Indonesian Style Bak Kut Teh. Instead of the regular herby peppery soup, they offered a "milkier" version. After long hours of brewing the ribs with shallots and garlic, they magically transformed the water to white creamy broth. Pure comfort food. If you put Japanese ramen, it will be the tastiest ramen ever! .

Compared to other Surabaya dish, the owner set aside salt, chilli and lime for the customers to season to their own preference. .

Something the ugly or less Instagram-able dish tasted one of the best. The sliver table and bright fluorescent light made almost important to get a good shot. Whenever you asked the local what is the must try in Surabaya, 99% of them will tell you to visit this stall. However, this stall didn't even had a proper name, they simply named it after the dish (this proved how good it was). Hiding at the alley way of Surabaya which only the locals visited this run down stall. .

Warung Nasi Cumi was a more rustic version of Singapore Economic Rice. Thick spicy curry and squid ink stew turned the plain old white rice into a plate of pure carbohydrate comfort. The squid might be a on a harder side but flavorful. The taste was so interesting and so addictive which couldn't stop my spoon from reaching to my mouth. |

This cafe felt like our PS cafe but more affordable. Full frame window and rustic setting. Totally my kind of place. .

Forcing the other flavors into crab wasn't an easy task. It got even more difficult while the sweetness of the crab was still able to be retain. .
|
Invented by a Singapore Chef, Chef Cheung, he created this delicious butter. He heavily infused the butter by frying shallots, garlic and chilli then stir fried the crab with it. The savory addictive flavor was so good that we could only stop after the dish was clean out. .

This is very popular among the locals. Light savory bowl of clear soup with fist size beef ball. Start with the beef ball then work your way to the fried beancurd. After a squeeze of the lime, sweet sauce and chili (be careful their chili is super hot), the entire flavours changed to a more tom yum like soup. Every mouthful bought such comfort to the soul. No wonder the locals love it so much. .

The chicken was pretty normal (not the best) but the sour soup made up for it. The sourness excited the appetite and provided some moisture for the chicken. Their Sinom was also an must try. The sweet and refreshing drink helped to extinguish the burning chilli. .

Hiding at the dark alleyway, this "depot" served the best "zi char" dishes. The creative idea of serving up regular dishes was pure genius. .

One of my friend favorite, fried mee sua with mixed veg gravy. While the crispy Mee sua soaked up the flavorful gravy, it turned soft but some bits still remained crispy. .

Side note: the boss speak Chinese so no communication problem but you just need to find the place.

This was the best truffffffle dish I had. Usually we could smell the truffle but when come to the taste, it vanished after the first photo was taken. .
|
Even before it arrived on our table, we could smell it coming. During the moment the pasta touched the tongue, it's flavors exploded and let us understood how did real truffle tasted like. The deep earthiness (mushroom like) taste sank into the palate. It was so good that I almost swallowed my tongue. .
|
Chef Hendry skillfully used braised scallop (like our Chinese xo sauce) to extract out savory side of the truffle created an totally different dimension of taste. .

This was their Chocolate Slurpee (totally for dark chocolate lover). The taste was so intense that it could actually waken any sleepy soul. .

Hid in the middle of the neighborhood and the big cars need to squeeze their way through. Yet the locals still insisted to come here for their Babi Penele. If you expect air con or super clean environment, this might not be the person for you. Once entered, we were welcome by the sound of the pork belly sizzling in the tub of hot oil. The smell lead me to a chair and quickly sat my butt down. .
|
A beautiful combination of pork delight - from crispy pork to braised pork. No trace of smelly pork and the flavors was complex yet so comforting. The pork was so crispy that I could hear my friend biting into them. .

Especially if you are planning to your "BIRTH"-day at Surabaya, the restaurant will surprise you!
|
Not because inside had all the God stuff (actually the place had none), but it had this sharp pointy top and full frame window. .
|
Back to their food, the coffee was good (no trace of bitterness with a smooth finish but the milk was over beaten). I was not very impressed by their egg Benedict, thick spread of mayo on the toast with broken poached egg. .
|
Highly recommend to try their beef butter rice instead because I could smell the rice at the other table. .
