I wanted to try the value set but didn’t think I could finish it, so I got this without any rice or noodles (otherwise you get a choice of brown rice, white rice or brown rice vermicelli). I liked the generous amount of ingredients. The thunder tea paste is on the bland side, but when mixed with the ingredients, it balances out nicely with the saltier ingredients like the ikan bilis, making for a tasty and healthy meal. The thunder tea rice/noodles alone is $5.90. Topping up $3 gets a basil omelette and a fried beancurd. The omelette was cold and I didn’t like it very much, but the fried beancurd was hot with a crunchy crust, though slightly too salty.

A new flavour in this year’s line-up of Cedele’s hot cross buns, this is a different creature from the other hot cross buns, being denser and with a dough that is swirled upon itself. It’s the decadent cousin of the others, with a chocolate pistachio paste smeared between the swirls. I couldn’t really taste the pistachio, but the chocolate was of just the right proportion to the dough to create a sweet but not overly rich treat.

This is my favourite item from Asanoya and I eat it every 1-2 weeks. The bread, raisins, chocolate bite and custard mix together for a delicious treat, and when heated up it gives me a warm hug in my belly. There is also a chocolate bread pudding which is sweeter and more decadent, and just as delicious.

I’m not sure when the price increased and the quality of ingredients decreased. The ingredients are no longer fresh, and so not justify the price tag. Thankfully the soup still retains its umami-ness. I liked it that they offered dry hor fun which was tasty, although I was rather put off by the server who asked me if I wanted less hor fun (I did, but it’s rude to ask, isn’t it?).

This is a soft and fluffy bread with a nice, thick, chewy, slightly burnt (in a good way) crust. The matcha taste is subtle but fragrant, and I liked how the white chocolate isn’t in chunks but is instead mixed into the dough, so the taste is again subtle instead of being overly sweet.

My only gripe with this is the size. It’s too huge for breakfast, but half a slice is too small. It’s a very minor issue but it’s because of the size that I have not bought this for 3 years despite loving it and passing by the store every day.

If you want a kaisen don with thick, fresh slices of sashimi at affordable prices, this is the place to go. There’s 3 thick slices of salmon, 3 yellowtail, 2 scallop, 2 tamago and 1 shrimp, topped with a hefty amount of ikura. The queue at 1pm on a Monday was 20min long, and it can be over an hour for weekend dinner. Do note that if you order via grabfood or on the website, the menu is limited, but you can get the full menu if you call to takeaway.

This is supposedly for 3-4 persons, but it can easily feed 5-6. It comes with 3 slabs of ribs in a choice of 5 flavours. We chose hickory BBQ, Kansas sweet BBQ and garlic BBQ. All are slightly sweet, and I personally liked the hickory BBQ the most. There are sides of sausages, buttered corn, salad, fries and cornbread (which are essentially muffins with corn in them). Well worth the price and great for a family meal.

An interesting mix of hojicha, lemon syrup and tonic water. The hojicha taste is strong and thick, and the bitterness is balanced by the sweetly tangy lemon syrup. The tonic water and ice complete the drink for a refreshing pick-me-up.

One of several fish soups in this hawker centre, this was a decent sliced fish soup with a flavourful soup and fresh springy fish slices. However the garoupa slices were not thick enough to justify the price, the mee sua was hard, and the soup was slightly too peppery for my liking. Some people really like this stall though, so it may be personal preference.

I really liked this chirashi don. The chirashi was fresh and there was a good portion of both rice and chirashi. It’s good value for money.

It’s been years since I last came to The Salad Shop and wow, it has changed so much! They now offer bowls in three sizes with both cold and warm toppings and enormous portion sizes. This was the smallest size and it gave me a massive food coma afterwards. I liked the curried cauliflower and the brussel sprouts. The egg white with spinach was a little bland but very healthy. Chicken breast was not the best, but it’s ok. Skip the broccoli rice base though, it’s an extra $1 and it comes in cubes of broccoli stem only which was honestly rather difficult to chew.

I was surprised that the soup only had noodles and garnishings of vegetables in it, and no meat or other more substantial ingredients. But then I realised that the noodle soup is very tasty, and the piping hot meatballs were substantial and just slightly crisp on the outside. Overall a delicious meal.
