I get the hype now. One of my favourite stay-home lunches as of late, I finally got my hands on Dickson Nasi Lemak - in particular their signature Ayam Goreng Berempah Chicken Leg Nasi Lemak ($9.20 - Boiled Egg/ $10 - Fried Egg). The spiced fried whole chicken leg was truly the best part - tender, juicy, well-marinated with a good hit of turmeric flavour. The skin was also crisp with a slight crunch from the studded deep-fried bits. The rice was fragrant and not mushy at all. Each hunky leg comes with sweetish sambal, peanut, and ikan bilis as well.
The Beef Rendang ($5.80/ portion) was good too! Pretty lemak, the slow-cooked beef was fork-tender and relatively spicy - perfect with a steaming bowl of rice. A tad oily but very flavourful.
🗒 I had it delivered (cries in west side best side) and I chose to email them directly for their in-house courier service which has a fixed fee of $35 (ouch but yes) or you can also use the islandwide delivery on GrabFood that will be cheaper in delivery but the slots are pretty limited (shop status on the app closes randomly and dependent on driver availability) and the 3rd party platform does charge a fee, each item is at a higher price.
finally tried this popular nasi lemak. rice was reallyy fragrant but chicken was dry and sambal was more sweet than spicy😣 wouldn’t return esp since it’s so expensive😭
First spotted Dickson Nasi Lemak when we walked by to get toHello Arigato Joo Chiat Cafe! Tried out a sampling tasting portion set when they were at the Singapore Food Festival last month!
This time round we are back to try the full set! They are well known and famous for their nasi lemak!
Got the Chicken Leg ($9.20) and boneless chicken thigh ($6.90) to try. They have different menu options for a half boiled egg or a full sunny side up egg!
What is so good about this nasi lemak is that EVERYTHING tastes good! Fragrant coconut aroma nasi lemak rice, to the sweet spicy chilli sauce, and well marinated juicy chicken! Between the two, I actually preferred the boneless chicken thigh version, which seems have more marination taste than the chicken leg! However, if you want a substantial meat portion, then the chicken leg one will be a better option for your!
Their operating hours are quite short: 830-1030am or 1145am to 3.30pm. So time your visit well if not you may miss out on it! Do note that they only have takeaway available here, no dine-in!
They had a booth at the Singapore Food Festival that just ended which offered bite-sized portions of their famous Ayam Goreng Berempah (Boneless Chicken Thigh Nasi Lemak). Having heard rave reviews of their rendition of Nasi Lemak over the last few months, how could I not try?
Try I did, and absolutely FLOORED I was. The coconut rice was fragrant and delicious (as it should be), and the chicken were so crispy and well-marinated, bursting with flavours. But the highlight of the dish has got to be their sambal - it's not your typical as-sweet-as-it-is-spicy sambal from the neighbourhood mama shop; instead it has a unique spicy, savoury kick to it that paired perfectly with the rest of the dish. Sooooo much oomph! Used to think that their Joo Chiat outlet was too far out of the way to visit, but now I think the distance would be worth travelling.
coconut rice, whole spiced fried chicken leg, egg, cucumber, anchovies, sambal
Have been wanting to try their nasi lemak for the longest time, and I finally did that recently!
I had their Ayam Goreng Berempah Chicken Leg Nasi Lemak, and it was so good! From the well-marinated, juicy and tender spiced fried chicken, to the aromatic fluffy rice, and the sambal which was sweet but packed a fiery punch, everything was on point! The fried egg (which is their new add-on menu item) upped the satisfaction even further! Even though this was ordered via delivery, the quality was still apparent!
