Beef Patty was pretty good, and the brioche bun absorbed most of the juices up deliciously. I liked that it was just a no frills cheeseburger, but executed well. Simple but good.
Itâs worth a try for burger enthuasiasts, and its convenient location doesnât give you many excuses not to give it a shot. I wouldnât mind coming back again to try their other burgers if Iâm around the area.
Thereâs quite a bit of seating area but it can be quite crowded during peak periods, due to the hype around it. We visited on a weekday early evening and had to queue for about 20minutes or so, before being seated and proceeding to make our orders.
Overall a pleasant experience - a place you can consider if youâre at the Somerset area and craving for some good ol classic burgers.
Fairly average Taiwanese food for a food court standard. However with the Burpple Beyond 1-for-1 deal, itâs really a steal - you wouldnât be able to get such food at half of the $6.80 pricing. Definitely would be my go-to meal if Iâm around the area and looking to fill my tummy while saving money.
Do note that only cash is allowed, so come prepared. The Kopitiam card is not accepted here as that gives you another 10% off.
Got this at the Singapore Food Festival but you can also enjoy this flavour at their permanent outlet. Hojicha ice cream was average - you can taste the roasted tea but the texture was more thin and powdery as opposed to the thick creamy texture of gelato that I personally prefer. I liked that it comes with rice puffs on the top for an extra crunch.
I had a burger craving, and Hambaobao hit the spot. Hammered it, even. It was a simple, no frills burger, but each element was executed perfectly. The beef patty was so juicy and full of flavour, just a bite in and I was already in heaven.
The shop is tucked at the corner on the 3rd floor of Trio Building, so it can be a little bit difficult to find. But trust me - itâs worth the hunt. It has an open kitchen and bar concept, with Lilâs Taproom sharing the space, providing craft beers (and even kombuchas, if youâre feeling healthy) to pair with your badass burgers.
Iâll be back to try their other burgers and drinks, definitely!
This triple fruited gose from North Brewing Co. is sure to make any fruit beer or cider lover happy! Itâs more towards the sour side but very refreshing - perfect for that summer vibe in sunny sunny Singapore. âď¸ Itâs light and easy to drink, being 4.5% ABV.
The staff here are super friendly and passionate about craft beer, so it was such a delight chatting with them and hearing them share about their interest. Would love to return and try their other flavours - they have a wide array of interesting craft beers and kombuchas!
The dory fillet was fried till crisp and delicious, I didnât even need any sauces to accompany it. The sambal was good too though - it had a good level of spice for a nice kick but not overwhelmingly too hot for the average Singaporean tastebuds. I liked that it was thoughtfully packed separately from the rest of the meal. Rice was fragrant too.
I think everything in the box came together well, and it was overall a pleasant meal. The shop is a takeaway stand at the basement of AMK Hub, so thereâre no seats for dine in. With the Burpple Beyond meal, itâs really a steal. Iâll definitely be back to use up all my 1-for-1 deals here!
Tucked in a corner of Orchard Gateway lies a hole in the wall Japanese donburi shop. Their signature dish - the beef donburi, looked very impressive. The thinly sliced wagyu beef was deliciously roasted till medium rare and aesthetically wrapped around the rice. At the side, a refreshing yogurt sauce flows, complementing its savoury counterparts. And finally, at the top, an egg lies, although we broke the yolk for a more dramatic picture. :P
This is my second time having this dish. I would say that the quality of food here is good and seems consistent. Initially I thought that the amount of beef is quite little - but taking into account the quality, price, and location, I actually think itâs pretty reasonable, given that some donburis in hawkers or less accessible areas are getting quite expensive now, or taking a compromise on quality.
If youâre looking for decent donburis in the Orchard area, Gyu Nami is a safe pick - you get a decent bowl for a reasonable price, and can enjoy it in a casual dining setting. With Burpple Beyond, you can get two bowls for $25, saving $5.
The shop has vintage Japanese posters lining its walls, and an impressive amount of boxes of anime figurines - apparently won from claw machines by the owner. If youâre curious, do ask the owner more about it - he is very friendly and appears happy to share interesting stories about his shop and hobbies.
Thank you Burpple for the invite, and Gyu Nami for hosting us!
Unfortunately we didnât quite enjoy the subs here. Bread was dry, ingredients were average, overall taste of the sub was average, and definitely not worth the price tag - weâd very much prefer Subway. Even with the 1-for-1 Beyond deal, Iâd hesitate recommending this place because $4-5 (after beyondâs discount) for just a subpar sandwich is not worth it.
We actually stood at the Blimpie counter for a full five minutes being ignored, before the staff said that we have to order Blimpies at 800deg woodfired kitchen counter instead. I thought a sign telling us to do so wouldâve been helpful. At least the staff was quite friendly.
Overall - wouldnât come back, wouldnât recommend.
I am in love! The nian gao waffle really exceeded my expectations - itâs the usual crispy and fluffy waffle, but with a sticky, chewy inner layer of nian gao on the inside. It really added another dimension to the waffles game. I remember my first bite into it like it was yesterday - I literally exclaimed âmmmm!â out loud. đ¤ Maybe Iâm biased because I personally love nian gao.
I think itâs really important to eat it hot and crispy because towards the end, as the waffles got cold, it became slightly softer and didnât pack the same punch as its initial impression.
Ice cream was good too. We got the tea flavours - Tie Guan Yin & Honey Camomile, which went wonderfully with the sweet nian gao. Both flavours were very fragrant and not too sweet, and its creaminess to top it all was perfect for us.
Would recommend this place for anyone that loves nian gao, or want to try a different type of waffle. And yes, I would be back again to try their other ice cream flavours! They have quite the plethora of tea flavours as compared to the usual gelato shop, to our delight.
We visited in the late afternoon, right before dinner time, so it was relatively quiet. Iâd expect the place to be quite busy during peak periods, as itâs situated literally right beside NEX / Serangoon MRT, making it such an accessible location.
Tiny cozy cafe amongst the AMK HDB estates, with a friendly team of staff, brewing pretty good coffee. Monday Coffee Bar ticks the important boxes of a good coffee place â They even have a small collection of books for customers to borrow, for your browsing pleasure over a cuppa coffee.
Space is tiny and seats are quite limited, so you may want to visit during non-peak periods (probably quieter and more peaceful).
The Burpple Beyond deal makes it more affordable, giving me all the more reason to come back again. Just wish I drove, because the place is quite far from the MRT station.
Donât be fooled - this Ultimate Breakfast is vegan. Rebellious indeed, because that pork sausage patty right there is all soy and no (real) meat. Itâs Impossible! Accompanying it is a muffin topped with sautĂŠed mushrooms, along with avocado, beetroot hummus, cherry tomatoes and shredded zucchini on the side.
I liked the variety of colours in this dish, it was very pleasing on the eyes. The beetroot hummus is definitely an eye catcher with its creamy, bright pink appearance. For those that are a little hesitant about the beetroot - donât worry because the beetroot taste isnât that strong in the hummus.
Being an omnivore that often orders full breakfasts, I felt that this dish lacked âvegan eggsâ. It was an essential puzzle piece in completing the âultimate breakfastâ experience - because this didnât seem very ultimate to me, just more like a sausage muffin with some veg on the side. It would be nice having scrambled eggs on the side as well seeing that there are already many vegan egg options on the market. It would also help in justifying the price tag of $19.. Perhaps a vegan would think differently?
When I first laid eyes on Rebelâs vegan menu, I was definitely very confused. There were so many familiar names such as Unagi Donburi, to Grilled Chicken Quesadillas. It took me awhile to realize that vegan food has indeed come a long way with several meat replacements and even vegan alternatives for mayo, cheese and eggs. Itâs great that restaurants like Rebel provide a place for people of different dietary choices to come together and enjoy their usual western food fare.
Overall I think the vegan menu in Rebel is worth a try once for the experience - at least for omnivores/non-vegans like myself, which I can speak for more confidently. :P It was fun looking at the dishes and being like, woah, this looks and tastes pretty legit! Otherwise I probably wouldnât return unless I was with someone vegan. If you do happen to be in the CBD area looking for food, and have a vegan or vegetarian friend with you, do add this to your repertoire of dining options!
Thank you Burpple for the tasting invite! :) For Beyond subscribers, you can enjoy a 25% off discount here.
Pork katsu was very crispy and juicy. The nori rice was a pleasant surprise as it was mixed with roe and furikake, making the whole dish very tasty. The bowl also comes with half an ajitama and a few small slices of pickled radish.
Serving size was average. Personally I thought it was a pretty good deal for bar food in the Orchard area after the Burpple Beyond 1-for-1 deal, all things considered. To note that the 1-for-1 deal is only applicable for dons and udons, with no exceptions in these categories.
Staff were friendly and helpful, creating a positive overall dining experience. The bar is spacious with multiple tables and chairs for groups, and its laid back atmosphere makes it suitable for casual group gatherings. Decoration-wise this place was pretty unique - dimly lit, with the ceilings and walls lined with unique toys, bottles of alcohol, neon signages, and street graffiti.
I would come back if I were around the area and craving for casual Japanese food, but only with the Burpple Beyond 1-for-1 deal.
We also got a free mug (yes, they were pretty generous with the serving size!) of highball after reviewing them on Google. Good stuff, or should I say GudSht? I guess they do live up to their name indeed.
