Gindara Miso Nabe

Chicken Katsu Don

Kaki Furai Teishoku
fried oyster with tartar sauce, served with rice set (rice, miso soup & pickles)
This was pretty good. The plain pudding had a good texture, and the caramel is less caramelised than most, which means it's sweeter and there's a different flavour.
Worth a try if you're already here for some reason
Had high expectations. Never had anything like I had in Japan, and at this price point, I was really hoping this place would recreate that experience. But no
The flesh was flaky, there's hardly any sweetness tho, and there's this slight funk on top of the savouriness from the miso. But I'll be honest, I feel like their miso is there to cover up the fish's taste. It's marinated for 24hrs, not the most fresh in the first place. Plus there's hardly any sweetness, and it's true that the miso's funk melds well with any possible lack of freshness
Plus, skin wasn't crispy
Fail, esp for 50bucks. And the place wasn't packed at all when I went at 6pm, but they're super anal about timing and claims that they're fully booked or wtv. I can't imagine why this place is packed
There's some caramelisation at the exterior, that's rare, and there's some bite from flour in the mixture I believe. It's not v sweet
It's alright I think. But it's damn hot, and that's very very annoying. Temperature really matters!
I didn’t want the meal to end so I also got the SUJU Custard Pudding ($8). The thick bittersweet caramel with its pleasant burnt aroma went superbly with the firm, rich texture of the chilled pudding. The deep egg custard flavour with its sweet hint of vanilla was pretty sublime as well.
My latest payday splurge meal brought me right back to Japan! With their many lunch set options, SUJU Restaurant’s Gindara Misozuke Yaki Teishoku ($48) came highly recommended, and rightly so as the delicate slab of black cod was grilled perfectly. Moist, succulent, and flakey, the oiliness of the fish was so so buttery good. A little heavy on the flavour, the crunchy pickled radish on the side really helped counter that. Oh and let’s not forget the miso marinate which gave the protein a great, comforting savouriness. However, not completely free of bones, do be careful when biting into the fish. And to warm up your belly, upgrade the lunch set miso soup to their Tonjiru for an additional $5. Chockful of ingredients, the soup was really rich - filled with pork belly slices, chunks of konnyaku, and various root vegetables.
Buta Don

玉子焼き $12 | 明太子 $8 | ごはん $6
Iberico Pork Misozuke Yaki (Sesame Pepper), Tamago Yaki, Mentaiko, Gohan
Torimomo Kurozu Itame Teishoku
sauté deep fried chicken and vegetables in suju black vinegar
Japanese style comfort food. The grilled fish and croquettes go well with the white rice. I didn’t find the white rice fantastic though...
Find comfort Japanese food right here! The grilled salmon was delicious, and the rice was pearl-y (is this even a word?) and good. Food is simple yet executed excellently - perfect for a no-frills meal to fill your tummies. Nothing else needs to be said I think.
You pay for the quality of the food and I guess the location is quite central as well. Service was great.
If you’re looking for a standard Japanese restaurant with good quality food, you can consider this classic restaurant!
Miso sauce was sooo good - I need more! 😫 Just want to slather it on my fish and rice. Rice and miso soup as usual were fantastic. The bones were not so ideal for an impatient eater like me though. The ambience is better at the Jewel outlet.
Still prefer their fried chicken with black vinegar.
The Japanese scrambled eggs are so fluffy soft and light, infusing the starchy white rice with eggy sweet flavour.
.
The tender chunks of chicken are seasoned with light soy sauce and mirin rice wine, resulting in a savoury salty sweet flavour.
.
Finished with dashi (bonito & seaweed) stock. However, the delicious flavours don't sufficiently reach throughout the bowl, resulting in a decently tasty dish that shows potential for more.
.
Accompanied by a bowl of rich miso soup, and sharp sour pickles for contrast on the palate.
