Tau Huay

$1.00 · 16 Reviews

Beancurd smooth.

Uses gula melaka as syrup.

Quite good.

$1 only

Really really smooth, but so hot that you can't really eat it quickly at all. The sugar syrup had a strong pandan fragrance as well.

While the syrup might not seem like a lot since the tau huay filled the bowl to the brim, there's actl just enough so don't have to ration at the beginning. I always make the same mistake without realising that the syrup seeps to the bottom

Beancurd ($1)
.
The cheapest soya beancurd I have had in a very long while from serangoon gardens food centre (opposite Chomp Chomp) yet it delivers one of the silkiest beacurd textures I’ve had to-date. I’m also certain that the sugar syrup has some extra secret ingredients added as it was not just a sweetener but also carried a fragrant aroma. Simple pleasures to make the weekend a good start!

A hit amongst the Burpple Tastemakers on this week's Serangoon Garden Market trawl, this stall in Serangoon Garden Market serves a winning bowl of Tau Huay ($1). It's as traditional as it can get — the beancurd is only served hot, and in a retro blue and white porcelain bowl to boot. As Tastemaker Zhihui Lim describes, the beancurd is extremely smooth and delicate, and the syrup wasn't excessively sweet. Tastemaker Wei Zhi Chiang says it slid down her throat, while Tastemaker Irene Arieputri declares that it blew her mind. Their only gripe is that they wished it could be served cold but hey, it'll be well worth your perspiration.

Delicate, velvety and smooth, Chen Shun Mei/ Tan Soon Mui (陈顺美) definitely did not disappoint. Capturing the old school flavours in traditional blue porcelain bowls, this seemingly simple $1 beancurd was spot on. Gliding down the throat with little to no effort, the amount of syrup added to the silky curds was also just right - not too sweet but enhanced the fragrance and the whole experience. A true gem in Serangoon Garden Market and Food Centre. #Cheapandgood

Probably not something I expected of this food exploration, but this traditional bowl of tau huay stole the spotlight. The soft silky texture was on point although the aunty said they only had the warm version. I rarely find tau huay mindblowing, and this might be one of those rare occasions. So happy to end our feast on a light sweet note!

Beancurd so delicate and smooth, wished there was a cold version but at only $1, wouldn't mind getting this even with the super hot weather! Also liked how the syrup wasn't excessively sweet.

My heart died a little when we found out Chen Shun Mei only serves hot tau huay (we really wanted something cold to cool ourselves down in the intense heat), but so glad that we still went ahead with it! Scooped into a traditional porcelain bowl, the spoons of beancurd were so silky smooth that it easily slides down the throat. It was delicate and light, none of that processed sort of texture and taste. Very impressive for just a dollar, especially with the perfect amount of mildly sweet sugar syrup expertly poured in by the lady owner! #BurppleBestofSerangoonGarden

I'm a sucker for Chen Shun Mei Tauhuey. The beancurd is so delicate and breaks at the lightest touch, testament to its softness. Also love the sugar syrup that almost tastes like it is infused with pandan leaves. This is the best dish $1 can get you here at Serangoon Garden Market & Food Centre!! #BurppleBestOfSerangoon

Nowadays... It's a rare sight to see beancurd served in white and blue porcelain bowl. I'm glad to have tried this silky smooth beancurd with a scoop of nice sugar syrup for just $1. No regrets and I can just have 10 bowls at once 😋
