The Corner Chef at Compass One is one of the very few cafes you can find around Sengkang (or am I wrong? Let me know if the comments if you know of other worthy cafes around the area! 😂) and it has a lunch promo that entitles you to 40% off salads, pastas and mains, and it's tough to resist such good promotions. 🤤
The western rendition of the carbonara pasta is something that many would typically order at a restaurant or cafe possibly because it's a very "tried and tasted" dish that many enjoy. That said, all it takes is for the cream sauce to ruin the dish just by being too thick (or diluted) or too rich that it becomes so sickening to finish.
The Carbonara with Egg Yolk and Crispy Bacon ($12++) presents itself pretty well, is definitely not too rich and is quite enjoyable. The bacon is really crisp while the onsen egg scores with a perfect lava flow when you break into the yolk. It is not the best but certainly satisfies, even more so during weekday lunches. 😁
