The Skewer Bar is behind some creative dishes on their menu at super worth it prices. This set B ft. unagi, chicken karaage, shiitake mushroom, onsen egg and two chicken yakitori is so well executed and full of umami (~$10). Give their stuffed taupok with cheese a try too!
Been wanting to support The Skewers Bar, and it's always booked out. Support them by checking out their online ordering form (check their ig handle: theskewerbar)
The weekends have been so enjoyable as of late #1, with time to roam Geylang on a Saturday evening to hunt for food (not advisable to do alone as a female). The Skewer Bar was my take out choice for my birthday this year aka when our nation went into circuit breaker mode, so to be able to dine in at the restaurant-bar this time round was something to be thankful about. The ability to plow through a menu, discover new items in successful rounds of orders- choosing to add on and having the liberty to order again was something we did not appreciate before.
TSB delivered just like they did as a takeout option- some of the items I’d return for was this piping hot grilled eggplant with kick ass chilli; tender grilled squid and the shishamo - oh that glorious beads of egg roe within and a crisp exterior.
Four types of eggs = four types of cholestrol? This is absolutely eggy. A good table snack to have! Sharing a chawanmushi is always interesting. Everyone has to use that same teaspoon.
Came for the skewers...stayed for the Tau Pok. Look at how they plated that tau pok!? Sauce on the side for real. Work of art. Stuffed tau pok with mozzarella. Fusion food wor.
The Skewer Bar is always crowded on weekends! Great place to enjoy beer and kushiyaki without breaking the bank! You can literally just go crazy on their $1.50/$1.60 chicken/pork teriyaki skewers. With so much meat on the menu we need our vege-compensation and this huge KIO(茄子🍆) is awesome. It’s charred, spicy and garlicky. Definitely something to re-order every time you go back.
My first taste of the lychee pork belly skewer and I was hooked. Had to be one of my favourites there. The kidney and heart skewers were also well marinated. Even those didn’t typically eat it liked it. Eggplant was good but too spicy for my friends, so those intolerant to spice beware. Chawanmushi was also pretty good!
Honestly didn’t come across many qualms about this place. Everything on the menu was worth ordering. Wish they had more variety though!
We got all types of skewers and they were wonderfully tender and full of smoky flavour. The chicken gizzards, chicken liver and chicken heart stood out for me, which is surprising because I don’t eat innards often or by choice.
But somehow these innards did not have that off-putting smell that usually permeates your nostrils before you even take a bite.
Everything was good except the eggplant and chawanmushi. The chilli with the eggplant was not lacked depth in flavour while the chawanmushi was just tooooo eggy for my liking with 4 types of egg.
Conclusion: Stick to the skewers at the skewers bar
I was bent on living “austerely” when the stringent circuit breaker measures were announced. A good month of self reflection and awareness of what a “charmed” life we had and may have taken for granted. But a few days into the CB mode and I realise lessons and reflections could still be done without forsaking good meals.
This particular dinner was that example of a good meal - Japanese skewers generously seasoned with salt pepper and sauce typical of Kushiyaki skewers.
I especially liked the well handled chicken heart and gizzard - excellent companion to a chilled glass of beer. But there are other great skewers like the meat balls which has well-meaning bites of ginger and other vegetables, and the other standard meat skewers of lamb chicken and pork.
Note that either Skewer Set A/B comes with a bigger slab of unagi (as pictured), on a bed of Japanese rice which is best eaten with the onsen egg.
All these were part of the special takeaway/ delivery menu during this COVID period. The skewer bar provides free delivery for orders above $40/ $5 delivery with a min order of $30.
Best of both worlds with one of Singapore's local favourites packed into a quick snack. The onigiri was savoury, sweet and spicy all in one, and well stuffed with fillings. Quite a fun alternative to eating a plate of it.
The pasta is full of savoury richness from the pork lard and hae bi hiam. Although this is super addictive, I would recommend sharing so that you can try the skewers here.
This modern Japanese skewer joint features yakitori classics like grilled chicken heart / liver / gizzard / wings etc but is also popular for its innovative items with local elements such as the four ton chawanmushi, nasi lemak onigiri, bacon and lychee skewers, and hae bi hiam pasta.
Run by a group of friends, this fun-loving bar has perfected the formula for a good night out. Skewers and beers in an intimate space that's still roomy enough to fit groups. Star dishes include the spicy Eggplant with TSB Signature Chilli ($5) and the protein-loaded Four Ton Chawanmushi ($4.50), which is a delectable triple eggs combo — century, salted and quail. Also worth ordering is their Whole Seabass ($22), fresh catch grilled then slathered in chilli paste & lemongrass for a zesty finish!

Simple, yummy Yakitori at a Kopitiam.
They've almost everything Yakitori should have EXCEPT beef 😱
Price was reasonable.
Tofu cucumber salad was refreshing.
4 eggs chawanmushi was 👍
Midjoints, chicken balls, liver, hearts, shisamo, bacon wrapped tomato and mushrooms, etc.
🐟Grilled seabass with the chilli paste & lemongrass was 😋
Grilled oysters were fresh but too tiny for $4
Squid was nicely grilled.
Eggplant🍆was nicely grilled. Chilli paste Topping was abit spicy. Abit more salt or miso will be good.

This was sooo good, chilli was too spicy for me but I have a low tolerance

[Geylang] A relatively new addition to Geylang's vibrant food scene, @theskewerbar serves up affordable and succulent grilled meats that are perfect with cold beers. The teriyaki pork and chicken skewers ($1.40) were tender and flavourful, while the grilled squid ($6.50) was juicy and seasoned simply with sea salt and lemon. Big fan of the grilled eggplant ($4.50) with the to-die-for chilli sauce. They open till late so it's a great place for late night bites. Reservations recommended. #theskewerbar #singaporefood #sgfood #burpple

who would have thought about the coming together of lychee and bacon. similar to the concept of honey bacon, this uses lychee juice to sweeten grilled bacon and the lychee fruit adds texture to it. 😍
This time w family and sis' bf 😁. All this for $70! The stingray had a diff kind of spicy chilli! The eggplant wasn't to my liking. Loved the chicken, meatballs, squid and bacon wrapped enoki/quail eggs as usual :) bbq pineapple was interesting. #burpple
😂
Food on sticks never get out of style & the skewers from #TheSkewerBar was a great start to this mini-food marathon! Personal favourites have to be their Bacon Wrapped Quail Egg & Homemade Chicken Meatballs! Overheard that they make their Yakitori sauce from scratch & I commend them for their efforts to make everything perfect.
Had to wait slightly more than 30 minutes for the food upon order but we were really delighted to get everything served together in the end, real worth the wait! Wouldn't mind returning again to try their heavier items like Grilled Stingray, Seabass, & Squid! Kind of enjoyed their secret indoor seating from the backdoor too 😄
P.S. So upset that I can't be as active with posting nowadays because I have no more unlimited data 😪
With skewers starting at $1.20 per stick, it's great fun for big groups because of the excitement of trying different food items. Came at 630pm on a weekday and there was no queue, and despite ordering a ton + beer, each person cost around $20-$25!

Skewers ranged from $1.20 to $2.30. Very affordable price and quality good. Who knows that a coffee shop had such good skewer stall???
.
|
I was there at 620pm and the place was packed. Because of some rental issue, the skewers can only be served in their rental space and not in the coffee shop. .
|
I would recommend their wings and in house made meat balls. The skin of the wing was crisp and dusted with their special blend of spices. Their meat balls had a light char on the surface and moist in the inside. Very good with their beer. .

If you are late, just order takeaway. Not worth waiting for seats. .
