The Raspberry Lemon Cake (S$6.90) was a limited-time offer in conjunction with the cherry blossom season. I liked the lemon zest that was sprinkled on the top of the cake, giving it that citric flavour with a bit of texture to every bite.
However, I realised from previous visits and this one that the cakes at Starbucks were starting to have sponge cake layers that were on the dry and hard side. I thought that the cake could have given a better experience if the sponge layers were more fluffy and light.
Another win in my book from Starbucks! I love chocolate and bananas, and Starbucks has combined both of these effortlessly in this decadent dessert.
There’s a few layers to this dessert - chocolate sponge, banana mousse, chocolate mousse, chocolate ganache, and even some sliced bananas. They’re all impeccably done as the cake is moist and easy to cut through with a fork. I recommend eating all the layers together as the dark chocolate balances the sweetness from the mousse cream, and you can better appreciate the complementary banana and chocolate combination. We shared this among three people so we didn’t feel jelak, but if you’re not a big fan of cream or mousse textures, considering sharing rather than getting a whole slice to yourself, however tempting that might be!
Consistently good at this outlet, where the matcha to milk to espresso ratio is quite even and the baristas are all quite friendly and happy to serve. I’ll always recommend this drink for those who love matcha and coffee, or want a pretty drink to Instagram.
Although I mentioned in a previous review that I enjoy CBTL coffee more than Starbucks, I keep returning to Starbucks because of the service. It really seems to me that 95% of the time when I enter Starbucks I’m treated to chirpy, warm, friendly and patient baristas who make me feel welcome. And this isn’t just limited to local Starbucks outlets, but also extends to outlets overseas. I certainly can’t say the same for other coffee chains or more artisanal roasters.
I needed something stronger rather than something sugary today so I opted for the cold brew with coconut milk. Was served by a new barista today who was very sweet but still inexperienced with making drinks as the matcha latte and cascara macchiato in the same order came looking pretty different on top - especially the cascara macchiato with disappointing caramel drizzled latte art. I’m pretty sure she’ll improve with time though. Another thing that struck me today was that I actually had to request for mugs for the hot drinks after stating we were having the drinks here. It’s not a deal breaker of course, but most times I wish these coffee houses would be more eco-friendly and also actively encourage their customers to be. Unfortunately i didn’t bring my own tumbler today as I usually order hot drinks so I ended up with a plastic cup - sorry Mother Earth 🌏 😭
The cold brew at Starbucks is not bad, strong enough to perk me up a little in the afternoon and stave off the zzzs. I love the option of coconut milk which is super aromatic and undercuts some of the natural bitterness of the cold brew since I’m not used to drinking black coffee. This is also a great low calorie swap as compared to flavoured coffees, so it’s definitely making its way into my regular rotation at Starbucks. ✌🏻

Sakura Rose Mocha Frap (G) - $8.80
·
The new Sakura Rose Mocha Frappuccino is a blend of rose, chocolate, milk and ice that's topped with mocha sauce and pretty pink Sakura white chocolate flowers. Looks pretty but somehow the flavours turned out closer to Hojicha with lingering rose flavour at the back. Not for those looking for sugar rush
