It’s not common to find thick kaya toast buns. These buns are soft with a light crisp on the outside. I liked that there was a light smear of kaya so that the buns weren’t too sweet, and the bread was allowed to shine. I don’t really understand the hype, but it’s a decent and appropriately priced breakfast in an old school coffee shop.

Anyone who loves matcha must try this. Like the regular shichifuku bun, this is a chewy springy bun with grains in it, but elevated with the earthy taste of matcha infused into the dough. It’s not sweet, and neither is it bitter. It’s huge, but not overly filling, and tastes healthy as it doesn’t have any unhealthy fillings in it. One of the best matcha buns around.

I’m not sure how this bread is more “mochi” than the other Gokoku buns. It has the distinctive Gokoku chewiness, but so do the other Gokoku buns. I like the chewiness, and I loved how every bite of bun came with a few pieces of juicy cranberries. It’s great both at room temperature and toasted.

It’s been two years since I last ate this. The dish has been retitled from “shrimps” to “tiger prawns” without any noticeable change in the size of the prawns, the price has increased by $4, the corn has been replaced by greens, and the size of the bread has shrunk. It’s not as satisfying as it used to be, but I still enjoyed the well-seasoned prawns, the creamy scrambled eggs, and the tangy sourdough.

This is the most affordable item on the menu for lunch. You can choose to have the eggs in fried, omelette or scrambled form. I liked that the scrambled eggs were soft and moist but not too buttery or creamy. The bread was too salty, but I liked that it was soft with a crisp toasted crust.

This was a value for money set of sushi, including four chutoro, negitoro, ikura and uni, amongst other fresh sushis. It’s rare to find such quality of sushi in supermarket sushi.

This is a soft bread with a thick chewy crust, studded with blueberries. I enjoyed the bread, though I prefer the green tea one more.

The classic pho comes with slices of beef in the soup, and basil, mint and lime on the side which you can add to the bowl. I liked the mix of flavours and the portion of beef, leaves and noodles was just right. The eatery is small and quiet, and waiters are polite.

The beef gimbap was delicious. I’ve had the chicken one before which I liked, but I think the beef one is much better. The beef is pretty lean and on the dry side, and it pairs very well with the gimbap rice. I liked the combination of the crunchy cucumber and radish and the soft crabstick, egg and spam.

I had the basic dory seafood soup, with added noodles ($1) and cabbage ($0.80). The broth, which I believe is made from prawns, was rich and delicious. There was a good amount of seafood, and the seafood tasted fresh. It is pricey, especially if you choose the other options, but worth an occasional treat.

Since I discovered Tangled, it’s become my go-to pasta place even though I neither live nor work near it. I mean, handmade pasta for $10? Where else can you find that? This is egg papardelle ricce with salmon cranberries, and tomato sauce. I really liked the large amount of salmon flakes and the chewy pasta. The only downside is that there is no dine-in option, but I guess that helps to keep the price low.

Having seen this egg tart often appear on social media, I tried it twice, once when it was hot out of the oven, and once when it had cooled down. I preferred the latter one more. The custard is pale yellow on the inside with a soft wobbly texture, and it needs the firmness of the cooled crust to support it. The crust is the buttery cookie type. It’s a delicious egg tart and I can see why it’s so popular, though I would prefer the custard to be less sweet and the crust to be less thick.

If you go too early, they won’t have made it yet, and if you go too late, it’s sold out. I’ve had the best luck in the early afternoon at about 1-2pm. A quick way to see if it’s in stock is to check if it’s available to buy on GrabFood.
