An average bagel filled with Kimchi chicken, housemade gochujang aioli, and kimchi slaw. It wasn’t spicy and was mostly creamy due to the aioli. I felt the bagel itself was a bit stale unfortunately. But overall it an okay bagel that I would only get if using a 1-for-1 deal.

It appeared they charged me $1 more for takeaway, but the guy at the counter immediately crushed the receipt the moment it came out and threw it away, which I thought was a little bit sus. Anyway he looked new and a little nervous so I decided not to pursue it.
(Edit: The nice staff at Whiskdom messaged me to track my order - the additional $1 was for the drink to be iced. But I wasn’t informed of this and wasn’t provided a receipt to check - must’ve been some kind of miscommunication.)

I used the Burpple Beyond 1-for-1 Bagel + Drink deal, so it wasn’t too bad, if not everything would’ve been too expensive for its standards. I got the Eggsplode ($12.90) for the other bagel but honestly wouldn’t recommend it at all unless you want a plain egg mayo bagel. They did give a lot of egg though.

I went at about 6.30pm and most of their drinks were unavailable, which left me with only a few options. I was their only customer at that time and waiting time was about 20-30 minutes for my two bagels and drinks to be ready.

I guess overall the experience here wasn’t the best for me, but I’m willing to give it another chance and try their bakes, since there’s the Beyond 1-for-1 deal.

Tonkatsu was crispy and delicious - you can choose between pork loin, fish, or chicken. Each person can pick something different so you don’t have to get two of the same meats. The set also comes with 2 pieces of tori karaage, 2 pieces of fried oysters, as well as 2 bowls of rice and soup. There were also pickles and shredded vegetables on the side to help balance out the saltiness of the fried foods.

It was a lot of food, and I’m glad they allowed us to pack the extras because we couldn’t finish all of it! Standard of food was good, standard restaurant pricing after GST but reasonable considering the amount of food there was.

Staff were friendly and helpful, which made the dining experience positive. We visited on a weekend afternoon, and it was fairly busy, though there were still some vacancies here and there.

A standard bowl of Hei Mee. Flavourful broth with springy yellow noodles, a classic no frills hawker dish done well. Prawns were fresh too.

Not too long of a queue and wait on a weekday morning, which was nice as we were hungry!

Cravings for fries: Satisfied! ✅ Super sinful, crispy fries with with salty toppings of your choice. It’s perfect if you’re really craving for some savoury comfort food. Its saltiness was very addictive, I think I couldn’t stop after my first one, and I ate until my tongue and the roof of my mouth hurt. 😂

Great for sharing as well, the bowl is huge. It is definitely wallet friendly with the Burpple Beyond 1-for-1 deal, and they allow you to pick different flavours for each bowl. Do note the shop is only for takeaways only.

Compared to the classic Lemon Meringue Tarts out in the market, this one was very much less sour overall and friendlier for the sweet tooth’s. The lemon filling was milder, making it palatable for children - I can see my younger cousin enjoying this even though he may not like lemon very much!

The bakery also sells other flavoured tarts such as (from left of picture): Speculoos Cream Cheese ($6.90), Sea Salt Nutella ($6.90), and Lychee Pop Tart ($7.90). They taste exactly like their names.

Butter Studio is located on the first floor of Bugis Junction, making it a convenient stop for sweet cravings. The staff are as sweet as their desserts too! There are not many dessert shops that are Halal certified, so this shop usually comes to mind whenever I’m looking for dessert options with my Muslim friends.

Thank you Burpple and Butter Studio for the invite!

If you’re a fan of thick, dense milkshakes - look no further. Butter Studio makes their shakes from their very own ice cream, so you feel like you’re slurping their ice cream up in liquid form. Perfect if you're craving for the taste of ice cream but are too lazy to use your hands to scoop it into your mouth (wait I’m not the only one right?).

Choose from 3 flavours - Speculoos Crunch, Berry Lychee or Midnight Chocolate. I personally found the Speculoos Crunch very sweet but it’s probably great for children and those with very sweet tooth's. I preferred the Berry Lychee - I couldn’t really taste the lychee but I liked the milkiness and creaminess of the ice cream base paired with the fruity taste of berries (tasted primarily strawberry). The milkshakes were smooth and thick - their consistencies didn’t change even after they were left out for a considerable amount of time, which is a great plus point.

On Thursdays 6-8pm, enjoy 1 for 1 açai bowls (in-store promo)! It’s valid for the Medium Hawaiian or the Large Shiok bowl. It’s a pretty average açai bowl, but the price point makes it a very attractive buy. The açai was more towards a viscous consistency as opposed to icy, and was quite sweet. The fruits were average.

Didn’t even need to use the Burpple Beyond deal here since we happened to visit on Thursday - was pleasantly surprised that they had their own in-store promotions. It’s a takeaway stand, so we just brought our bowls to nearby benches to enjoy. If you’re simply craving for a standard açai bowl and happen to be in the orchard area, this is a pretty good option given its price point after discount - quite worth it!

Choose your type of bread and type of spread! For breads, they have a variety, ranging from the classic brioche or sourdough, to flavours such as matcha or pumpkin - which can be quite subtle especially when paired with spread. The toast is thick and pretty substantial, so honestly one was quite filling already.

For spreads, you can go for the traditional kaya (with or without butter), or try their nut butters or jam. They even have avocado and chia seed which was what I tried, and I was glad that they weren’t stingy with the avocado. There’s a lot of options for both breads and spreads so it was nice to be able to mix and match them all.

Overall everything tasted very healthy and freshly baked. It was a nice wholesome vibe enjoying our breakfast with a view of the Yishun pond. We were there at about 7.30am and it was already so busy! They actually served the bread first after some waiting, and it was only about 15min+ later that they served the eggs and drinks.. which was quite disjointed unfortunately because I couldn’t enjoy the whole breakfast set together. The toast was cold and not crispy by the time everything else was served. That’s my only complaint.

Otherwise, this cafe is not a bad breakfast spot given its ambience. If you have some time on your hands, are not too fussy and don’t mind a slow breakfast at the Yishun area, you can consider giving this place a shot!

So excited that Perch now has a 3-Course Set Menu under the Beyond deal! For mains, you can choose between: beef cheeks, duck leg, pork belly, or red snapper - which is a pretty nice selection since there are four different types of meat to choose from.

Being a fan of duck, I had to give the Local Duck Leg Confit a go, and it didn’t disappoint. The presentation was aesthetic, made a lasting first impression with the bubbly bright orange carrot mousse drizzled on top. Meat was tender and flavourful, went great with the pickled mustard jus for that extra tanginess.

This is my second time visiting Perch and their standards have been good. It’s situated along circumference of the vortex waterfall in Jewel, adding to the ambience of the restaurant - classy but not too formal, allowing for some relaxed dining.

Pricing is typical of a tasteful airport restaurant - but Burpple Beyond’s deals make it very reasonable. You can pick between having 1-for-1 main dishes or go for the 3-course set. It’s a pretty great deal.

Thank you Burpple for the invite!

So excited that Perch now has a 3-Course Set Menu as part of the Beyond deals! For dessert, you can choose between Salted Cheese Cake or the William Pear Crumble Tart.

The Salted Cheese Cake was pretty good - soft and light, your standard cheesecake done right (poetic huh?). On the side, a marvelous scoop of fior di latte ice cream sitting atop crumble. The ice cream was pure creamy milky goodness, its sweetness a fitting accompaniment to the salty cheesecake. I enjoyed the parmesan tuile beautifully crafted and perched (ha) on top of the ice cream, it reminded me of cheese bread I used to love as a child. Each element of this dish was thoughtfully chosen and paired with each other.

The William Pear Crumble Tart was delicious. It had the right amount of pear and tart, but honestly what stole the show was the lavender ice cream. The ice cream was milky and creamy (similar to the fior di latte), but with an accent of lavender which was not overpowering or artificial tasting. Its floral aroma went perfectly with the fruitiness of the pear tart. Honestly I think even people that don’t typically like lavender might end up enjoying this dish!

Now the differences between buying these fries ala carte instead of paying more for a set (fries + drink) to go with your burgers is: you get more fries, and you get a special dip - choose between Truffle Mayo, Spicy Mayo, Cheese Sauce, or House Tartar. The fries that come with the normal set just comes with the classic ketchup and/or chilli.

We chose the Truffle Mayo and it was surprisingly amazing! Honestly it was totally unexpected but we ended up loving every bit of it and polished the whole container of dip with our fries. The truffle taste was strong and fragrant, and the creaminess of the mayo just tied everything together well. Would recommend this for all truffle lovers out there.

Oh and I forgot to comment on the fries after raving so much about the sauce 😂 The fries were goooood. Crispy on the outside with substantial amounts of potato on the inside. It was a great accompaniment to the burgers.

There’s quite a bit of seating area in the restaurant but it can be quite crowded during peak periods, due to the hype around it right now. We visited on a weekday early evening and had to queue for about 20minutes or so, before being seated and proceeding to make our orders.

Overall a pleasant experience - this is a place you can consider if you’re at the Somerset area and craving for some good ol classic burgers.

Had to give this a try considering its novelty and appeal of nostalgia. Being a huge fan of malted milk, I enjoyed the drink, but wished that the taste of Horlicks could be stronger or more “gao”. There are perks of a lighter drink though - probably easier to drink and less overwhelming if you were finishing it on your own. Texture wise, it was pretty good. It was smooth and thick, but not icy.

There aren’t many places that offer Horlicks Milkshake - this is the only one I can think of right now (from my limited knowledge). So perhaps it’s worth a try nevertheless for fans of this childhood drink. A sweet blast from the past to accompany your savoury burgers.
