Kueh Pie Tee ($4.90 for four)

Whenever we see this on the menu, the Peranakan in us shouts YES, PLEASE! Unfortunately, more than not, they fail. Not this time. The kueh pie tee at Onya Sayang is impeccable.

From the crispy pastry tart to the moist and tasty shredded Chinese turnip and carrots, each ingredient and component is carefully thought through.

The crisp pastry shell is imported from a small traditional shophouse in Penang, as is its amazing chili—we could go on forever on that.

Thinly shredded Chinese turnip, carrots and prawns are piled high into the crunchy pastry shell, topped with grated peanut, cilantro and a dab of chili to create a mouthwatering experience. We're already craving for more! #wewantsugar #burpple

This pork stew is a soul food redolent with flavours of taucheo (salted soya bean paste), soy sauce, gula melaka (palm sugar), shallots and garlic. Different recipes use different cuts but what is popular is a mix of lean pork with fatty pork. At O’nya Sayang at Paya Lebar Square, an affordable version uses the decadent pork belly, and potato chunks are added to the dish. This can be had via rice or noodle sets priced from $8.90 to $13.90. The chef at O’nya learnt his skills from his mother, who ran Dulakala Peranakan restaurant in the 1990s, so you can be confident his recipe is authentic. -- from HGW.com

Interesting twist to a classic. Keluak fried with rice gives this dish an unique and fragrant flavour. $14.90

The coconut ice cream is imported from thailand while the gula melaka is from Indonesia. With such dedication, no wonder every spoonful is like a piece of heaven to me.
