learnt about this from staff at manzoku. chirashi don is just as good and no crowd on Sat.
Would’ve immensely enjoyed this bowl of chirashi had it been more consistent in flavour. Some of the thick cuts of sashimi lacked the natural sweetness it should have if it were fresh 😕 But thennn.. they served us an awesome melt in the mouth aburi salmon 🥰 Would probably return to try some of their other dishes!
Their outlet at Robertson quay might be the original but this one at Holland v is pretty good too.

That being said, they are quite inconsistent with the rice being quite lumpy the 2nd time I visited and there also have been some polarizing reviews on this place so 🤷♂️
The fish had an almost stale taste to it, as though it had been left in the chiller for some time. I was excited to learn of Chikuwatei’s concept at Holland Village initially, but it’s safe to say I won’t be back anytime soon. #chikuwateinishi #burpple
$35++ for thick cuts of unagi, chutoro, mekajiki, hotate, amaebi, sake, ikura and tobbiko. Quality was a bit of a hit and miss: mekajiki was fresh and buttery, as was the sake; but the amaebi was bland and tasteless. I would probably go for the basic chirashi bowl priced at $25 next time - this restaurant doesn't do justice to the more premium varieties of seafood
Do note that green tea is chargeable at $1.50. Service was average but efficient. Restaurant was quite empty on a weekday lunch.
In all, decent Japanese fare at an accessible location. The lack of crowds is definitely a draw factor, as well as the reasonable pricing. 3.9/5
Tried out this Chikuwatei outlet at Holland Village and what's good is that there is a 'Hot' and 'Cold' section of the menu to segregate the sashimi/raw stuff from cooked (great for me because I don't eat sashimi!) Variety was decent in the 'Hot' menu: many starters, don options and meat skewers. I had the Tokyo Katsu ($14) which came with a generous portion of chicken. The Chirashi Don had good reviews too; sashimi slices were thick and fresh! 👍🏻
