Treated myself to some serious comfort food at my favourite old-school Western food stall (previously situated in Tanglin Halt Food Centre) and wow, their crispy chicken cutlet is literally bigger than my face! 😋

Golden, crunchy crust, tender inside and paired in that signature tangy-savoury-sweet sauce I can’t get enough of. It’s pure happiness on a plate. 💖

The chicken cutlet at "No. 1 Western" is served with their signature sauce—a sweet and thick concoction that truly sets it apart. The cutlet itself was perfectly crispy on the outside, while the meat inside remained juicy and tender, making every bite a delight.

What really stood out, though, was the special sauce. It reminded me of the sauce from a Western food stall at Clementi Hawker Centre that has shuttered about a decade ago—a nostalgic flavor that brought back fond memories. This unique sauce is exceptional, and I haven’t come across anything quite like it at any other place. It’s truly one-of-a-kind and worth trying

Although it may not be the most tender, juicy or premium cut, we still get a decent slab of sirloin with a buttery flavour and lovely char. 🤩

This old-school Western food hawker stall serves the crispiest fried fish that comes with a thin coating of breadcrumbs and soft, moist flaky meat within.

And the underlying reason that keeps me coming back for more [over the years] is their irresistible special savoury-sweet sauce that goes so well with anything and everything! 🫶🏻

Once in a while, we love having hawker western food for it's generous portions and old-school taste👍. The Chicken Cutlet here is super huge and crispy🥩, and comes with a generous portion of crinkle-cut fries🍟. Our favourite is definitely their sauce. Unlike the usual black pepper or mushroom sauce, this tastes like a tomato based sauce 🍅. It's a bit tough to describe, but it's reminiscent of the sauce they put on hainanese pork chop, which is sweet and savoury. This has a very old-school taste that reminds us of our childhood memories😌!!

Nostalgic as my grandparents used to bring me here as a treat; though sadly I'd only rediscovered it a few years back. The stall has been around for over 50 years, and is slated to close in July 2022.

Their secret sauce is the star, a tomato and barbecue sauce base that is rich with piquant sweet savoury flavour, deliciously addictive.

The medium thick slab of boneless chicken is perfectly grilled, tender with a succulent chew and bold meaty smoky sweet savoury salty flavour.

Sides of juicy cucumbers and tomatoes with vegetal sweet flavour, soft baked beans with sweet savoury notes, fluffy crisp English crinkle chips with savoury salty flavour, complete this.
