In my humble opinion, two of the best places for a good sinful portion of carbonara would either be at Prive Cafe or Peperoni. Celebrated Dad's birthday at my favourite Binjai Park outlet because it feels so much like a homely family space tucked away in Bukit Timah ✨ I remember when I first saw the menu years ago I was horrified at the price. $24 for a plate of pasta...it was and still is pretty steep for a broke and unemployed student like yours truly. But I still return over and over again because of the HUGE serving portion which can be shared with a few others. Dad ordered one with spaghetti while I had mine in the same OL' penne but I really think the cream sauce tastes better with penne. They are pretty generous with the sauce and bacon too! They say it's in "light cream sauce" but I say it's so flavorful yet sinful yet I don't really have the time think about how many rounds I have to run. Three words - This is LEGIT. This applies to the wood fired pizza (of course), pasta, desserts and everything else off the menu. Hands down my favourite Italian family dining place.

From noon to 2:30pm on weekdays, this China Square joint serves up a special lunch menu of hearty lunch classics, all priced at an affordable $13.90 and below. The crowd favourite is, without a doubt, the Spaghetti Carbonara with Homemade Guaniciale ($10.90). Expect a huge serving of al dente spaghetti wearing a luscious sauce and tossed with fried shrimp, bacon and a soft boiled egg. Portions are very generous, so be prepared for a food coma. Take the long route back to the office, or save this for when the big boss is out.

Good one! Flavourful. Not like other carbonara where you get sick of it halfway through.

I've heard soooo many mixed reviews about Dazzling Cafe from people around me so I didn't have much expectations when I walked in. It was a Saturday and surprisingly, the place was quite empty. The one thing on the menu that caught my eye was the Mentaiko Pasta. This dish was pretty good but I think I've tried more sinful ones with a stronger Mentaiko taste. But overall, service was FANTASTIC, ambience was FANTASTIC. 👍🏻

This place has really good angmoh dishes with Asian twists like laksa pasta and ramen burgers. Don't know about the burgers but the laksa pasta and this carbonara were both amazing. The carbonara was very rich and creamy but doesn't make you jelat at all, unlike most creamy dishes I've had. Very reasonably priced too. Highly recommended!

Haven't brought my parents to brunch in awhile - cause old(er) people think ang moh eggs and toasts are a blasphemy - but I'm glad I chose Shelter in the Woods for this occasion. Parents absolutely loved it. Dad was a huge fan of this Chorizo Vongole, which saw a classic pasta dish elevated with the use of smokey spiced chorizo.

Situated along the same stretch of shophouses as Strangers' Reunion at Kampong Bahru, Old Boys Gallery is an art gallery-cum-tapas bar and restaurant that serves unassuming nosh along with an extensive range of craft beers and ciders. Expect items such as marmite-drenched OBG wings ($10.90 for 3pcs), potato chip-thin Spam Chips ($9) and their beefy Manster Burger ($17.90). With their regular promotions – currently you can get five craft beers for just $50 – Old Boys Gallery is certainly shaping up to be a good casual joint for boozing with your mates. Food-wise, go for their unique Roast Pork Aglio Olio ($14.90) and their comforting Vongole Bianco ($13) – Venus clams drenched in white wine broth and served with toast.

Rather serviceable and perfunctory. Apart from being as memorable as a secretary’s story told in the elevator about how her mother prefers Hockhua antelope’s horn to other vendors in the Toa Payoh area, the seafood was curiously cut up to small chunks almost as if you were of the age that required chair-stacking before sitting. Hmmmm. 3.4/5

While other laksa/pasta crossover projects (the magnificent Tolido's Espresso Nook variant comes to mind) bring the flavour of laksa to the pasta playground for exploratory experimentation, here the interpretation remains true to its traditional laksa beliefs. Essentially old-school laksa but blown-dry leaving a lingering moisture, like those 8.30am wet-hair mops which brush onto your face in the rush hour MRT train. 3.9/5

Wild Mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, garlic, onion and chili flakes all tossed in a creamy tomato sauce!
I really loved the creamy tomato sauce, which reminds me of the times when I tried out my culinary skills which involves me adding cheese to my tomato pasta sauce! This was the kind of flavour I was trying to achieve, which I failed miserably at home 😢

For the chilli fans — This is one super spicy bowl of pasta… so those that can't take too much spice should let them know to hold back a little. Apart from the extreme spiciness, the pasta was flavourful and super garlicky with fresh prawns and scallops (my weakness). Definitely a dish I'd go back for again. Plus Benjamin Browns is tucked away in Forum Shopping Centre. A good place to get away from the Orchard hustle and bustle.
