (breast, thigh, drumstick). I chose drumstick as they were still preparing the thigh meat at the time I went. And it’s served with a tiny serving of achar, a side soup (it’s translucent and not clear).
The rice was reasonably fluffy and fragrant where it doesn’t clump together. But not exceptionally flavourful. The chicken itself was tender (it’s drumstick after all) but not as silky and juicy as what I would expect. I like the special sauce as it added a bit of flavour to the dish.
I expected the chilli to wow me over. But it didn’t had the tangy kick or the garlicky punch. And doesn’t have the spiciness factor too.
It didn’t taste the same as when I had it back at its sister outlet at Ang Mo Kio 722. Do the food at the Ang Mo Kio outlets taste better than the OG at Yishun? I feel that the standards have dropped slightly. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a good plate of chicken rice. But is it worth the detour? Probably not.
Where your favourite chicken rice store? Today I went down to 925 Yishun Hainanese chicken rice! You should see the queue! I was amazed and shock at how good their chicken rice was! So come down join the lunch crowd to block 925 at Yishun for their chicken rice.
