Come to Jalan Alor to experience dining in bustling streetside restaurants. Here, you'll find Cantonese-style dishes to share, satay (grilled meat on skewers) and even the infamous durian fruit. Look out for Wong Ah Wah — you're here for their succulent BBQ Chicken Wings (from RM3.30 a pair). This restaurant has been around for decades, churning out consistently grilled-to-perfection wings that are lightly charred yet juicy as ever. While the wings will satisfy, make it a complete meal with Roasted Pork Noodles (from RM15), sweet-spicy Kam Heong Lala (from RM10) and Salted Egg Squid (from RM20) to share. P.S. They're open till 4am, so bookmark this spot for late-night suppers!

Nestled in Jalan Alor Street for over 70 years, Restoran Wong Ah Wah is a Chinese Zi Char restaurant which has grown from a humble stall to a total of 5 stalls in present, residing side by side in a single row. Famous for their barbecued chicken wings, it’s undoubtedly a must-order dish at every table for both locals and tourists.

Grilled to perfection with a slight char on the skin, the meat was juicy and succulent, with a tantalising smoky aroma. Sedap! #whatisdigestingKL

The staple that I always order when I visit this place. A comforting plate of noodle with special soy sauce and topped with roasted pork.
For the juicy succulent flavourful chicken wing in the tourist area of Jalan Alor.
Really appreciate that they do maintain their quality over the years and wasn't affected by the growth of business.
Fried mee tai mak with squid, eggs, bean sprouts. Taste the wok hei that brings you back to old Singapore!
Wong ah Wah is most famous for their chicken wings and their restaurant is 5 units big. always very crowded.
i said to myself, it’s gonna be like chomp chomp or bedok 85 kind. but holy, it’s very VERY juicy, fragrant, lightly charred and tender. i don’t even need to pair it with chili sauce... yeah but it’s very unhealthy. best best bbq charcoal chicken wing i have ever tried!! other dishes that were good are the Kam Heong Lala and Dried chilli fried with Frog. I also tried the Salted egg Sotong and Hokkien mee, quite disappointing. gonna miss their chicken wing 😭
4 munchies: Crispy and chewy on the inside, every squid was coated evenly with the strong-flavoured salted egg sauce with curry leaf fragrance. How about a bowl of piping hot white steamed rice and a pint of ice cold beer to go with it? #Burpproved

4.5 munchies: While Wong Ah Wah is well-known for its BBQ chicken wings, the Kam Heong Lala (Golden Fragrant Clams) featured here is one of the best clam dishes I've eaten. Sweet, savoury, and spicy, I could slather that luscious kam heong sauce with curry leaves added over a bowl of steamed white rice! I also appreciate how the upper shells of the clams were removed so you only get those with clams attached. #Burpproved

I love how they made the pieces of meat chunky and finished it well over the grill, not over charring everything but leaving it perfectly cooked. The sauce has a nice spicy hint to it to leave you wanting more!
Came here just to try the chicken wings, but ended up ordering a full blown meal that was epic in its own way. The wings were perfectly grilled over charcoaled fire and you can taste the deep deep marinate that it’s been in for a long period of time with every bite. Make sure you order more than enough because it’s a long wait!
Whilst we cleaned up every strand of noodles, we all unanimously agreed that Ah Hwa at 222 is better. Still this hits a spot
What a pleasant surprise to see how much it has changed. A lot cleaner and with the road all tiled up, a pleasant stroll too. I digress. The main reason why we were there last night after our dinner at a fancy place was because of these wings. WAW or Wong Ah Wah is known for its chicken wings amongst other things. They didn't disappoint. Grilled to perfection, they were crispy on the outside and succulent and moist on the inside. Finger licking good!
First time since forever and Wong Ah Wah doesn’t disappoint. It’s true though what they say about these gloriously dark, roasty chicken wings — they tend to leave sticky (yet pleasant-tasting) residues between your teeth. Whether you like to think that’s a plus... is your opinion haha.
The price has now hiked to RM3.30 a pair and late nights still bring extremely loud parties in. Even their size of four shoplots won’t guarantee you a quiet spot. But once in a while on those offbeat nights, it all feels worth the trouble for one of KL’s best grilled chicken wing renditions.
No talk of supper in KL is complete without a mention of Wong Ah Wah. Over the years, the chicken wings-connoisseur has evolved into a premier place for tai chow after a tipple around town. It helps that the restaurant spans four spacious lots, and even an air-conditioned space within their Jalan Alor location — read: good for groups! Bring your drinking buddies for chain orders of their Roast Chicken Wings (RM6.60 a pair), marinated and charred to perfection. Their tai chow hits are also good to share, from the sweet-spicy Kam Heong La La (from RM10) to Butter Prawns (market price) and Roast Pork Noodles (from RM13). The latter leaves little to be desired, melding roasted pork belly with a barbecue-like sauce and gleaming egg noodles.

A name synonymous to Jalan Alor, the over 70-year-old Wong Ah Wah has seen the test of time. Hit up this four-lot restaurant (with an air-conditioned section for big groups) after a merry drinking session with friends. Their main attraction, the Barbecued Chicken Wings (RM3.20 per pair), always arrive glistening and lightly charred to please. Order this goodie in ample amounts and prepare to get your hands dirty, as you also dig into spicy Kam Heong Lala that's priced at a super affordable RM10! While it may be tempting to slather that luscious kam heong sauce over a bed of rice, don't fill up on carbs as more of those delicious wings await.

Restoran Wong Ah Wah, situated a stone-throw away from our AirBnb, is one of KL famous Zi Char store that you can't miss.
Lured there by the famed BBQ Chicken Wings that priced at myr3.20 per piece (min order 2 pieces), we are no exception. Special marinated sauce (including honey for sweetness) coats the chicken wings as they smoked it prior to barbecuing. Results in smokey, char taste wings that retain the tenderness.
A simple dish to offset the richness of the rest, fab in its own way (RM13)
Unique sambal (different from the sambal kang kong's) + curry leaves, even my lala hating mum had quite a number of pieces, THAT good! (RM15)
